When is that? Ever shot suppressed? Unless you’re shooting small-caliber subsonic round, it’s still a loud bang.

The sound is so much different with as little as a 9mm. It’s such a different feeling. That said, there are videos of other public shootings where the person is just as calm without a suppressor and without being a pro.

Wow. Ex special forces...what an insult. Lulz.

Very little special forces training involves prepping to gun people down on city streets and flee via bicycle. When Mossad whacks people in places where they really don’t want to get caught they use teams of a dozen people with fake passports, governments solve things with lots of people and lots of money.  There is not a stable of super badass former MI6 assassins out there waiting for clients to buzz their encrypted phones. Consulting pays so much more and you don’t go to jail.  Contract killers are just criminals who don’t have other options and usually get caught.

Agree that the video is not totally clear, but if you watching the racking motion in the video and compare it to the motion used in the youtube video on the B&T, it is virtually identical. He tilts it and racks it every time he shoots it. Could be failure to cycle an autoloader based on using subsonic rounds, but the racking motion would generally be different. I think that Brian got it right earlier. We'll find out eventually.

Also, most SA pistols would have more effective extractors than what is apparently provided with the B&T.  No need to tilt.

In very much related news, Anthem announced today that they will stop paying for anesthesia if a procedure goes over planned time.

Oh the 3 anesthesiologists in the country that were in network with BCBS just sent them term letters

Why was the shooter wearing a backpack and what was in it?

I would guess maybe a change of clothes and or a backup weapon.

I'll tell you what he should have had, a bottle of water or starbucks canned coffee so he didn't walk in there and put himself on camera.

I was about 6 blocks down 6th ave when this happened, walking back to my hotel. Quite a morning in the city.

Also: Wyden-Bennett, you motherfuckers.

Midtown completely normal this afternoon. Went to a happy hour 3 blocks away and wouldn’t have had a clue something went down earlier in the day.

I texted my buddy who lives on Central Park South, and he said there isn’t even a noticeable police presence around the park. I guess they just haven’t publicly disclosed the latest leads.

I didn't make it into my office at 6th and 46th until about 8:30, but my phone had already lit up with texts about it.

Police presence was higher around Rockefeller Center today due to the tree lighting.

That was the patsy. Poor guy was probably just mindlessly riding his citi bike to work until Jason Bourne gave him the classic explosive leash.

If the CEO of a multibillion dollar company is gunned down and public sentiment is akin to the Jerry Seinfeld “that’s a shame” gif, maybe that multibillion dollar company should consider just how terrible they have been for society. They won’t, but they should.

its remarkable honestly. My FB feed, which I curated to be just meme pages, is all over this. And the sentiment in the comments is exactly this. I haven't seen one person offended by it. unreal

It really is stunning. No matter the site/venue, there really aren’t “dissenting” opinions. All are variations of Seinfeld “that’s a shame” and such. You rarely see such unanimity about…anything. Especially a dude getting murdered. Chris Rock “I ain’t saying it’s right, but u understand” is about as strong a condemnation as you get.

2 things -

He and his wife were living in separate houses

How the hell did local Nederland crackpot Philip Klein get inserted into this WSJ story? His firm had previously provided private security services to Thompson.

I think it's mostly just New Yorkers being New Yorkers. Life goes on.

I’ll be honest. I do not wish violence or death upon people, but this man enriched himself at the expense of millions of Americans. Millions of people whose lives and those of their loved ones were forever altered by UHC and their ilk not stepping up to help those in their time of need because profit mattered more.

I think the best way to treat this man’s death is to just ignore that he ever existed and if they ever find the culprit, well, fine. If not, well, that’s fine too. I’d have NYPD spend the same amount of time investigating this as they would a street mugging.

It’s not. I haven’t seen anyone really admonish this. Everyone is just interested in who did it. I haven’t seen anyone give a shit about this guy as a person. The overall response has been “that’s horrible, they should try to find that guy…but I get.”

They didn't shut down a city of 20 million people because some asshole got shot?

So the brass was left behind. Deny, Depose, Defend written on them.

Well, you have 32% of claims filed that were denied. Start going down the list! If only you denied 10%, it would be a much shorter list and maybe he would still be alive.

I wonder if the part of the suspect's face that is visible is enough for facial recognition software. I also wonder if there is a database out there with all the state's driver's license photos that they have access to. Possibly gain access to Iphone/Samsung facial recognition database.

If anyone is cheering this guys death, they should most likely also be happy if their bosses at work are murdered for the same reason. If you work at a large employer, your employer is the one indirectly turning down any claim. They assume the financial risk not the ins company. The ins company is only handling the admin work for a fee.

Ask your ceo about the percentage of employee claims that are denied? Zero chance that he will want to discuss that or get back to you. They hide behind the insurance companies.

Are you arguing that suppressors should be … even more controlled? Or illegal? At the end of the day, they’re century-old dirt-simple devices, especially when they only need to work well for a few shots. Way too many red blooded American felons have gone to prison because they knew how to machine a tube with some threads and install washers/baffles.

Good!

This is going to sound bad, because it probably is.  I watched a documentary recently on AI and facial recognition.  It showed China has the most advanced public facial recognition systems and they could pull up recognition at a very high rate within 1 second.

I'm guessing if the systems can differentiate the Chinese, they can figure out this slim shady.

Remember if you are one in a million in China, there are a thousand others just like you.

It's Midtown Manhattan. He's on about 10,000+ cameras

Nailed it. It seems like a lot of people don’t understand this.

I actually looked it up and I'm shocked to see how many large orgs are self-insured. Had no idea that was the case working in the small business realm for 15 years.
