There is some talent on this team, but you can just see they don’t understand how to attack on offense, or play good defense, switching off. They rely pretty much on hero ball. It’s so frustrating to watch.

Yep, this is two years in a row now you can see the team has some talent, but they’re totally disjointed and lacking cohesion. The lack of coaching is painfully obvious, and makes it hard to watch.

Yeah, I like these setups, though I'd prefer a day in between.  It's very much first weekend/second weekend where you know your first opponent and have 2 potential opponents in your next game that you have to prepare for and then gameplan immediately for whoever wins that game after yours.

It gives the coaches and players a good taste of March.

RT and staff had to plan and prepare for both Tech/St Joe's and then immediately pivot to solely focuses on St Joe's and get the team ready for them after a late game ending.

Two bucks says no one would be able to tell the difference in either plan or preparation …

Texas Tech wanted nothing more than to get a crack at us. womp womp, losers

Texas was a blown 16 point lead from meeting up with Tech....

In the 3rd place game lol

Also we got spared the most toxic game thread that would have a been a really good warmup for next Saturday.

I will say, I'm pretty confused why Syracuse has been bad to start the year.

Sterling and Bell have been good college players. Lampkin is a good college big with a ton of experience at the P5 level. Freeman was a 5 star in this year's class and as high as the #6 recruit per ESPN.

They should be a NCAA-tournament bubble type team. Maybe they still are.

I saw bad decision making throughout most of the game last night.   A little finger pointing too.  And then there's the fact that their 3 ball pct has been atrocious. And FT pct

I dare say that Syracuse is more talented than half the teams in the SEC.

  • JJ Starling is a 5-star guard (#20 recruit in 2022) averaging 20 points per game
  • Donnie Freeman is a 5-star forward (#8 recruit in 2024) averaging 11 and 8.
  • Elijah Moore and Chris Bell are National top-100 guys both contributing well
  • Lucas Taylor, Jaquan Carlos and Jyare Davis were all 4-star transfers
  • And then you have Eddie Lampkin who is a load for anyone

If they didn't play so undisciplined and stupid, they could be a top-30 team. I can only assume that their coach must be horrid.

From a NET perspective, it doesn't do anything for you.

On a neutral court, these 2 games are just decent wins but potential for bad losses. Against teams essentially playing at home and crowd on their side. If you want to test yourself then schedule somebody good at home.

So you think an early season home game against a good opponent is an equivalent test to playing at a neutral site with a hostile crowd? There's a reason the top programs play in these early season tournaments every year.

I’m right there with you. They have some talent too. Their shooting is terrible. That’s what’s killing them.

No, I think it's better for NET.

Beating a top 30 NET team at home has way more value than beating a team outside the top 100 on a neutral court. This Saint Joseph's win or loss could very well end up as a Quad 3 result.

I think the "hostile crowd" shit is way overvalued in non-conference play. Texas will get plenty of those type environments in the SEC.

Eh. We had roster issues last year and appear to have a roster issue this year. Which is kind of Terry shooting himself in the foot. Shedrick is still a bum and that's on RT. Horton was a bum last season and that was on RT (and our starting guards were TINY). He needs to quit putting guys like that on the roster.

I think he has a very average eye for fit and talent and is a pretty good in-game coach which should generally get you a couple wins in the tourney with a brand like Texas behind you.

I want to see Mark healthy before I start passing any harsh judgements on this team. Your best player being out - especially when he's your starting SG* - is not a good way to kick off the season.

We'll get another data point tonight.

Maybe we should judge the makeup of the team when the full rotation plays at least one game together let alone an entire OOC schedule. As a reminder, Beard's 1st season was exactly the same with disjointed play at times, then when he got most of that rotation back for year two together with a some added HS talent did it take off into the EE team.

I am not sure why the injury situation has been so bad for Terry to start both of his seasons.
