The small college town bit gets kind of old, in my mind. They all start seeming the same - been to Knoxville, Fayetteville (twice), Tuscaloosa, and Ann Arbor over the last 3 years. I was in Fayetteville this past weekend with the wife and BIL (arky alum) and it was fine, and the dinners were great, but it's always the same drill at the bars and restaurants near campus, and the same horns down and SEC shit-talking there and around the tailgates.

Starkville and Auburn will renew your enthusiasm.

Except this year the winner plays for the SEC championship and is in the playoffs and the loser is done.     It's a massive game.  None of this bullshit chest puffing like it's one sided, only downside for us, etc..  Give me a break.

According to ESPN's playoff predictor, aggy has a 58% chance of making the playoff as loser of the CCG. And if we beat Kentucky and lose to aggy, we are still 75% to make the playoff.

Spoiler

The two outside SEC that I've been to multiple times and enjoyed the most were Madison, WI and oddly, Manhattan Kansas.

Always enjoyed the people and vibe in both.

Stillwater isn't terrible either, but I've got friends there that are life long residents so... pretty big bias.

That math doesn't work at all based on remaining schedules.  It's possible but I put it more like 25%.  Would need a lot of things to fall our way as resume won't really stack up if favorites hold serve.   We just need to win the next 2 and it won't matter.

Madison and Seattle are top of my wishlist for Texas to schedule an away game at.

We're hosting a Kentucky couple in our suite this weekend and they're great friends. The guy joining us played for Mumme and Leach at Kentucky and he's buddies with a bunch of guys involved in CFB and the NFL that he played with or got to know through playing for those guys. One of his good friends is Neal Brown, the HC at West Virginia. I've gotten to chat with Brown due to my friend a few times. That dude has dealt with some crazy shit at West Virginia. Anyhow, my buddy is a great source of non-UT CFB information and I present that here in threads when and where relevant.

As to road trips, we're planning on going to the UK trip next year and making 4 nights of it, with a couple in one of Louisville or Cincinnati, two of the only large US cities that neither my wife or I have ever visited between us. Our friends go and on about Lexington, and we'll be there with them, so I hope it's a blast.

I love Cincinnati, super underrated city. The Bourbon trail is obviously a great time as well.

I was going to say, I'd do Louisville instead of Cincinnati but I admittedly haven't spent as much time in Cincy and it's been at least a decade since I've been there. I just remember it being really spread out. There is definitely something to be said about the convenience of flying in and out of there though. Louisville has a neat downtown and a lot of history. And like Lexington, has some surprisingly really good restaurants. Lots of upscale southern inspired food if you're into that.

Not sure when you were last there, but they now have a pretty good Central/South American food scene emerging. Also, few rooftop bars have sprung up in downtown Louisville. It's making a push to be a real city.

It also has some phenomenal sweets shops.

The UK woman we'll be traveling with is a rich girl from Louisville with family history woven into the city, so I'm coupling that with this atrocity that you've just posted and will ensure that Louisville is the choice.

Also, while I know you were joking, I'll never go to Starkville. Christ. My oldest daughter did 3 years in TFA volunteer work in Clarksdale and I visited a few times while she was there. There is nothing redeeming about the interior of Mississippi. I've never been to Starkville and I will gladly die having never been, either.

If there is any truth to this (there isn’t, at all) we are losing that game then. This is going to be the most heated game for either team in a very long time.

This is my only real fear, Sark hasn't gotten his team to match the intensity for our rivals.  Well that and we seem due for a special teams mistake because our punt returner likes to live dangerously.

Complete momentary derail, I would probably put Lexington in the top 5, maybe number 3 destination for road trips. Definitely #3 if you like Bourbon. Obviously, Vandy and Texas are 1 and 2. Yes, I know the game is in Austin.

Edit-

1) Texas

2) Vandy

3) Tennessee

4) Kentucky

5) Bama

6) South Carolina

Bottom of the list aggie and MSU.

You can fly into Louisville or Nashville Thursday night, road trip to Lexington and if you choose a wise path have a beautiful drive and hit nearly all the distilleries.

Ambitious? Fly into Nashville, fly out of Cincinnati. Prepare to pay a lot of shipping costs for goods.

If it's a nice fall weekend, I cannot recommend enough that y'all take some time for outdoor activities. Mammoth Cave and the Red River Gorge (truly great hikes and world class rock climbing) should be top of the list.

Cincy has big corporate money (P&G especially), and they've invested a ton in rehabbing their historic districts, especially Over-the-Rhine, which has been super cool to see - the before and afters in the spoiler below are really something.

Louisville also has some lovely historic districts, and fun things to do but it feels grittier all around (which is absolutely some people's vibe).

Anyway, no more derailing into Ohio River city tourism from me.

I have finally accepted that Bolden is a crazy bastard who has good hands.  He might get himself killed eventually, but he always seems to hold on to the ball.

No idea how this site is working but it's nonsense. In a scenario where we beat Kentucky and lose to A&M, it has the 4 SEC teams as Bama, Ole Miss, TN and TX.  So not only do we assume the committee ignores the H2H win and punishes A&M for losing in the SEC championship game (which I don't think is likely), it either assumes UGA is going to lose to Ga Tech or that the committee would ignore not only the H2H win @ Texas but also ignore win against TN and slot them behind both.  Zero chance that would ever happen.

If we lose to aggy, I bet there are enough people on the committee who will select Texas for the playoffs just for the sheer entertainment value of seeing aggy indignation and tears.

Did Deandre Moore get banged up?  It seems like he did not play after the 1st quarter play where he lost 8 yards.

Yes, leg injury. I don't think we know any details other than he did not return.

Speaking of, what is the holdup with the SEC waiting so long to release schedules?

They're waiting to see how things shake out.  Then they will arrange things so that we get to play an easy slate.

Texas not only nearly lost to K State last year, but K State really should have won the game. It took their galaxy brain OC a whole half to realize running right into T'Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy was a poor choice and that he should instead utilize his veteran QB to pick on Texas's horrid secondary. He never quit the QB power into the pair of NFL DTs on the other side, even in big moments late in the game.

Guess who calls the plays for Texas A&M this year

Well Murphy qb’d the entire game and had some particularly inspiring poor turnovers to get them back into the game.

Which goes to your point on how uk stays in the game, but let’s hope ewers can eclipse murphy’s kstate performance.

Kentucky -Kstate is an apt comparison in general terms.  Older, veteran , over-achieving bunch prone to gaint killer status periodocally.

We’ll need to play good , complimentary football , smart ball and we should be fine.

I still think the deep ball success is coming

and when it does , watch out.

I hope D. Moore’s injury is not serious and it looked like Bolden injured his shoulder too.  Might we see One of freshman WR?  What about the CA kid? The WR with the great film.
like to see him.

Bond, Golden, Wingo and then the Freshmen I presume, if Moore and Bolden are banged up.  This is where Cook fucked up. Could be getting big minutes.

Kentucky is a weird team. They're good enough to go beat Ole Miss on the road and push Georgia to the limit.

Then they lose at home to Auburn (who rushed for over 300 yards) and got blown out by Florida in Lagway's first start.

You just have no idea what kind of team is going to show up.

K-State usually takes care of bad teams and ends the season ranked. Kentucky is KSU Lite at best.

I was speaking generally. But this year yes you are correct. But I dare you to find more than a couple more examples of both teams having national relevance going into that game in the 100 plus years of the rivalry. You won’t find it. So you give me a break.

I was stationed at USSOCOM for a few years and we have a small facility on Lexington that outfits the helos for all the cool operator shit.   We also do an annual leadership offsite there.

Lexington is cool as shit with delicious brown liquor

They can fly the same way chickens and roadrunners can “fly”. Not very well.
