Texas vs Syracuse- UKG Legends Classic, Thursday, 6pm on ESPN2 from Brooklyn

Biggest issue is the 5.

Shedrick is a borderline type starter and Onyema isn't any good at all. This should have been a 20 point lead in the first half if not for offensive rebounds. The 2nd half shifted when we couldn't stop Lampkin inside. When teams are able to score it slows us down in transition where our offense thrives.

I dont know what the fuck Terry does all week at practice, but maybe he can switch it up and try coaching some basketball. You can see some talent there, but no cohesion. Both teams looked like ass tbh.

I imagine you can watch his practice on any asphalt playground in America …

They probably aren’t. Take a look at their first 3 games.

We need to improve a lot. Mark wasn’t right in his first game back. Hopefully he can find a rhythm before conference play.

I don't like these type of tournaments.

It's the same thing as Louisville last year (who was also bad). It makes no sense to play a neutral site game that's essentially going to be a road game against a bad team. You're playing with fire doing this.

Granted, I guess it's hard to know that teams like Louisville and Syracuse will be bad.

That was a frustrating game to watch. I guarantee we lose that game during the Shaka years.

Syracuse has some solid pieces. Not sure why they suck so bad. Lampkin is a hoss and Starling is also a good player.

I didn’t actually think Tre Johnson played that bad . Most of his shots were decent, he just wasn’t hitting them. Then for a bit he was clearly forcing them, but he redeemed himself at the line. It shows a lot of maturity that he was able to hit all of the FTs despite struggling all game.

Shedrick drives me crazy. He is lost all the time on defense. I really wish we could have upgraded in the portal.

I was super skeptical of the Kaluma addition late in the portal cycle but I am glad to have been proven wrong.

He's got hustle, heart, and he's aggressive.

I was concerned about him being a black hole on offense but hey, second leading scorer, who saw that coming?

If we can get the PGs 3 shooting to heat up we're in business

Looks like they've got 30 coaches on the bench.  You'd think one of them could make a difference.

I'm glad we won, but I'm not sure this team is going too far. 'Cuse plays TN next week.  I'll be interested to see how the Vols do.

Cuse exposed our weakness (interior strength and defensive boards) and our stud freshman let the pressure get to him a bit tonight (hopefully a great learning opportunity). Shed got out-toughed and ended with just 2 boards … he’s going to have to step it up with the interior defense if we are gonna be a top 25 team

Hoping Kent can provide some interior toughness when he’s back

I only got to watch a little bit of the game but the triple post pivot move with like 2 mins left where he got called for a travel and (in my book) fouled the defender was fucking awful.

You aren't Hakeem, bro.

He's soft inside and not mobile on the perimeter.

A lot of the breakdowns on the perimeter are when teams put Shedrick in some type of action and he just gets completely lost. Johnson and Kaluma were frustrated with him several times.

I don’t know why teams like Texas and Texas Tech agree to these type tournaments. You have to play neutral site games against teams that are essentially road games.

You’re just asking for disaster this early in the season with less potential reward. As Tech found out last night.

it’s good adversity to face in november in a tournament style (neutral site) setting. you really don’t have anything to lose unless you’re a fraud. there’s plenty to gain though if you’re legit or working towards it.

From a NET perspective, it doesn't do anything for you.

On a neutral court, these 2 games are just decent wins but potential for bad losses. Against teams essentially playing at home and crowd on their side. If you want to test yourself then schedule somebody good at home.

I know the dude would have costed an arm and a leg but Toppin would have legitimately completed this roster perfectly. You don’t get Kaluma if you get Toppin but he provides exactly what this team is lacking in the paint.

This is what the portal is. Follow the money.

Tech has one of the best frontcourts in the country but their guards are awful. Toppin could be a legit NPOY candidate with some good guards. I guess he got a bag though which is all he cares about.

Yeah, I like these setups, though I'd prefer a day in between.  It's very much first weekend/second weekend where you know your first opponent and have 2 potential opponents in your next game that you have to prepare for and then gameplan immediately for whoever wins that game after yours.

It gives the coaches and players a good taste of March.

RT and staff had to plan and prepare for both Tech/St Joe's and then immediately pivot to solely focuses on St Joe's and get the team ready for them after a late game ending.

no disrespect to you, but who cares? it’s two games in november where you get to travel, play in a giant, cavernous arena on a “neutral” court where the crowd is actually against you. and it’s on national tv. i’ll gladly take that experience, regardless of its impact on my NET rating.
