This was this morning just off Route 40, the first federally funded U.S. road, built between 1811 and 1834. It is also known as the National Pike.

That is the road that comes over the mountain from Cumberland, Maryland. It's basically the road that George Washington took, before there was a road, when he came this way to try to get the French to leave. The actual First World War, started a couple miles away at the Battle of Jumonville Glen, in May, 1754. From there they wanted to go to Fort Duquesne and kick them out of what would become Fort Pitt, and then Pittsburgh.

There is a ton of history surrounding The French And Indian War war all over Western Pennsylvania. Fort Necessity is just a bit east of here, basically on the Forbes Road. Braddock's Grave is also there. It's amazing. Fort Ligonier is not far from where I live as well.

This is a view west as you see things start to flatten out as you go towards Ohio.

I went to Youghiogheny River Lake after I took the photo because there is a bridge, in the lake that has been revealed because the lake is very low. It is called Great Crossing Bridge and was built in 1818 and was covered by water when they built the dam/lake.

My younger son just had his fall break and wanted to go visit his brother at school in Colorado, so I gladly obliged.  We missed the peak of the aspens, but it was still gorgeous and, like most trips up there, left me questioning the life decisions that keep me in Texas.

Numerous gratuitous trout pics are in the fishing thread.

I’ve been twice to Colorado, as a friend of mine has a place in Breckenridge, and it is just amazingly beautiful. Everywhere you look is a postcard-worthy photo.

Old coyote I've watched for years now. Broke a leg four years ago, looked skeletal for a while. Thought he wouldn't make it. Flash forward four years and he's still got the limp, plus missing a couple teeth and his eyes are beginning to cloud (he's 8), but he's the largest, most dominant alpha coyote in the valley.

Really late to having seen these.  Very nice.  I’ve always been interested in that type of macro photography.  These are 1:1 macro?  You seem to have pretty decent depth of field.  Are they single images or stacked?

Can you reveal the basics of these images.  Set up camera near flower, focus just above flower, bee attractant, wait…wait…..wait…… remote shutter release, profit?  Thanks.
As I recall my camera has a feature where it’ll automatically release the shutter when something comes into focus but not sure how that would work in photos like yours where part of the flower is already in focus.

Thank you!

These are 1:1, yeah. Shot with a Canon 5DIV and 100mm 2.8 USM (the older one but not the OLDEST one). I normally use it for scanning film, but wanted to go experiment with actual macro stuff.

They are all single images and shot handheld. I just use continuous autofocus (I still use the single center point), aperture priority, and high speed continuous drive mode. Apertures are anywhere from 4.5-13, but mostly f9.

I also use back button focus which makes something like this way easier. I sometimes also use back button focus to obtain initial focus and then release it and pull focus manually using the lens while shooting continuously. Then, just take your pick of the lot while in post-processing.

Don't think I ever posted this here yet, but this one got me to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition in London, and is now on display in the Natural History Museum. Once a lifetime type thing/ dream for any wildlife photographer. Low res copy, but you get the idea.

I’ve got a few recent-ish things. The non-Big Bend ones are actually like from a year ago, but I finally busted out the Mamiya again.

Shot on Fuji RVP50 and Acros II.

Very nice. Somehow I missed getting a pic of that stone building. When you hiked the old zoo did you take the trail in the opposite direction that leads to a climb up to the high point atop those huge boulders somewhat close to the highway? It's a bit of a climb and you may have to take a couple of hops over gaps between the boulders. But it's a great place to take some panos of the entire park and dam. Only problem was the small camera I had that day doesn't do panos and my cell phone decided to take a shit on itself about 30 minutes before I went up that way.

That’s the only area I haven’t really been to on that trail! I was telling myself today that I’ll need to do that on the next visit.

Old and new Brazos Point Bridges side by side. I walked across the bridge from one end to the other. On the walk back to my truck I could feel the span bouncing a tiny bit under my feet. I started kind of hopping up and down on the middle of the roadway and I could REALLY feel it then. I also heard a few small popping sounds coming from the trestle overhead. Needless to say I got the hell off really quick!
