Elderberry extract. Prophylactic or at first sign of symptoms, or both.

Did you forget what board you are on? You say Prophylatic and you know there are a few wondering how to get her to swallow some condoms. They are just wondering if the flavored ones are better. Or Ribbed and do you add bbq sauce.

Yeah, definitely too late for Tamiflu. This has legit kicked her ass. Last time she had the flu was over 20 years ago. Yesterday, the fever and puking hit. But, that was the worst, as she got some rest last night, and can now eat some crackers and Gatorade. The plan is more rest and fluids today.
She’s sleeping in the guest bedroom, I’m taking all the Emergen-C I can.
And yes, the flu is the flu, not a cold.

For what it's worth, I now swear by lysine.  It's supposed to help suppress a virus from replicating itself, to either help with recovery if already sick, or to keep the viral loads at check if a family member is sick.  You might head to Central Market or People's and get some, taking 1,000 mg a day.

Whenever someone in my family gets sick now, or we start to feel anything like a cold or other illness come on, we start popping the lysine for a few days.

Bubonic plague was from fleas, and traveled on rats.

I know, just did not think of another transmission path. So fleas get on voles that are eaten by squirrels that live with tree rats (yes they exist).

Work with me here.

Lol. Emergen-C won’t do shit to prevent a viral infection. You need to load up on raw milk, horse paste, and copper bracelets.

Next I suppose you’re going to say that Brisket putting Oklahomans in the Big Tex wicker basket and burning them won’t bring a year of good crops.

Do your research!!!

Louisiana bars health dept. from promoting flu, COVID, mpox vaccines: Report - Ars Technica

Quote

Louisiana's health department has been barred from advertising or promoting vaccines for flu, COVID-19, and mpox, according to reporting by NPR, KFF Health News, and New Orleans Public Radio WWNO.

Their investigative report—based on interviews with multiple health department employees who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation—revealed that employees were told of the startling policy change in meetings in October and November and that the policy would be implemented quietly and not put into writing. Ars Technica has contacted the health department for comment and will update this post with any new information.

The health department provided a statement to NPR saying that it has been "reevaluating both the state's public health priorities as well as our messaging around vaccine promotion, especially for COVID-19 and influenza." The statement described the change as a move "away from one-size-fits-all paternalistic guidance" to a stance in which "immunization for any vaccine, along with practices like mask wearing and social distancing, are an individual's personal choice."

According to employees, the new policy cancelled standard fall flu vaccination events this year and affects every other aspect of the health department's work, as NPR explained: "Employees could not send out press releases, give interviews, hold vaccine events, give presentations or create social media posts encouraging the public to get the vaccines. They also could not put up signs at the department's clinics that COVID, flu or mpox vaccines were available on site."

Interesting that social media has more power over public health than physicians.

At the height of Covid I saw an adult patient with special needs. She came in with her mid 70’s mother who was her caregiver and only living relative.

As a certain type of person was wont to do, she worked Covid into the conversation, basically saying it wasn’t that bad and the vaccine was more dangerous than the infection.

By this point each of my children had a friend who had lost at one grandparent to Covid, and I had lost one of my best friends from HS and one of my wife’s best friends had lost her husband, both late 40’s and otherwise healthy.

Knowing her age, I asked her if she remembered polio. Turns out she fucking had it as a toddler!! Luckily a mild case. Showed me her calf atrophy and mild leg length discrepancy. I said don’t you think your parents would have given you that vaccine had it been available? She said of course, but that was different (??!)

Finally I told her about the people I knew who had died and the healthy general surgeon I knew who spent a month on the vent as one of the first cases in DFW, looked at her daughter and said if you die what happens to her?

She wound up getting the vaccine, but Jesus people can be thick headed

We are headed for Idiocracy.  We have people who have spent the last 40 years surrounded by modern medicine, and they’ve forgotten things like polio and mumps and measles when it comes to vaccines (and even milder things like chicken pox), even after living through a pandemic that killed a million Americans. They see some FAA-mandated running lights in the sky at night over Dumpsterville, New Jersey and automatically think aliens or Iranians or Chinese or Russians.
