PSA: if you still have a Twitter/X account on Nov 15 their new TOS go into effect. 5 days to opt out and delete all, if you want.

Delete your accounts on X prior to the November 15th, that's when the new terms of service go into effect, so they will have free license to feed your tweets to their A.I. plus a global copyright on anything you've ever posted.

To be clear, opting out means deleting all of your previous tweets and not posting there again. There's no opting out in the sense that you can 'select' it in the settings. If you don't delete your account, I don't know if they retain the right to use your past writings, or even more importantly, if they think they would still have that right.

Didn’t Facebook, instagram, ect do this a long time ago or are all post about it for the last couple years bs?   I mean when you talk to someone about buying something or google it, the next adds you see anywhere are about said thing already.  AI gives two shit about anything I’ve ever posted anywhere, I’m not famous nor do I have crazy things out there.

I'm good thanks to the UCC and the Rome Statute. Unless Elon wants to be taken to the ICC, in which case he better know a good lawyer.

I am unaware of any effect the Universal Copyright Convention would have on this. and it certainly would not provide jurisdiction to the ICC for enforcement.

So pretty much like all social media terms and conditions. Minus the Tik Tok giving stuff to China.

Yeah, that seems pretty accurate.  Social media is for suckers, get the fuck off it.

Think about it, Zuck formed it so hot chicks would post themselves and guys could perv on them and talk shit.  Nothing's really changed.  It's all attention whores, people perving on them in various ways, and shit talking.

Never had one. Never signed up to any social media. I have a theory people who never use social media, especially anything with algorithms feeding content, are about the only people still able to perceive reality.

Everyone else is living in a digital nightmare where trans are attacking girls in bathrooms and migrants are flooding the border like zombies looking for blood.

Social media algorithms should have been outlawed a decade ago when it was apparent how dangerous they are.

Y'all must have some national secret shit going on.  If you use twitter for light convos and smart-ass remarks, I don't see the point in rushing to delete anything.

It has nothing to do with secrets. Even if your guy won, stop supporting an asshole that made twitters bot problem much worse, that did all he could to buy an election, and maybe reduce the content they have to train their AI. If you enjoy your light interactions with bots, carry on.

I don't really have a problem with it personally, but I would think a lot of journalists and content creators would have a big issue with those kinds of terms.

Which is why they are bailing.  They aren't creating content for Leon to train his AI on it and pump out his own content based on their content.

Same. It will probably be a full on echo chamber within a year. We all knew it was bad for our mental health and the election was the excuse to finally cut the cord.

It's only been 5 days but I already feel much better. Our brains weren't meant to be pelted with so much information and constant bullshit.

I won't "check out", but I'm also not gonna worry about this shit 24 hours a day anymore.

I only ever signed up for Facebook, as a tool to post pics of my family for others to see mostly.  I quit actively using it a couple of years ago as it was mostly political shit that others chose to post. I didn’t deactivate and occasionally if I get an email notification that someone posted an image, I’ll click to see what the image is. When I do that, sometimes I scroll down. Maybe it’s because I haven’t interacted on the app much in years, but I mostly get “suggested content” or whatever instead of stuff from the friends list.  It’s grotesque.  Perhaps there’s a setting I could change to stop this, but again I don’t really engage in that community but for looking at a picture a couple times a month at most.

If you posted a bunch of pictures on facebook or insta, or someone else posted of you and tagged you, that's all in Meta's AI database. Someone already found a way to have the facebook "smart glasses" identify the people they were seeing and dox them. https://www.theverge.com/2024/10/2/24260262/ray-ban-meta-smart-glasses-doxxing-privacy

I imagine similar bad shit will happen with twitter's AI, or make the consequences of being doxed by Meta even worse for some people. I deleted fbook years ago -- about the time theye bought Insta -- and deleted my twitter account at least 5 years ago.

CDC posts plenty of good stuff about the University and the sports teams.  Levi Cowan very seldom ever updates the regular tropical tidbits site, but he is certainly active on X.  Shaggy/Surly All Universe Penis Drawing Extraordinaire Thujone is also active there.  If you're into to watching/being informed on different world economies Steve Hanke is good.  With all that being said, the only person I've replied back to is CDC on our baseball team.  I probably hit him up 2X week during last year's season.   So, if in the future someone wants to make a deal about my wanting/suggesting that David P get the axe I'll deal with it.  That is about the entire catalog of my social media presence, no FB, no Insta, no TikTok, etc.

I dunno know, man.   I’m pretty sure that Trump and his new Czar of Who to Tax Audit, Jail and/or Fuck With -  being the very well credentialed Mike Flynn - will have Elmo’s incels examine my Twitter postings and determine that I’ve committed a little bit of light treason against Trump… and therefore deserve some jailing or shooting or such.

Some people, probably not you, are going to be kinda happy about that narrow definition of treason I keep reminding people of.

I just sent a letter to Elmo that I'm not the name that he is referring to. I am the living man.  I also advised that I am free to travel about the Internet with no license.  And that I’m not a federal citizen, I am a state citizen.  I added my thumbprint in blood. 🩸

I am pretty sure that I am untouchable in my freehold now.

If you're unable to use the app to delete your old tweets and there's too many to do it manually, you mean? I believe there's an option to deactivate your account. Do that and don't log back in. If you log back in after the 15th they should/probably will make you agree to the new TOS.

I haven't tried anything yet - I thought someone posted that we can't delete anything except one at a time, which seems like a time-consuming nuisance.

If you go to this app https://github.com/lucahammer/tweetXer scroll down there's a youtube tutorial on how to use it for a mass deletion

When finding all my history and writing nerds and Ukraine OSINT people are moving over to Bluesky.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Jewish GIF

It's not quite the Shaggy -> Surly exodus, but it's happening.

I am seriously loving the feeds function.  I had been using the Starter Pack stuff, but the feeds was what I needed to look into.

Adam Mosseri and Zuckerberg really fucked up with Threads. They had the time and the motivation.  A shitload of us really gave them a chance, but they had to be stubborn on things like forcing us to use another app for DMs (Instagram) and not rolling out certain features that allowed newbies to Bluesky to hit the ground running.
