So does he slide back into Congress next term? He's not a member of this Congress any longer so can they do the mental gymnastics necessary to let him back but not have the report come out? Or does he bide his team and run for Florida governor like it's been rumored?

Desantis could give him Rubio’s senate seat

I don't get all the stories and outage regrading picks that have been accused of sexual assault. Two and a half weeks ago the majority of Americans picked someone who was actually found civilly liable of sexual assault to be President. If we're gonna have issues with that kind of thing, why didn't we have it before the election. We are a country of fucking idiots.

y'all take note. this is ideal and peak surly posting right here. create a premise, pose a question, and answer it - all in the same post. love it

The airlines are really happy at finally being done with Sec’y Buttigieg. Now they can go back to being shitty to customers.

Another example of how dumb the electorate is. The rules passed by Pete’s DOT are wildly popular with consumers and address some of the biggest pain points in air travel that people have complained about. The CEOs know that the electorate is so dumb that they can openly crow about rolling back these consumer protections and go back to the good ole days of screwing customers and providing shareholder value.

No it's not.  We need all of these unqualified motherfuckers in there.  There has to be massive carnage to overcome the stupidity of the electorate.

My true hope is that it's Rudy.  Rudy!  Rudy!  Rudy!

That might be the most surprising thing that's happened this election cycle...so far

A friend sent me a screenshot of his tweet and I lol'd because I thought it was satire. Such is my level of confidence in our systems.

So Gaetz didn’t resign his position solely because of the AG role, right? He’s got to be using the AG failure as his way of peacefully avoiding getting tossed from the House, right? It’s not clear to me because the Republicans these days won’t toss anyone for anything hardly.

He was elected his next term. He can always go right back to being a congressman, and trust that an ethics complaing with a R House, Senate, and Executive just goes away.

This wasn't a very well thought out plan, apparently. It was hatched on the plane from MAL to DC for dotard's meeting with Biden last week. It caught the Trump Transition team off guard.

And this. He might be thinking well that report only pertains to the last Congress when it was generated. This is a new Congress and, therefore, the report no longer applies.

Or something. If this timeline has taught us anything, it's that bad people will escape punishment.

Johnson has said that Gaetz' resignation letter said that he's resigning from the current Congress, and will not be seated in the next.

“I hereby resign as U.S. representative of Florida’s 1st Congressional District effective immediately. And I do not intend to take the oath of office for the same office in the 119th Congress to pursue the position of attorney general in the Trump administration,” Gaetz said in the letter.

I'd go a step further and say, Gaetz is wildly hated in the House. But after Trump's re-election, I don't think the remaining Kevin McCarthy allies are going to stick their necks out to fuck with Gaetz.

That changes all the time. Shelia Jackson Lee said she wasn't running for re-election in Congress when she ran for Houston Mayor. Ted Cruiz said he believes in term limits and would only serve 2 terms in the senate.

Oh, and now that he's not going to pursue the AG position anymore, guess what, I'm back bitches.

I wish I had more faith in this outcome, but I really don't and look forward to how he tries to waffle his resignation letter into "Looking forward to getting back to work for Florida's 1st congressional district" and just showing up in January like Kramer...

This is what will happen unless Meatball Ron gives him Rubio's vacated senate seat or something like that -- but I'm not sure DeSantis even likes Gaetz. He could probably go make millions on Fox News or something like that and then jump back in the Florida gubernatorial race somewhere down the line.

Those guys all compete for the same oxygen in Florida, I would bet they're not pals.  Like how Boebert and the Neanderthal don't get long.

I dont know man. That's what I meant by McCarthy's allies not wanting to stick their necks out. They'd claim they need to vote for a new session of Congress, and Trump very well could make it a purity test of other house members.

Not loathsome enough.

Not only does the person have to be loyal to Trump, they have to be someone that pisses off everyone else.
