The "Post a Picture You Took" thread

Went back to the park with the intent of getting a better panning shot. Speed limit is 25 so that's what I had to work with. Not really disappointed but the arcing swing in the pan is pretty obvious. I tried to use the onscreen grid to guide me but still couldn't get it really smooth. I was doing it handheld so I might give the tripod a shot if I decide to try again. Also this stretch of the roadway stays in the shade so a bit washed out.  f6.3, ISO 400, 1/40s . Anyway, some random dude on a bike.

Since I am late to the party on finding this thread I am going to post some pics of my travels over the last couple of years as time allows.

In late February of this year I was on a business trip to South Africa.  We had the weekend off so we took of for Pilanesburg to go on some safari drives.  Pilanesburg is approximately 220 square miles of wild game in the park.  You can either take a guided ride or take your own vehicle.  We did both over the course of 3 days.  I have been there numerous times and it never gets old.  I have also toured Krueger once as well.

The first is a series of pics of an elephant that was rolling in the mud.  The last pic in the series is a selfie I took as the elephant was walking along behind us.  That is my shoulder you slightly see.  All photos taken with my cell phone.  It had been raining so the lighting is not the best.

#1 bucket list item for me is an African safari. Awesome photos

I highly recommend it.  As I mentioned in an earlier post I have visited Pilanesberg National Park multiple times and Kruger National Park once.  Pilanesberg is ~220 square miles and Kruger is ~7500 square miles.  Despite these being "parks", and the border being fenced in, the animals are very much wild.  You have a strong chance of seeing the Big 5 in both parks.  The entrance fee to Pilanesberg is less than $10USD per day.  I typically stay at Bakubung in Pilanesberg.  You do not need a long time either.  The game are moving around early in the morning and again in the late afternoon/early evening.  There is still movement throughout the day but not as much.  I recommend going during our summer, their winter, because there will be less vegetation thus making it easier to see the game.  I strongly suggest going on a safari ride in an open air vehicle with a park ranger.  You will be riding with other people which will help as there are more eyes to spot the game.  Plus the rangers have radios so they are in contact with the other rangers just in case someone spots a Big 5 they can quickly drive to that area in hopes of others being able to see them too.  These rides last about 4 hours beginning pre-dawn and again in late afternoon. We did both; an early morning and evening ranger drive and then took our personal vehicle in between the guided drives.

Early morning is great because our summer, their winter, and the game will lie on the road for the absorbed heat--so get up early and see what's around on a self drive.  Kruger is amazing and a great way to check out parks in South Africa is SANparks.org--will show you various hides, campsites (select a camp at top) and what animals you are likely to see.  Have been to Kruger, Addo and Bontebok.  Would love to see Kgalagadi.  Currency is about 15.5 rand to the dollar.  The parks in South Africa are the closest you're going to get to the Garden of Eden.

Yes it is. It is not in the Pilanesberg Map and Guide book as a bird expected to be seen in the park. My South African co-worker that was with me was excited to see it as he said it was a rare bird to see. We never saw it fly. It ran down the middle of the road for about 50 yards and then turned into the grass to the right. We were able to watch it walk for another 20 yards or so then we lost it in the grass.

I snapped my picture at the zoo here in Waco. They are in a small enclosure with a couple of Dik-Dik's. Bird is bigger than they are, lol.

I think I like the one with color better, but just barely. It works either way really.

Tried my hand at panning again this weekend. Didn't start off that way, just got frustrated with the lighting in the fucking place and figured what the hell. Barrel racer on the home stretch, 1/80s, ISO 400, f1.8 85mm.

Took the old gal out to the park today, a sort of proof of concept trip. It was getting late already and I didn't bother to try and really get a good exposure/match the ambient. I just wanted to tote her, the flashes, couple stands etc... and see how much of a pain in the ass it would be. Wind did blow my umbrella over once but I had that coming, didn't weight the stand as soon as I opened the fucker up and yep, that happened. Got it folded back up but it's not exactly pristine anymore. All the gear fit in my sling bag and one gym bag. It's a bit much but not undoable at all.

I thought she'd enjoy the fresh air but nope, not impressed at all. McKayla Maroney got nothing on her for snobbery.

In a real rut lately.  Tired of going to the same parts of town to look for subjects.  Between family schedule and my lack of work, it's not possible to do day trips like I was before. Meh.  So, I re-edited some old photos or edited some that I skipped before.

Driving around the bloody nickel this morning.  Came across this house and car.  Took a shot with a film camera loaded with color film, so I shot this digital to process as B&W.

Then saw this prostitute and gave her a couple of dollars to let me take her picture...

I have grown tired of documenting graffiti.  I think I have 12,000 edited photos of graffiti and street art.  It is time to move on, but it is a subject that is always there, so I am sure I will take a few photos here and there.  This one is special as it is a tribute to artist Margaret Kilgallen who died 20 years ago.  The tribute was done by an artist named RP and he passed away a couple of years ago.
