I raised the question of being vaxxed as an adult for measles in another thread. Everyone said it should have happened either in grade school or would have been caught by entering college. Shit, that was so long ago I don't remember and I haven't even thought about the measles since the 80's.

Having to think about being vaccinated for childhood diseases that haven't been an issue in over 40 years was not on my bingo card.

Roll into Walgreens and get the shot.  1st shot has 93% efficacy.  Second shot gets you to 97% 28 days later.  No time like the present.

/edit to add: make an appointment online to make it as short of an experience as possible.

I was vaccinated, boosted, whatever, when my first kid was born. My wife was before she even got pregnant.

This will probably get taken down by the Bear Cub Killer, but most women wanting to have kids were told to get the MMR vaccine, so that the babies would have a little protection against rubella and measles.

Interesting.  The flu tends to really fuck up the olds.  Some of those fuckers were of the "Ivermection is my COVID vaccine" variety, but they'd still get the flu shot.

Glad an Ivy League trained lawyer makes vaccine decisions.  It'll work out just swell.

50 dead in the Congo after being sick for 48 hours, including two kids that ate a bat. Around 500 ill. No idea what the actual illness is. Great time to pull out of the WHO, etc.

As was noted, RFK Jr. commented that a "measles outbreak is not unusual," citing past year's cases. The measles "season" is still ongoing as is the current Texas outbreak so hard to say if the case counts will exceed earlier years:

2024: 285 cases of which 89% were unvaccinated or unknown

2023: 59 cases

2022: 121 cases

2021: 49 cases

2020: 13 cases

2019: 1,274 cases

Obviously Covid may have changed people's habits with respect to congregating and exposure and 2019 was the year that NYC and the Pacific Northwest had two very large outbreaks among vaccine opposed groups. So, RFK is downplaying the spread of disease at a very critical time with this specific outbreak. While many residents that are, say, 13 years and older are inoculated, and I will certainly hope that herd immunity will prevail, we have the very real, very opportunistic chance for the virus to have a lot of fun because Spring Break approaches. Yee Haw! Florida and Texas and all the ski resorts are going to be lit.

Making my annual checkup appointment today. Top of the agenda will be review of all vaccines. Getting my elderly folks the same.

I had my blood checked for measles antibodies.  I'm not protected.  I have an appointment at HEB to get the MMR shot.  It seems if you were born between 1968-1971, there were some "unknown" measles vaccines being distributed.  I guess I didn't get the Merck vaccine like everyone else.

What do you think the chances are that this admin allows that to reach the public?

You'll get a cancer treatment plan of eating 9 almonds, a juice cleanse, and crystals, and like it.

Remember, this is the unambiguous statement of the fucking HEAD of HHS: “there’s no vaccine that is safe and effective.”

Can any walk-in clinic do that?

I believe they will have to send it off to get tested.  I just happen to be at my annual physical this week and my doc recommended getting tested for the antibodies.  His clinic had to send by blood to a place to perform the test.

Congo telling Lubbock hold my beer. Meanwhile one of our medical experts will say these numbers of deaths are nothing to worry about.

KAMPALA, Uganda—A fast-spreading mystery illness linked to bats has killed scores of people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with nearly half dying within 48 hours of showing symptoms, the World Health Organization said Thursday.

The disease, which causes uncontrolled bleeding, vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms of hemorrhagic fever, had infected 1,096 people and killed 60 as of Feb. 23, the WHO said.

The disease was discovered in three children in the village of Boloko, in remote Équateur Province, last month. The children vomited blood, suffered nose bleeds and died within two days.

A few weeks later, a second and larger outbreak was recorded 100 miles away in the village of Bomate, where hundreds of people are ill. Some 141 fell sick with the illness in a single week, the WHO said.

“This could be a new virus that has never been discovered,” said Matteo Bassetti, professor of infectious diseases at Italy’s University of Genoa.

Well, thank GOD that we have a well-functioning and intelligent infectious disease interdiction, prevention, and treatment apparatus in play -- so we have nothing to worry about.

Pass. I'll get superior natural immunity by catching cancer.

Just read this. So it’s the idea of a PCV (personalized cancer vaccine) which they make from resecting the cancer cells from a cancer patient and identifying the specific antigens to target, to make the drug, unique to each person, that would vaccinate them from a recurrence of that specific cancer.

so 1) you have to get the cancer before they can make the vaccine for it 2) its unique to each person and each cancer they may develop, so there just might be some cost issues.

as a proof of concept, fine, interesting results.

Question for the Surly lawyers: can the parents of that child who died of the measles in North Texas be charged with anything? Child endangerment? Manslaughter?  After all, they had been told that there is a vaccine that is virtually 100% effective.

To a layman like me, it's like leaving a gun out with bullets in it when you've been told that leaving a gun out with bullets in it can result in the death of your child.

The answer is: doesn’t matter; got Abbott pardon.

No. And you don’t want any government to have that kind of power. Especially this one.

Let me make it super clear for you as to how things are in Texas:

1) Parents, after informed conversations with a medical professional and acting on the advice of that medical professional, provide gender-affirming care to their child:

right-to-jail-1.gif?auto=compress&fm=gif

2) Parents, acting on the advice/posts of "patriotmagaunvaxxedandunafraid29" choose not to vaccinate their child, resulting in the child's DEATH?

Any questions?

SIAP: Lubbock health officials are confirming Walmart and Target as two measles exposure sites in that city.

With symptoms taking a while to develop, I'm crossing fingers that the San Antonio exposures will end up null, but that Buccees is a wild card.

According to the Texas DSHS, it was a false alarm. However, I'm sure there will be more confirmed cases in new locations in the coming week. The ill person who traveled to San Antonio was not an outlier when it comes to human behavior.
