Game Week 14, 2024- Texas v Georgia SEC Championship Game

Georgia was far better in Austin than they have been in any other game this season. Their defense was greatly helped by Ewers getting no help on the ground attack. Wisner had not developed enough to establish the identity of the run game. The lack of RB production let them sit back in a cover 2 shell, helping to disguise coverage and reducing assignment conflict for the LBs

Texas is running the ball much better than earlier in the season. Some of the stunts UGa used pass rushing will get them gashed against what Wisner and the OL have shown us lately. They will have to focus a lot more on gap integrity and run fits. That slows down LB running out to cover the flats, which is something Georgia did effectively in Austin.

As others have pointed out, the Horns defense played well last time out. The D has been quite consistent and is capable of strangling Georgia when not presented with short fields repeatedly. The one area where UGa has improved since the last game is that Beck is protecting the ball better. I see that as an offset to the reduced effectiveness of their running game.

Chalamet just bought the rights to "I Put the Honkey in McConkey: Also Phil is not my Dad" and is set to star as Ladd McConkey based on his memoir.

If he gained a little weight he would be a great casting choice for Stetson Bennet.

Yep. Classic Georgia fan background. I think he called into Finebaum the other day under a pseudonym.

lol, I audited financials for his childhood home, Manhattan Plaza.

FYI, a lot of famous people lived there like including Al Pacino, Alicia Keys, Mickey Rourke, James Earl Jones, Terrence Howard, Donald Faison, and tons more.

It’s a section 8 complex for actors and workers in the theater industry. Lots of millionaires live there now paying market rent.

Team notes from OB

Spoiler

* Kelvin Banks has participated in practice this week, but people behind the scenes are not feeling good about the odds of him playing on Saturday. I was told Banks is dealing with a high ankle sprain and is not close to 100 percent in practice. Banks has received a limited amount of first-team reps this week, followed by treatment on the ankle after practice. It appears that Banks will be a game-time decision.

* Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is fighting through a high ankle sprain, too. However, one person told me the difference between them is that Ewers was able to finish playing against Kentucky after sustaining the injury, while Banks was unable to return after sustaining the injury against Texas A&M.

* We will need to monitor Banks during warmups before Texas plays against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

* Everyone inside the building is optimistic that backup left tackle Trevor Goosby will step up if Banks is unable to play on Saturday. I was told the staff was happy with Goosby’s performance against Texas A&M. In fact, one person told me Goosby received a B+ grade from the staff for his performance against the Aggies. They thought Goosby had a mean streak and met their expectations. If Banks cannot play, Sarkisian and his staff have a lot of confidence in Goosby.

*. Longhorn quarterback Quinn Ewers will fight through a high ankle sprain and another injury on Saturday. I was told Ewers reinjured his oblique last week and has received treatment after practice throughout the week. Ewers will start against Georgia. Nevertheless, the goal is for Ewers to become as healthy as possible between now and Saturday.

* Longhorn receiver DeAndre Moore is still battling turf toe. Moore practiced this week and is expected to play against Georgia.

* The players treated their game against Texas A&M as another SEC contest during practice last week. I was told they were nearly the same this week. There has not been any talk of getting revenge for the loss against Georgia this year. “It has been just about business,” one person told me. “But trust me, they know.”

So, he’ll say Georgia will win because they are better across the pitch than Texas.  And, their 15 run win in the match in Austin is a testament to Georgia’s will to put the puck in the goal?  Hell, maybe the guy is a diehard college football fan for all we know.

I’ve been stress free all week. I really think we win. Georgias not good. Then all of a sudden my anxiety hits, if we lose that means we suck and I’m not ready for that reality.

This teams kryptonite are turnovers, relying on special teams for anything whatsoever, and 7th-8th year senior covid injury QBs.

We've survived the first two for the most part so I feel only a possible (hopeful) match up with oregon in the title game can truly bring my jitters back.

Speaking as someone who has season tickets to Mercedes-Benz Stadium (futbol, not football) I have to grudgingly admit there really is not a lot of room around the field.

However the story should 100% be that uga and the dwags are pussies and scared of Bevo.

Best case, it turns into Katy Perry's iconic Ole Miss picking slot where she brought so much weird off-the-wall energy and earnest enthusiasm that she's now a Rebel icon (helps that they beat Bama and she escaped her handlers to bar crawl around Oxford with the goal posts).

Chalamet isn't an idiot and from what I can tell is pretty normal and affable. I would think he does his homework and comes across as likeable. (assuming he picks Texas - if he picks Georgia I'm starting rumors that he was the mastermind behind the last 5 years of Diddy parties)

I know there's some hard feelings on our side and it's going to be a tough game, but we are winning. Fuck these cabrones from Georgia.

Ain't nothing forgotten with what happened in Austin,  now we get to return the favor.

Hell, they should just have Bob Dylan be the guest picker.  That would be even better and Bob probably actually knows a thing or 2 about football.

Jim Tom Pinch hated that city and so do I. All it was known for by him were twice divorcees and endless traffic jams going from mall to mall.

An ad in the Fort Worth Light & Shopper personals: "Beat me, fuck me...make me write hot checks."

Not sure what that has to do with Atlanta, but that line from The Master's just too fuckin' good to pass up.

My favorite is the opening to Ya Gotta Play Hurt. "Here I am doing three of my favorite things, smoking, drinking, not giving a damn."

That or "Cross Country skiing is not a sport, it is how a Swede gets to the 7-11."

That ‘09 offensive line I’m sure still has nightmares of Suh

We almost rushed for as many yards against aggy as was gained in total for that game.

Haven't seen a team get held to 106 yards of total offense, only 5 first downs, and yet still have 28 minutes of possession again. What a weird game

Yep.

I just remember it having the feeling the entire game of “hurry up and get to the end”.

Like just one of those games where it felt like watching paint dry and the only question the entire game was whether one side or the other would reach the other’s 25/30 yard line and be in FG range because that was the only way anyone was going to score

I've actually seen several aggy Homers somehow claim "Victory" over Texas on signing day based solely on the trenches.  Like it must be a copy point or soemthing.

And like they must not understand Texas is already deep as fuck on the DL and just molly whopped them last week.

They got plenty of talent there, and IF, they are weak at a spot, the Transfer portal is hit by Texas as good as anyone.

Just cause aggy can't get them to come there, doesn't mean Texas can't.

And they have been focusing on the lines, especially DL, since Elko arrived with Jimbo. It hasn't done much for them. They're a second rate program.
