I raised the question of being vaxxed as an adult for measles in another thread. Everyone said it should have happened either in grade school or would have been caught by entering college. Shit, that was so long ago I don't remember and I haven't even thought about the measles since the 80's.

Having to think about being vaccinated for childhood diseases that haven't been an issue in over 40 years was not on my bingo card.

Roll into Walgreens and get the shot.  1st shot has 93% efficacy.  Second shot gets you to 97% 28 days later.  No time like the present.

/edit to add: make an appointment online to make it as short of an experience as possible.

I was vaccinated, boosted, whatever, when my first kid was born. My wife was before she even got pregnant.

This will probably get taken down by the Bear Cub Killer, but most women wanting to have kids were told to get the MMR vaccine, so that the babies would have a little protection against rubella and measles.

Back to the dark ages we head at warp speed

Interesting.  The flu tends to really fuck up the olds.  Some of those fuckers were of the "Ivermection is my COVID vaccine" variety, but they'd still get the flu shot.

Glad an Ivy League trained lawyer makes vaccine decisions.  It'll work out just swell.

50 dead in the Congo after being sick for 48 hours, including two kids that ate a bat. Around 500 ill. No idea what the actual illness is. Great time to pull out of the WHO, etc.

But it'll be available to people who want it?

It will be available to those that the state deems necessary and vital to have it

As was noted, RFK Jr. commented that a "measles outbreak is not unusual," citing past year's cases. The measles "season" is still ongoing as is the current Texas outbreak so hard to say if the case counts will exceed earlier years:

2024: 285 cases of which 89% were unvaccinated or unknown

2023: 59 cases

2022: 121 cases

2021: 49 cases

2020: 13 cases

2019: 1,274 cases

Obviously Covid may have changed people's habits with respect to congregating and exposure and 2019 was the year that NYC and the Pacific Northwest had two very large outbreaks among vaccine opposed groups. So, RFK is downplaying the spread of disease at a very critical time with this specific outbreak. While many residents that are, say, 13 years and older are inoculated, and I will certainly hope that herd immunity will prevail, we have the very real, very opportunistic chance for the virus to have a lot of fun because Spring Break approaches. Yee Haw! Florida and Texas and all the ski resorts are going to be lit.

left off the Jr. That's an important distinction.

Making my annual checkup appointment today. Top of the agenda will be review of all vaccines. Getting my elderly folks the same.

I had my blood checked for measles antibodies.  I'm not protected.  I have an appointment at HEB to get the MMR shot.  It seems if you were born between 1968-1971, there were some "unknown" measles vaccines being distributed.  I guess I didn't get the Merck vaccine like everyone else.
