My only personal experience with this is that I have a memory of John Larroquette dying. Like I remember reading about it at my desk at work. Only problem is that he isn't dead. Not sure if it was a dream or what, but I was pretty confused a few years ago when he had some new project come out. "Was this made before he died? Wait what do you mean he's not dead?"

For some reason I thought he died after he made The 10th Kingdom. And then I thought it was Ann-Margret but she's alive and kicking.

Turns out that Moira Lister and Rutger Hauer are the only major stars to have died since then.

That one is simple.  The only surviving members of Night Court are currently on Night Court.

uh, how old are you?

He is famous for being a radical anti-apartheid activist/leader who was imprisoned for almost 30 years.

Just list all of the imprisoned activists who didn't become president

So in the 80's, you think all those people marching in protests and wearing "Free Mandela" shirts were early campaign supporters?

Seriously, learn some history. He was famous long before he was president.

His release from prison was a much bigger story than his election.

Unless I’m remembering that wrong due to the Mandela Effect and oh no I’ve gone cross eyed.

That and all the hot liberal chicks wearing "Free Mandela" shirts in the 80s.

The "famous for being president" take is not one I've heard before. It's like arguing that Arnold Schwarzenegger is famous for being governor of California.

No I mean you took a picture back then when it was in theaters.

That pic is from an original 35mm print. That's what was shown in theaters. There was no giant conspiracy where United Artists secretly tracked down every 35mm print in existence and manually erased her braces.

Again, we’re talking about reality changing here…. Only some people remember the unaltered version.

So yeah if you took a picture of a newspaper clipping saying that Mandela died in prison in 1988 or whatever, that wouldn’t exist now, because it never happened. Or it would change, a la Back to the Future.

It doesn’t make any sense at all when you break it down but I do find it interesting. Especially bizarre cases like this one.

Let's just use Occam's Razor here. What's more likely?

  1. Time travelers from the multiverse edited our timeline so we don't see Dolly's braces anymore...for reasons
  2. Some people mistakenly thought Dolly was wearing braces when they watched a movie 45 years ago

Oh I know. I’m just playing along with the hypothetical.

What about this? Can’t tell what is real or fake anymore.

That's a fan edit, like the pic I posted on the 1st page. This video dives into it a lot more.

One of the possible explanations is the Visa commercial Richard Kiel did, wherein a checkout girl with braces smiles at him. A lot of people probably conflate that with the movie.

3. She was wearing braces at her funeral decades earlier.

I need to see a Laserdisc or Betamax 1983 release version of the movie to make absolutely sure she didn’t have braces. It is the only way I can know for sure. In the meantime I saw this website in the internet archive to keep the discussion rolling.

I’m not trying to be the conspiracy guy. It’s insane to think that if the braces were actually there, the studio went to the lengths it did to erase every shred of evidence she ever had braces from the film and home release versions.

But on the other hand, this is one instance where I can understand why they would do something like this and remove the braces to avoid the implications of tarnishing a billion dollar franchise. Having a busty woman with pigtails and braces running around with a large man isn’t a good look and everyone knows it.

The actress herself said there was no braces so we just have to take her word for it since we have no solid proof to back up our memories of the braces.

My guess is the film quality was so crappy back then that you probably couldn't tell either way, and people just assumed they saw braces on that blurry ass screen.

35mm film quality has a higher pixel density equivalent than 4k. It was more likely shitty projectors/small dirty screens/people viewing from 200 feet away.
