it wasn't dkr yet in 1951 (ducks)

Has our stadium moved west since 1951?

Everyone (see: aggy) knows Austin, is now — more than ever — a libruhl, ultra-gay homeless mega-LGTBQ drug-crazed hippie smorgasbord of heathen depravity.

Thus, and I believe various recently commissioned topographical and geographic studies — namely "Fitlump's Austin GISc and Emergency Management Study of 2023" — conclusively proved that Austin is, quote, "Furkin' Way Further Left" than ever before.

Ergo, it is further "west".

Therefore, Kentucky has indeed never been this far west EVAHR!

The LB went down against Tenn and is a big loss. If they don’t have Walker either, that’s 2 key players on defense. This thing could be a hideous blowout.

Sounds like they are getting Walker back after all.

In addition, Deone Walker, Barion Brown, and Jamon Dumas-Johnson are no longer on the injury report, so they’re set to return this week.

I am no geologist or geography expert, but I understand that Kentucky is also in North America and thus must be drifting southwest as well.  If North America is neither stretching or compressing (which may be a faulty assumption), the distance between Kentucky and Austin would remain the same.  Thus, while it may be true that this game will be the farthest West in relation to, say, the Prime Meridian, the game should be the same distance west from Kentucky to Austin.  Therefore, I am slightly lest enthused about the westwardness of this matchup than I would be if it were also the farthest distance west that they have travelled.

Does anyone know how far west we've travelled?  This seems like something we ought to know so we are ready for it when we break the record.

The fact that they're already starting out farther west than they in 1951 doesn't mean that this isn't now the farthest west they have traveled.  No one said this is the farthest westward distance they have ever traveled to a game, which is how you redefined the question in your last sentence.  That is a different calculation, of course, and not the one we're discussing.  What we're discussing is that, objectively, this will be the farthest west they have ever played football.

Hawaii bro. Not sure how we beat that one.

I don't think American Samoa Community College has a football team and Guam is in the eastern hemisphere, so Hawaii is it.

Furthest east Texas has traveled?  Boston College seems like it would be hard to beat - unless we end up doing one of those weird Ireland games at some point.

If it's the same place then it's still the farthest west they've ever played. It's just not the first time.

Thanks to Continental Drift it may be slightly farther west now.

Yes, we discussed upthread why this is a dumb take and you should feel bad. Read page 1 if it helps.

I think Boston is the answer for east

We should do a neutral site game with Navy on the deck of a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. Somewhere in Atlantic international waters.

If the earth is a sphere and you keep going west, then Athens, GA is further west than either Austin or Honolulu for UK

au contraire mon frère, while the entire continental plate has moved west-southwest at the rate of at 1 inch per year, the plate has also rotated counter-clockwise at 3-4 inches per year, thus placing the cities of austin and lexington 2-3 inches to the east/northeast per year over the course of the last 72 years equaling a move to the east/northeast of approximately 15 feet

also factoring in this crucial investigation is the 1999 renovation which lowered the field 6 feet and moved the field south - but by how much the intertrons do not confirm

therefore, it is probable that the continental plate clockwise rotation proves this year's game is not as far west as lube's last visit to austin

This is exactly the point I was making.  I think its much more significant and interesting to discuss the westward distance, not just absolute west position.  Clearly that is more relevant to the game.

Also, I am not yet ready to concede that this is the furthest west they've ever played based on continental drift alone.  If the continental drift rate of North America is 2.3cm per year, that pales in comparison to the magnetic pole shift rate of somewhere between 15 and 34 miles per year, depending on your source.  I haven't had a chance to research the magnetic pole locations in 1951 vs. 2024 to see how that may affect how far west DKR was respectively.

And before you start blathering on and on about the distinction between the magnetic pole and the geodetic pole, I will go ahead and point out that there is also further analysis required there.  And with the Earth's precession rate of around 1 degree westward per 72 years.  Since the last game was played in 1951, we should be just over 1 degree off.  Therefore, its entirely possible that objectively, Austin actually less west than it used to be.

Excellent.  Everyone knows you always lose the game that is the second furthest West you've ever played.

This is good work. Is vegas factoring this into the spread? If not, I can see an opportunity.

Does the Balcones fault factor into this at all? I mean, it’s right there and last time I checked it was spreading slowly. Actually I never once checked.

Why would he do that when he can post his hot take on pg 7?

He may be missing out on Geology Surly so I can't say that I really blame him.

It's now clear to me that DKR is both more west and more east than it was in 1951. Thanks, guys.

Did you know that Alaska is both the westernmost and easternmost state?
