One of my very first cars was an XK 120 Coupe. It was hella fun to drive, when it was actually drivable, but its electrics were filthy with green wires, and useful running time probably was better measured in hours rather than days. It did cure my desire for any sort of British mechanical devices, so experiences related here hit close to home.

there are renderings of the new jags out there, pretty fucking sexy. their all electric coupe is gonna start at like $115K though. $150K I'm sure when you add the shit that makes a car worth six figs. pretty much competing with the taycan which is a similar price point and also sexy as hell.

There are rules.

Did you miss the part when I said she was also crazier?

I mean, there are rules, but rule #1 is "I want to live."

Compare it to this Volvo ad that just dropped. Night and day.

They're doing it wrong. That ad has shots of the actual car they're trying to sell. That's lame and old.

Needs more clowns too.

So...when is the last time anyone gave a shit about Jaguar? It's gone viral. Ad is successful.

Right? Exactly. It's weird and it's stupid and... it has done something that hasn't happened in decades: Get people talking about the brand.

Anyone can make an ad that goes viral.  A Chili's ad that just shows people licking dirt feet would go viral. "Success" is when the ad leads to product sales.

No one is rushing out to Jag dealerships due to this ad.

Well. Yeah. Didn't they stop making cars while they retooled all their plants to make the new electrics?

Raw Dong Lover responds to the backlash:

In an interview with the Financial Times, Rawdon Glover said the campaign's intended message was lost "in a blaze of intolerance" and that the controversial promotional video was not meant to be a "woke" statement, as some critics have argued.

I always heard the reason Brits drink room temperature beer was because all of their kegerators were designed and built by Jaguar engineers.

I expect the shift back to high end luxury only will work - not sales volume but profitability. When money isn’t a factor the EV wins for a lot of buyers, add no threat of the brand being watered down by entry level models and I suspect the shift will work. Honestly, I probably have one absurd car purchase in me before I retire and I’d consider the coupe as it’s rendered, it’s fucking sexy as hell. Will I buy it? Probably not but before I saw it jaguar wasn’t even close to on a wish list. For those with cash to burn, I bet the brand will reemerge on their list. And that’s their underlying goal.

The name of their CEO (promoted from MD) is literally RAW DONG LOVER

What's truly bizarre is his name is an anagram that fully encapsulates the phrase Land Rover with a few leftover characters.

Rawdon Glover

For the "W? Go Land Rover!"

While the first of the new armada of Jaguars will be a four-door grand tourer, that car should follow the brutalist vision presented by the Type 00. The name marries the "Type" nomenclature from past Jaguars with two zeros, one to reference the lack of tailpipe emissions from its future lineup and the other representing the rebirth of the company, using this car as a new starting point.

And Zero to represent the amount of producible, or marketable, elements of either of these concepts.

Between the seats sits a piece of travertine stone, which Jaguar says serves as a plinth to support the seats.

I was going to buy one if it was granite.

Travertine? I'm out.

They actually copied the Rolls design

As a concept, it actually looks really really good. But also, as a concept, basically only 5% of that aesthetic is actually ever going to carry over in production

That Volvo commercial gave me goosebumps. Maybe because my kids are close to aging out of our home or maybe because I want to be a grandparent or maybe because it’s just a solid piece of advertising art. Well done.

It's not too late for them to hire a new ad agency

My wife asked me to test drive a Volvo for her. The entire time I kept hearing in my head, “they’re boxy, but good”

Such a great movie. An underrated gem.

I dunno if I'm fancy enough for that, but in the 90s I carried a log inside my VW Camper Van and I'd use it to chock the wheel on hills because I was building up the energy to crawl under it and repair the parking brake line.
