There are gradients of what is language police ridiculous and what is not, using xer, xiv, xav pronouns was 100% on one scale but Happy Holidays was like 5%. This percentage being the people you piss off by enforcing it.

I have used Happy Holidays to get a a gauge reactions on people, but at the end it moves no needles.

There was some Christmas event in my building lobby yesterday, complete with carolers decked out in Dickins era costume. I had to repress my impulse to greet them with a scowling “hail Satan.”

So fucking sick of 21st century Christianity.

As Anglophiles, @Ghost of LL and I prefer "Happy Christmas."

I'm in the "bah, Humbug" camp these days.  I have oral argument next week, and then three depositions and an MSJ hearing the following week.  And I somehow need to get a hearing on a TCPA motion set before the end of the year.  All of that is on top of the generalized EOY bullshit that comes with running a business, having various social obligations, and dealing with a wife and kids who expect presents.  I don't have time for any of this holiday bullshit.

Oh, and on top of it Mrs.LL thinks she wants to buy a new house in West Lake Hills.

So bah, Humbug and fuck all y'all.

In Wal-mart (had to get more Christmas lights) and decided to look at Christmas cards. Saw some real cool ones. Picked up one for my son that says Merry Christmas and has Linus recited the Lords prayer. Saw another one, a Christmas tree that plays Oh Tannenbaum and says Happy Holidays. Grabbed that one for my daughter.

Old bitty next to me asks why I was not getting the Merry Christmas one for my daughter as well.

"Well, her boyfriend is Muslim."

Ya know, she says, "Mohamed is the most used name in England," in a tone showing shock.

"Wait until it is here."

She looks at me aghast, and starts to walk off.

"Ma'am, I lived in Muslim countries for a long time, don't worry. Dubai has great Holiday celebrations.  Plus the food is awesome. Hope you have a Happy Hanukkah."

I fucking hate wal mart. Brings the best out in me.

Never a good sign when a story starts out "This one time, at Walmart. . . ."

I generally say Happy Holidays to people at work because I don't care enough to know which holidays any of them celebrate. It's laziness and a bit of apathy, but it works fine and doesn't cause any follow up conversations that waste 10 minutes in a meeting explaining what they celebrate. It covers everything, which is convenient, and it's not off-putting to anyone.

Although, there are a few guys at work who will say something like "Merry Christmas or happy whatever you celebrate" and chuckle about it. I think they are trying to be pricks while having the option to fall back on it being a joke if anyone gets upset. Using it as an opportunity to divide and annoy people is equally stupid and shitty behavior.

I say Merry Christmas but people who think Christmas has anything to do with Jesus need to get their heads out of the sand.

Christmastime, you know, Jesus born to a big jolly guy in a red jacket.

"Ho, ho, ho! Ho, ho, ho, baby Jesus! And what would you like for Christmas?"

"Peace on Earth and goodwill towards men."

"Well, what about a clockwork train?"

"Oh, yes, much better. Forget peace on earth, I don't care.”

Pisses me off we jump holidays. Went up to my dad's in north Dallas on the day after Halloween and there were Christmas lights up everywhere. FUCK THAT.

Yeah this year we saw Christmas lights earlier than ever in our 'hood in SW Austin - 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Such bullshit. Chill, y'all. You don't need to turn on your Christmas lights as soon as they're available in the stores. Day after Thanksgiving? Go for it. Before that? Fuck off.
