"Net yards rushing: Texas 240
A&M 90
That is the stat that most sums up this football game"

One team out-physicaled the other"

So was their an aggy drone show or no?  I assume not since haven't seen them crowing about it all over the intertrons

There was, but aggy mistook "drones" for vibrating butt plugs.

For some reason, possibly the different camera angle, I didn’t notice whole watching live that Arch made such a deliberate move to pop the pylon with his right forearm (not carrying the football). That’s some serious awareness of the situation and rules of the game. It just really impressed me.

Now what would happen, if say...someone wanted to walk right on over there and take a picture in front of the tiny billboard?

Think that would cause any problems?

It is a rule that frankly should be abused a lot more than it is. Players shouldn't be diving at the pylon. They should be diving 2 yards out of bounds with an arm or leg stretching towards the pylon.

They put in the scoreboard because the addition of the Zone seating blocked the view of the scoreboard from the pet cemetery.  I guess the dead dogs can see through their coffins and dirt but not the stadium.

When you explain the idea- “the dead dogs are buried, and they have the mini scoreboard so the dead dogs’ lifeless eyes (rotted away) can see through six feet of dirt and look at the score, and u sweat and the numeracy, despite dogs being incapable of doing math when alive”- it sounds like the dumbest assed thing ever

Correct, this eliminates the possibility of fumbling for a touchback.

You sure?  He got the touchdown because the goal line is extended past the pylon. Seems logical that a fumble would have the same extended goaline and be a touchback. Not going to try to look this one up. No clue how to create a search question with an extended goal line

By definition the runner would have to fumble the ball before it breaks the plane of the goal line extended (or else it would be a touchdown). If the runner is no longer in possession of the ball then the goal line extended no longer exists. So the ball is simply fumbled out of bounds without having entered the end zone.

No. If for instance he had fumbled after being out of bounds (and didn't touch the pylon), the ball would be brought back to the point it crossed the sideline.  The rule is specific about this. The pylon is a separate special rule. The pylon is considered out of bounds. The moment a player touches the pylon, they are out of bounds. However, when they touch the pylon, the goal line also extends beyond the sideline markers just as if their feet were in bounds but the ball was in the outside arm out of bounds. That means that if Arch had touched the pylon BEFORE the ball crossed the plane of the endzone, it would have been a dead ball at wherever the ball was when he touched the pylon. Again, diving at the pylon is actually wrong. You should dive out of bounds and extend a leg or arm horizontally to touch the pylon.

Here is the rile

ARTICLE 1. It is a touchback when:
a.    The ball becomes dead out of bounds behind a goal line, except from an
incomplete forward pass, or becomes dead in the possession of a player on,
above or behind their own goal line and the attacking team is responsible
for the ball being there (Rules 7-2-4-c) (A.R. 7-2-4-I, A.R. 8-6-1-I-III).

above or behind their own goal line and the attacking team is responsible
for the ball being there (Rules 7-2-4-c) (A.R. 7-2-4-I, A.R. 8-6-1-I-III).

Here is the part you need:

Quote

"Rule 4, Section 2, Out of Bounds

ARTICLE 4 Out of Bounds at Forward Point

a If a live ball is declared out of bounds and the ball does not cross a boundary line, it is out of bounds at the ball’s most forward point when it was declared dead (A R 4-2-4-I) (Exception: Rule 8-5-1-a, A R 8-5-1-I)

b A touchdown is scored if the ball is inbounds and has broken the plane of the goal line (Rule 2-12-2) before or simultaneous to the ball carrier going out of bounds

c A receiver who is in the opponent’s end zone and contacting the ground is credited with a completion if they reach over the sideline or end line and catch a legal pass

d The most forward point of the ball when declared out of bounds between the goal lines is the point of forward progress (A R 8-2-1-I and A R 8-51-VII) (Exception: When a ball carrier is airborne as they cross the sideline (including a striding runner), forward progress is determined by the position of the ball as it crosses the sideline (A R 8-2-1-II-III and V-IX)"

And here is the most relevant Approved Ruling:

Quote

How Scored—ARTICLE 1 Approved Ruling 8-2-1

I. Ball carrier A1, while attempting to score, strikes the pylon located on the right intersection of the goal line and sideline with his foot He is carrying the ball in his right arm, which is extended over the sideline RULING: Whether or not a touchdown is scored depends on the forward progress of the ball as related to the goal line when the ball becomes dead by rule (Rules 4-2-4-d and 5-1-3-a)

II. Ball carrier A1, advancing in the field of play, becomes airborne at the two-yard line His first contact with the ground is out of bounds three yards beyond the goal line The ball, in possession of the ball carrier, passes over the pylon RULING: Touchdown (Rule 4-2-4-d)

III. The ball, in possession of airborne ball carrier A21, crosses the sideline above the one-yard line, continues beyond the pylon and is then declared dead out of bounds in possession of A21 RULING: Ball is declared out of bounds at the one-yard line (Rules 2-12-1 and 4-2-4-d)

IV. Quarterback A12 completes a forward pass to a teammate who is standing in Team B’s end zone (a) A12 is beyond the neutral zone when he releases the ball (b) The receiver is wearing uniform number 73 RULING: In (a) and (b) the result of the play is a touchdown The penalty is completed according to Team B’s options

V. Ball carrier A22 dives for the goal line at the B-1 The ball in his possession (a) touches the pylon; (b) goes over the top of the pylon; (c) crosses the goal line inside the pylon A22 then first contacts the ground out of bounds three yards beyond the goal line RULING: (a), (b) and (c) Touchdown in all three The ball in A22’s possession has broken the plane of the goal line in all three scenarios

We seem to be totally forgetting that there was a gap in time where the end had been closed in but the new digital board had not been constructed yet. I heard (maybe someone knows for sure) that during that gap, they had some corps turds out there with a dry erase board updating the score during games for the dead dogs to keep up with the action.

Seems like one of the 35 or so coaches on a typical college coaching staff should be coaching this.

Imagine the bait articles we'll have to deal with all fucking year if we lose to UGA twice but get the 5 seed and run to the title.

This game is going to have a huge impact on how how we feel about the 2024 Longhorns. Win the SEC

That sounds like normal freshman hazing that you could find on any campus.  Well, other than the canine cemetery part...

I, too, endorse this winning idea, though I doubt I'd be bothered by bait articles after a national title.

Exactly, I don't hear many New York Giants fans worried about how they lost to Dallas twice and also New England in the regular season and didn't even win their division in 2007.

Totally true. Saw it for myself. I believe it was the Nebraska/aggy game in 98. Corp turd had a 2 way radio.

The Rangers didn't win their division last year. Did I give a shit?

Nope. Not even a little bit.

Random question, but does anybody know what song this is at the 20:19 mark

I think it was the aggy band playing it a lot throughout the game and it got stuck in my head since

That is Longhorn Band playing a very short arrangement of the main theme from "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" by Ennio Morricone, designed to fit in between plays:

Almost.  The dumbest thing ever is that when they were building "The Zone" and the construction was obstructing the scoreboard view but they hadn't yet erected DeadDogatron they would make freshman corp members sit out there during the game with a radio and update the score on a Tim Russert style chalkboard....for the dead dogs.

Stupid question- if a player dives out of bounds (not on the ground yet) with the ball in his outside arm and his inside foot grazes the pylon before he’s on the ground, is it a touchdown?

If the ball has broken the goal line extended before or at the same time the foot grazes the pylon, then yes it's a TD.

I seem to recall this being true, but whether true or not it is highly probable given that we are talking about aggy.

Yep. I spent an inordinate amount of time this weekend trying to figure this rule out and this seems to be correct. It’s fucking madness, but it’s correct.
