That was so damn enjoyable. The musical portion was a really awesome choice and is part of why I love Ryan Coogler films. Miles Caton made a hell of debut. He joked that he'd like to be Miles Morales in the MCU. The 70mm IMAX showing was great. I haven't seen film like that in so long that the flicker effect took a while to reset in my brain and then I remembered how that used to look. The night time scenes were just so beautiful and vivid. Hats off to Coogler for shooting in IMAX.

I think I’m the only one who didn’t like the movie that much.

there is always one.

Normally it is me.....but not with this one

45 million in its opening weekend. Biggest domestic opening for an original film in a decade.
Going to see it in 70mm IMAX today at 4:05.

Final tally was just over $48M. Good start.

I was talking about the movie this weekend and I think 2 of the 10 people I talked to had even heard of it. To be fair, this is a lillywhite private school group, so they’re not scouring movie boards and podcasts, but pretty disappointing. When I told them about it, they were all really interested. It’s just crazy to me how outside of the day to day conversations movies have gotten.

I think word of mouth is really going to help as well as large format screenings. It also is a movie that's highly rewatchable. I want to see if it now in digital to compare how it is to the film version. I also want to watch that music sequence again.

My wife brought up an interesting point. Was this the first vampire movie where they wanted to make each other vampires because they genuinely loved each other and wanted to be together as a family and were visibly sad when it didn't happen? The part where Smoke stakes Annie after she's bit, Stack and Mary both cry out and not in a you killed a vampire way that other movies do. They weren't just your typical cartoon vampires. It was more because they really wanted the 4 of them to be together as a family forever. Plus, Coogler gets points again for making a villain where you kind of have to give him credit for his motivation. Remmick's point about no longer being screwed over by white society was pretty strong. Glad Delroy Lindo got another chance to shine on the big screen.

Really enjoyed the movie.... I've been thinking about elements of it for the entire day (just watched it last night).

I described it to someone today as an Amazing, A+, hour and forty five minute movie with about 35 minutes of several other good (but lesser) movies interspersed throughout. Those other elements/scenes were good, and may have been a part of a really great movies too, but they felt out of place within this larger story.

Amazing soundtrack. Best movie I've seen this year. But could have been tighter/better.

Saw it last night, liked it. Thought it lost steam towards the end instead of picking it up

Fun fact: Steinfelds real life grandpa actually was half-black, just like her character in the movie

Slated to do 45 million this weekend which is only a 5% drop. Already has made 161 million worldwide. This is what we need, my dudes. This is what helps original movies get made.

Just went. Went in not really knowing anything other than the trailers and my boss saying he and his wife went and they liked it. Didn't know MBJ was playing twins. Didn't know it was about vampires.

I think that's an instant classic. I liked Creed fine. Not really a Black Panther fan. Never saw Judas and the Black Messiah.

This is a completely different level of film-making and I think @mdmost is hitting it on the head. It reminded me of 90s/00s Tarantino/Guy Ritchie stuff. Beautifully shot, written, acted, scored and exceedingly original and unpredictable. Just a total fucking joy to watch.

That's a 3rd Oscar for Goransson barring something wacky and MBJ will have a shot at his own I think (I guess for supporting? Hard to sus that out).

Also feel like this notches MBJ up a stardom level. I mean he was already an A-lister but this just felt a little different. Like he's entering that Stallone/Arnold/Bruce Willis tier.

Same.  Also whoever said they prefer bumblebee steinfeld to this iteration is wrong.

Well I didn't say that because I hadn't seen this film yet.

Definitely a big fan of 90s vampire Hailee Steinfeld. Maybe we need a sequel.

Just got home from Alamo. It was great. Solid 'A'.

When they hung up the Juke Joint sign over the door I got crazy "Dusk til Dawn" vibes.

I got very skittish when they started the music scene for some reason, was instantly worried this movie was about to go off the rails. (Kinda like "Sorry to Bother You", which was also great social/cultural commentary until Act 2 started.) But after about 30 seconds I started to love it. Great scene. I think the hip hop pulled me in.

Michael B. Jordan did his thing. I'm impressed. Dude's a star.

Surprised at the 3 or 4 LOL moments. Starting with them cutting to Stack in the car telling Sam how to put pressure like on an ice cream cone.

Thought it was cool to catch Smoke's girl, who had taken a verbal jab earlier in the movie about doing her "Louisiana shit" voodoo, but at Smoke's final scene she busted out the Louisiana accent. Not sure how I missed it earlier but when she said Smoke could "hooolllld" the baby I caught that New Orleans.
