The Perpetual War on Christmas. 2024 battles

Parliament

Recommended Posts

Starts off early this year with a dirty sneak attack from Jason Kelce.

Not a direct assault on celebrated tradition, but rather an attack on good taste.  This song is very bad and I think both sides of this war agree.

Those might have been Diwali lights. Is there a big Indian population around there?

No, and no. These were a full ass assault on Thanksgiving.

If you put up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving you should have to forfeit the day and go to work.

This fucking guy.

I say Merry Christmas. It’s just what I believe. If I see anyone like that assclown or people force feeding me “Happy Holidays”, I’m instantly turned off. Happy Holidays was the original use of pronouns, and I find it off-putting and avoid people that use it only to bask in their righteousness. But the guy above is just as bad.

Some of us socialize with those whose faiths differ from ours.  I'm Episcopalian. However, half of my family is Jewish, as are several of my close friends and colleagues.  Imposing "Merry Christmas" on someone who I know to be of another faith is not being evangelical.  It is being rude and insensitive, and it reflects a view their faith is not worthy of recognition.

But that's just me.

I do too, and I’m highly aware of it. I don’t say Merry Christmas.  I’ll say Happy Hanukah or whatever more high holy day they’re celebrating. I do this with my Jewish boss who grew up Baptist and also say Merry Christmas to her. Nothing I do is rude. I’m the perfect man, fuckface, except for the Skoal.

I usually just say Bah Humbug because Christmas sucks and I hate it.  The decorations suck.  The music sucks.  It’s an over commercialized bag of shit perpetuated by greedy corporations.  Even the fucking eggnog sucks.  Fuck the pressure to give presents and pretend to be happy about the shit someone gives you.  At least I don’t have to spend all night Christmas Eve putting shit together now.

Got the first card in the mail yesterday.  "Merry Holidays!"

What the fuck is that?  I don't get bend by either Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays, but Merry Holidays is fucking stoopid.

As Anglophiles, @Ghost of LL and I prefer "Happy Christmas."

That's actually not terrible.  Why fuck with the alliteration of Happy Holidays, though?

I say Merry New Year most of the time with a lame African accent, but most of my conversation is littered with obscure movie references.

Not really. IDGAF about some idiot aggy trying to sell me cut rate insurance. It impacts me zero.

I don’t either. It irritates me enough to comment on a message board. If I had business with the guy or another that force fed me Happy Holidays, I’d move the business away in both instances. But I’m not seeking out confrontations with these people.

How does someone force feed Happy Holidays?

I dunno.  I think there's a dead-even tie in the level of pathetic assholery between 1) people who get annoyed/feel "force fed" when someone says "happy holidays," and 2) people who get bent out of shape when someone says the more exclusive "merry Christmas" instead of the general "happy holidays."

When I call your office or pick up my coffee, if you say happy holidays or merry Christmas, both are pleasant and fine, and IDGAF.  I'm not offended by either choice.  Not even the littlest bit.  It's all a social artifice anyway.  You might as well be a barista in Chicago asking me "how bout them Bears?"  It's just social space-filler.

Fuck Merry Christmas.

Happy Saturnalia or GTFO.

And I don’t just say it. I live it.

As a self appointed Lord of Misrule, after I wish you a happy Saturnalia I immediately roll into a litany of embarrassing insults.

Then I whip out my dick and chase the lucky individual around until I get tired or I get the itch to gamble.

Because most people are good sports I usually give them a small gift as any good worshipper of Saturn does this time of year.
