Maybe I haven't watched enough primetime games, but how many times have you seen a pregame intro that has an entire fight song with lyrics on the screen? That was so bizarre I'm convinced aggy begged for it to happen. Also, someone needs to photoshop these goobers with dicks in their hands:

Who's the idiot who wrote that? He doesn't know who won the game but knows every detail and how it played out?

Agreed, it wasn't good.

Caught everyone off guard in the game thread. A WTF moment, if there ever was one.

It's all of it, their entire attitude that just being one of them makes you special and great. Their coaches know that no matter who they sign in recruiting those players will be pumped up as diamonds in the rough and that people should watch the tape. If they sign talented headcases then everyone else is just jealous. They can't lose with A&M media as long as they're still the coach. Same for their players, they are immediately anointed as great when they sign or transfer there. There is no motivation to prove yourself because just being there makes you a hero.

Compare that to Texas. Yeah it's dumb but the fact that it's a meme for us to welcome new coaching hires with an immediate thread to fire them is the exact opposite. We question our coaches and players constantly. I used to worry about posting these facts publicly but A&M people are too stupid and proud to listen to Longhorns anyway.

When you get to Texas our fans start to demand that you prove you are good enough to be a Longhorn. Great players (both talent-wise and as teammates) use that motivation to earn that right. When you get to A&M you've already proven to their fans that you're a hero, the only motivation is to talk shit about how awesome you are just like they do and they'll never question you. That spare OL Zuhn was getting love all week from those yokels for talking shit about how great A&M, Kyle Field, and their fans are. Actually playing football well isn't even a concern.

Billy Liucci has made a lot of money by telling them they have better coaches, better players, and better recruits than Texas every year for 30 years. Yet they're too stupid to wonder why that never produces better results. They will never be great because they will never change. If they actually catch lightning in a bottle someday it will be short-lived because the hero worship will just get worse. Does the name Kevin Sumlin and the phrase "plug-and-play offense" ring a bell?

Let me shorten that for you:

longhorn coaches and players have to prove they belong, aggy coaches and players have to prove they they don’t.

I honestly think, and I’m being completely serious, that what holds back their mentality is the 12th man. I think that helps the mindset that someone else will do “it”, whether that be the tackle, catch, block, etc. It’s a built in excuse. Just like relying on the stadium being so loud. They should quit pointing at that and look inward about their real problems. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend or your facilities if your overall kids aren’t good. Realize that and start making those changes.

I think to entice players and keep them, aggy lets the top players go rogue somewhat, which results in lack of discipline, and has cost them coaches.  Juggling talent is a tightrope.  Talent often assumes it can overcome obstacles because they're good, but at each level, the talent gap narrows. Then what? You can't get guys that want to do their own thing and only play to their strengths.  Gotta work and do the shit jobs that earn the big play.  That pressure Broughton and Collins apply isn't given.

Fundamental football isn't fun, sexy or glamorous, especially to those that overvalue their skillset.  They've graduated grinding, and think that after they get beat, they can just turn on that extra gear the next play--doesn't happen.  People aren't light switches that turn off and on, if you're undisciplined, when it counts you jump offsides, lose your man, fall for misdirection, etc.  But gotta grind every play because not only do you not know when the flash of opportunity presents, but you help make that opportunity for yourself or another.  It's a mentality that requires work and repetition until it becomes intuitive and muscle memory--that's the discipline/work, but also acknowledgement (maturity and buy in). Being undisciplined results in other players doing the same trying to cya and over extending because of trust issues, which builds into a bad unit. Overall, I'd venture that this is culture, along with being at practice on time, working on the little things repeatedly, every drill, every rep, and watching film.

My mantra in life is the energy coming out is the energy going in.  Works at taco stands too.

That was great.   Anyone watching the game without a dog in the hunt had to notice how fixated they are on Texas - we already knew it.

We went 13 years without playing each other - all along they sang their song about us at every game, in every sport, and at every event, graduation, orientation, . . .

Pretty sure they did something similar in the broadcast of the 2011 game for both teams.

I think one of the announcers(was it Tirico?) may have read some of the lyrics while they were shown on screen.  where we say "and it's goodbye to A&M" and where they say " Texas University"

Next year we need to pay ESPN Chyron guy to spell their name on the chyron scoreboard "Texas A$M Aggys"

My guess is someone knew the chyron guy and the director and begged them to do it.

On the 4th down where Burke makes the TOFL, NFL scouts and GMs saw Broughton right there bursting through the line.  He didn't get the stat but they noticed it.  That's the kind of thing that gets a guy drafted.

Yeah what a load of shit. Led with the shoulder to knock the ball out, did exactly that, and the targeting was thrown.

Good thing they picked it back up that was a rig 12 type of call that has no place in football. You aren’t “defenseless” after you catch a pass and there is no good definition of “forcible contact” but you can just watch his intent and see he wasn’t aiming for the helmet to helmet hit and was just playing defense.

I wonder if we will get any rig 12 officials in the playoffs or if we can just ask for mountain west or what ever. Anyone but those clowns.

Great game and 24 hour trip to college station.  My takeaways:

1.  Tailgate scene was solid.  The one we attended was a great setup and probably 20% Texas fans.   The shocking thing to me was the lack of port a pottys or other restroom options.  Apparently they used to open up Reed arena for that purpose but stopped.    Luckily bladder of steel was in effect and was able to hang on until stadium but it was a mess with that many people tailgating.  I know that can be problem everywhere for busy events but seemed worse.

2.  Ingress/Egress from stadium was a mess.  Felt like you had to walk forever around and through a tunnel just to get to stadium that was right in front of you if there was a direct shot.  Then long ramps to get to even the 100 level endzones (we were in 200). It's certainly not close to Cotton Bowl bad but makes you appreciate our stadium.

3.  Crowd was loud in first half until that 2nd TD drive and that just gutted their fans.  All their noise felt forced after that.  Even when we fucked up in the 2nd half and gave them a chance I don't think any of them really believed they would pull it off.  I think a big chunk of that stadium absolutely felt with certainty they were winning that game until they went down 14-0 and reality set in.  It was great to witness that type of deflation in person.

4.  Quinn was absolute nails in the 2nd quarter.  If we can just put that together for an entire game nobody can beat us.

5.  My wife and I were only Texas fans in our section within probably 4 rows and 15 people either direction. The meltdown from the stands after that targeting overturn was epic.  Pure grown men temper tantrums all around.  F bombs galore, "T.U. ref conspiracy" etc. etc.  It was like a live Texags thread.  Just great.

6.   If you had "at least we'll win halftime" from an Ag in the stands on your bingo card check the box.

7.  Post game Eyes was fantastic.  Not sure how much they showed on TV but team stuck around and soaked it all in. Sark in particular appeared to be loving life.  Of course he watched Day lose 4 in a row earlier so no doubt nice to start the rivalry renewal off with a pretty dominating road win.

8.   Ag fans were fine (to us) before, during and after game.  No issues at all which is consistent with past experience.  It's not Lubbock or Columbus (or from what I hear, Baton Rouge) that's for sure.

9.  I was expecting a mess after game but it was worse than I thought.  Ended up walking to Northgate to grab a drink and wait out uber situation as didn't know what other option we had, but long lines everywhere and basically no cell service at all first hour.   Ended up being a good time after a couple of drinks and just enjoyed the victory.  We actually met Liucci in the flesh at a bar post game.  Nice guy in person and was very complimentary of Sark, the team/roster, etc.

All in all, solid road trip and great time.  Now on to Atlanta next week!

Appreciate the writeup but your thinking the place and people and even Billy Liucci were great is about as surprising as finding out on Texags that some visiting fan appreciated getting directions to the field.

I've come to believe over the years his Texags persona is largely a bit that has made him a shit ton of $$$.  Nothing about meeting him in person really changed that.  I do think he's a true fan for sure and was a bit down, but I didn't get the impression he was surprised at how it played out.  Like I said, was complimentary of Sark, roster he's stacked, what we've done with NIL etc.

We should bribe whoever is necessary to pipe in the Shirley Q Liquor version of the aggy war hymn at 150 dB so nobody on TV can hear their actual band when they play it.

I actually fully understand now why visiting fans are always asking for directions to the field after the walk from the tailgate as I was one of them.   I do think it's funny how you refuse to acknowledge it's an important game (and in particular this particular version of it) yet you have like 500 posts between the pregame thread and game thread this week, but hey man, keep fucking that chicken.  Is this week a big game?  Just let me know if I should be excited about going or not.

If you listened to his OTF interview, it was clear he was expecting an L absent something crazy. I think of Liucci as the A&M version of Nahlin. He’s a just dip shit fan who’s found a way to profit off of other dip shit fans. Respect the grind

I saw it too. I thought that was pretty messed up. Now just imagine if we host the Aggies for Gameday next year and someone holds up a sign that says “Texas A&M Lincoln Log building society needs 12 new members due to 26 year inactivity”. That might cause an actual war with the dog worshippers.

They don't sell Jenga blocks at College Station.

As someone who had one of those in high school, it's not quite as minor as we'd like to believe.

Of course I never had a state of the art medical staff and equipment at my disposal, I think he will be fine next Saturday.

Yeah I got one making a tackle and my arm went number for a minute or two. Craziest thing that had ever happened to me. Scared the heck out of me.

Expect the same or greater level from ga next week….as well as escalation of refuckery

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Sark has a hard on for beating up the aggys. Be it as a coordinator for Bama, a QB for BYU, and now as the head football coach for the University of Texas at Austin Longhorns.

I, too, thought "man I forgot how weird these yokels truly are, it's been a blessing not to have to deal with them for 13 years" in that moment.

I busted out laughing when it came on, loud enough that my wife came out of the kitchen to ask what was so funny.

"They're just showing the dorks," I told her.

Before the game there was a kerfuffle at midfield between a bunch of assistants/staff. Anyone hear anything about that?

A kerfuffle? No, didn’t hear anything of the sort. Nary a word of a fracas either. I do believe there was a mild ruckus postgame at midfield with some youngsters clamoring around the aggy logo.
