Stabbing Westward was my favorite band back in the day. Was walking back to campus after a concert and a car full of what seemed like fans asked if I needed a ride. Not worrying about my kidneys being harvested, I jumped in and the lead singer of Stabbing Westward was sitting next to me. This was the only thread I'd ever be able to share that story, so hope you enjoyed it.

CSB!

I liked 'em too. :)

Never saw them live though, and never almost lost my kidneys to the lead singer.

That dude was one of the most down-to-earth musicians I've met (and I've dealt with hundreds of them since I used to photograph for a music magazine). They were already pretty big at that time and apparently he was going with random fans to get tacos (or maybe they tried to harvest his kidneys?).

Texas lost to UGA, beat Vandy by 3 and just beat Arkansas by 10. They are a very talented team for sure but I don't think they are quit the juggernaut that some make them out to be. Texas is just now starting to feel what it's like to play a brutal SEC schedule where every week it's a new challenge. Kentucky has the dogs to play with the Horns, they have proven that previously in games against OM and UGA, but what is unknown is what Kentucky team will show up. They had an off week, and then coasted to an easy win over a weak appointment this past week, allowing them to give a lot of guys rest. So benefitting from that I think this game could be interesting but ONLY if we come in prepared and play with good energy and confidence, and maybe a chip on their shoulder with something to prove.

Also Texas maybe looking ahead to next week when they play a mutual hate fest affair against aTm.

Furthest east Texas has traveled?  Boston College seems like it would be hard to beat - unless we end up doing one of those weird Ireland games at some point.

Texas made a couple of trips to Chestnut Hill in the mid 70s to play Boston College.  Without breaking out a map and doing a deep dive into the latitude and longitude of all opponents, I think this may be the farthest east Texas has ever played.

For Texas -

North: @Washington 1975
East: @Harvard 1931
South: @Hawaii 1995
West: @Hawaii 1995

Next thread derail.

I had no idea Texas played at Hawaii. That's awesome.

BC and UDub would both be fun away games, though lower tier P5s like BC are a no-win proposition to play.

Ah, got it, kid.

OK boomer.

Just kidding I'm probably a year older than you.

I was just out of college and a friend of mine had just bought a house in Westover Hills, with a pool.  And he'd also just bought a "big screen TV" which were sort of brand newish at the time, outside of sports bars and Mr. Gatti's.  That game started so late we were already pretty lit, and by the end of the game we weren't paying much attention and many shenanigans were afoot, but I do remember thinking, "who is this Ricky kid?  He might be pretty good."

Unless you were born a Texas fan, I doubt you probably remember the Texas vs Hawaii cancellation debacle of 2000-ish either. That shit was completely embarrassing. I think Dodds blamed canceling it in part due to jet fuel costs or some shit. They just kept digging the hole deeper and deeper.

Also, I think Texas should schedule a home and home with Hawaii.

Also also, they should do that with Tulane too.

Definitely Superdome.  We did it in... 2001 I think?  Great trip.

That Saturday was my worst day of gambling in my life.  Went 0-10.  Pressed on Sunday and went 0-6.  As a junior in college with no money.  Not a fun experience......lost about $1200 which was the equivalent to $1B to me at the time.

2002.  I remember being in awe at the Superdome because they served alcohol.  Dudes in the row behind us bought a case of beer from a vendor and started passing them out to everyone around them.  Good times.  Tulane kicked off one time, which tells the story of the game.  Simms, Benson, Selvin Young had decent days.
