Charlie didn't get it. Sark didn't get it. And if you don't get it, you're fucked.

Get your mind right... time is getting short.

Hook'em

We're not going to pretend Year 1 Charlie and Year 1 Sark went into those fights with a full "Texas" (capital T) arsenal. God Bless all the Texas boys that have suited up in the Burnt Orange over the past 14 years but neither of those teams were even above .500 at the end of the season. And it wasn't because Arkansas kicked our ass so bad that we limped through the rest of the season. Saying Charlie didn't "get it" against Arkansas is probably not on a single person's list as to why he is no longer the coach at UT. There are plenty of things he didn't get. Sark understands what it is to be Texas now, and we're not going into Fayetteville with a 5-7 team to take on a 9-3 Arkansas team like 2021 either. These days ain't those days. I plan to nut up in the visitor's section (comfortably around other Texas fans) like I fully expect this team to. There's appropriate fear, and there's whatever this shit is. I'm not taking 6-6 and 5-7 confidence into this Saturday, you can have that.

Having been to the 2004 game in Fayetteville, I highly recommend making the trip if you can. To me, away games always feel like Texas versus the world, which makes for a great time. That experience is greatly amplified at Arkansas because they hate us so much. But it's a beautiful setting, and their stadium is nice. A win there and their redneck trash leaving dejected make for a perfect fall afternoon.

As crazy as it sounds, spending the night in Oklahoma is probably not a bad idea.

Hard disagreement. I also was at the 2004 game. We had full bottles of beer thrown at our heads on the way into the stadium and narrowly avoided multiple physical fights with hillbillies who can’t read. Fuck those people and fuck Fayettenam

This.  100%.  If you're on the fence about going, go.  Road games are a blast. Doe's Eat Place on Dickson is a great casual place to get a steak.  Hit JJ's on Friday night and postgame.  Don't start no shit, won't be no shit.  LFG!

Dilly Dilly!  This team is much closer to the 2008 team that donkey kicked Arkansas than the 2014 or 2021 teams.  For those going into this game with fear and trepidation, stop being pussies.

I will confess that outside the stadium was different than inside. We went to the Hornfans tailgate, which was fun, but lots of Arkie fans drove past and talked shit. Then we went with a UT alum buddy to his wealthy Arkie in-laws' tailgate party. We were treated well there.

Sat with our players' families at the game, and that was all great. Leaving the stadium, my buddy and I accompanied VY's mom and a few others to make them feel safe, as the walk back to parking was a little trek in the dark, probably 45 minutes or an hour after the game was over. I don't recall anyone having physical confrontations, but Arkansas fans did have a lot to say.

What website had that price? It’s 3 1/2 hours for me.

They are peanuts on Seat Geek and will only go down im sure. You can sit on the Arky side 30 YL right now for $100. Can sit up top on the rail for under $80. We have a good chance to show up strong.

In 1969, my brother couldn’t find a gas station that would let him fill up his VW Bug so he could leave that Deliverance state.
In the late 1970s when his daughter was in the LH Band, their buses were pelted with rocks & bottles as they were leaving town after the Texas victory.
Those goobers can make the bucknuts look like Emily Post.

with an 11am kick, go up friday and stay at the cherokee casino hotel in roland on i40 just before the state line and you'll have a 45-minute drive to the stadium saturday morning up i540 which has lots of cops but long sightlines so it can be driven at 90 if you ride shotgun on locals

after the game you can make mcalester by dark and finish the drive sunday or push through saturday night to dallas by 10pm with a mcalester dinner stop

All true. We stayed in Muskogee because we were visiting friends.

Staying in Arkansas Friday night is probably fine. Saturday night wouldn't be the best idea.

I think that College Station this year is going to be shitty well beyond that. They can't help themselves they are going to be dicks beyond just smack talk.

I agree. They're irrational.

As I have posted here many times, a Texas student damn near got choked to death in the stands front of me in 2005, by a "normal" Aggie. I've never seen anything like it.

Had to be after the 1969 team beat Arky in Fayettenam.

Mrs. Brat & I were probablythe only sober ones in that mob of 10,000 drunks thatswarmed all over old Mueller Airport to the bewilderment of the travelers in the waiting room.
Drunks filled the flight concourse and were on its roof, then swarmed out on the parking apron to surround the team plane when it arrived.
A few drunks supposedly had to be chased off the runway so the plane could land.
It was an epic evening to say the least.

FWIW, Dad said that particular picture at Mueller Airport was the time after #2 Texas beat #1 Mobilehoma 28-7 for Texas to become #1 in '63.

He added that the crowds meeting the team at the airport after huge wins happened some other times, too.

They are not rivals with aggy. Their whole series in Arlington was an attempt to change that. They ARE our rivals.

For people of a certain age, this is true.

The players today and fans/alums of Texas post 2005 or so probably don’t think of them like that because they didn’t grow up being in the same conference as Arkansas or experienced Texas/Arkansas in the SWC. I think today’s students, players, and younger fans think of Arkansas about the same as they think of Missouri or Mississippi.

As I posted above, that is true of Texas. It is NOT true of Arkansas. They are bred to care. It's the whole point of this line of discussion.

That's where the disconnect is. It's what Sarkisian failed to grasp. Also bit Mack Brown's stupid ass in 2000 and in 2003. But Mack has never understood rivalry games. He's a fucktard.

I bet younger generations in Arkansas feels the same way about Texas as the Texas younger generations feel about Arkansas.

Maybe. Or maybe you missed them beating the shit out of us in 2021. To them, it is "borderline erotic."

Their hatred for Texas is something they constantly talk about. Hopefully our coaches and players don't continue to be as dismissive of it as many of you seem to be.

Yes, half of my family are pigs.  They DEFINITELY hate our guts.  I expect some loony reactions from them this week.  Been quiet so far.

Sark has made it clear on numerous occasions he knows what it means to their fan base.

Nope, my best friends uncle has a nephew that is at pig and they don't care about Texas but will go to the game just because there is nothing better to do.

Aren't most Arkansas students just Texans who were too dumb to get into UT?

Arkansas would be a cool little state if not for Texas sucking up all their oxygen, and making the rest of the country think they're West Virginia with less teeth and more deformities. This makes stomping them also borderline erotic, because it's true.

Thinking that Arkansas doesn't hate us anymore just because our younger fans stopped caring about the rivalry is forgetting an important facet of the rivalry - people from Arkansas (the state) hate Texas (the state). The University of Texas represents the state, and playing (or beating) us in football gives everyone in Arkansas a chance to feel better than Texas. When was the last time anyone here ever thought about Arkansas? Traveled to Arkansas other than to pass through? Arkansas is a small, unimportant state that happens to be next to one of the largest and most important states in the Union. They hate us and we don't think about them at all.

And before someone says something dumb like "well they don't hate A&M" - yeah no shit, it's A&M. They don't represent the state of Texas. At most, they represent a particular strain of East Texas weirdo who probably has more in common with Arkansas than they do with the rest of Texas.

Everyone at Arkansas, young and old, cares about this game way more than we do because it runs deeper than football. It's social, cultural, and political.

This is correct .. for those of us who were around in the SWC days - every sport against Arkansas was a blood feud.. it didn't matter the sport.. Just thinking about Strollin' Nolan gives me rage. Hell.. Jerry Jones played for them.. that's enough to elevate them above aggy for me -- For us from the SWC days it goes - OU --> Arkansas --> aggy in line of hatred.

They actually do indeed hate A&M a lot as well.  In fact they hate A&M almost as much as us.

That's probably because they're the one team aggy has owned since they joined the conference.
