The OTF guys have me worried about the matchup. Gerry says the UGA LB’s are athletic enough to shut down all the perimeter stuff that Sark likes to run early and their interior DL can wreck our outside zone. Plays are there to be had down the field with our WR’s vs their DB’s but those take time to develop and Quinn needs to see them and not be focused on the pass rush.

Seems like pass protection for Quinn is the most important matchup in this game and we have to improve bigly over the performance in Austin.

Yeah we all watched round 1 earlier this season- that’s not really genius level analysis so much as repeating what happened

Another parallel-- the date of that first B12 championship game was December 7th.  The date of this year's SEC championship game is December 7th.

looking for additional ones - we lost the sugar bowl to vt after the 95 season in last year of swc. lost the sugar bowl to washington last year in last year of big 12.

we are one season off from playing the back to back national champs wearing red in the conference champ game. corn won it in 94 and 95 and we beat them in 96. uga won in 21 and 22 so one year off.

we did wear orange in the 1996 big 12 game. wearing orange this week. would be nice if 1996 ricky could dress out.

this one is a bit weak but in 1996, played in an NFL dome for a team competing in what would become an nfc south division team in division with the panthers, falcons, and saints. playing this one in an NFL dome of an nfc south team.

Your sister has an awesome birthday, because it is my birthday as well!

I wasn't trying to make the post about me, but that was a great birthday present for me in 1996.  And it would be a similarly great gift here in 2024. :)

Exactly. It’s like saying “I’m afraid we’ll lose 30-15”.

A little more substantive than that. What concerns me is that they are pointing out structural factors that make UGA a bad matchup for us and will be present no matter how we adjust tactics, as opposed to execution, bad bounces/luck, poor game plan, that can be corrected or improved upon in a rematch.

We’ll see.

Given how poorly they did against Haynes King we should give serious thought to giving Arch significant minutes

great news! we can counter that disadvantage with the downfield threat and press our wr speed and separation advantage over the top with our hyper accurate deep ball game which will back their guys up and open up the ground game and short passing game.

wait.

in all seriousness, it remains a challenging matchup for our offense given their sideline to sideline speed and power. to be successful, it is going to require a consistent version of quinn we have all been clamoring for since michigan but have been denied. once again, here's hoping he suddenly plays a great game start to finish...

This is the correct analysis. Games like this are won by leaders who rise to the occasion. If we win, it's going to be because Quinn, Gunnar Helm, and the other guys who were around two seasons ago step the fuck up.

If we fix the protection issues, which were largely communication issues, that alone drastically changes our performance on offense. Not turning the ball over in our territory would certainly help as well. Given the trends, I'm a little less confident that we can do that.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s part of the Manning Plan for Arch to see him be a wildcat QB running into the line 24 times in a game. But definitely need to work him in more and give him some throw options as well so it’s not obvious when he comes in what’s going to happen.

I also have to think our OL will hold up better in pass pro than they did last time. It really can’t get much worse, and if it improves, at least we won’t be giving them all the short fields from sack fumbles.

Yeah I was being facetious, but that game was really interesting and unique for a few reasons:

1. Penalties that were called, when they were called and when they were not. The UK game had some bad calls. But that game was an outlier of really bad officiating.

2. At the time, we trusted nobody to run the ball between tackles. I think we’ve figured out something there.

3. Both QE and Arch will be looking to move up in the pocket and find running lanes if necessary instead of self sacking by trying to Romo spin out of the back of the pocket. And yes, i expect Arch to get leverage minutes as well.

We’ve still yet to see the Georgia defensive front play as well as they did against us. It did not make sense at the time how they played so much better against us than they had showed and still doesn’t looking at the rest of their season. It seemed like they knew our plays. Then there was a report of a Georgia player saying after the game that they knew what we were running. I was never able to find that so not sure if it’s true or not.

It seemed at the time that we must have been tipping somehow. But then the reports of un-encrypted headsets came out so who knows.

This is all speculation of course, but if they did know our plays somehow this should be a completely different game.

Looks like I heard wrong, glad we're wearing our whites.

Often-wrong CJ Vogel, who showed up to the wrong Houston airport to fly to Meatchicken because he didn't know that Houston has TWO airports, is wrong again.  Lulz.

I mean I love those unis but not sure how I feel about them at a neutral site when we’ve earned the home orange (even if it will feel like a road game).

plus it breaks the “just like the first big 12 championship” coincidences when we wore orange.

We wore white in Dallas last year (obviously the 1 seed then as well).

Georgia also had a bad case of the dropsies on both offense and defense, so they have some return to the average bump comming their way.

Georgia drops more passes than damn near any team I see every time I watch them.  It may just be who they are.

also, the two games that uga lost this year was wearing white jerseys and they wore white in the seccg last year in the loss to bama.

hmm.

that said, almost all of our best memories since 2000 are in all white. 2004 rose bowl, 2005 ohio state, national championship, 2008 ou game, 2011 aggies, 2018 ou, 2018 uga, 2022 and 2024 ou, 2023 big 12 champ game.  unfortunately, white was also loss in 2009 champ game and playoff semifinal loss last year.

orange really only has 2008 fiesta bowl, 2013 ou beatdown, 2015 ou upset. on the other hand, lost the 2018 big 12 champ game in orange. also lost big non con home games in 2006 to osu, 2019 lsu, and 2022 bama. also wore orange in the borderline erotic arkansas texas bowl humiliation.

god the way my brain works is so stupid.

Strength and quickness are important but assignment integrity and discipline are as well. Ga Tech and King ate GA alive with the zone read.

Pretty sure Sarkisian noticed. Ewers offers nothing in this respect but Manning is a different story.

When we beat Georgia twice in the next 2-3 weeks, will we still not have played anyone?

Yup!

They'll claim "JAWJA SUCKS!" only because it was TEXAS who beat them.

That's how the Texas Media-Hate-Machine works these days.

FUCK THEM ALL!

We wore white jerseys when we won the 2005, 2009, and 2023 Big 12 championship games.
