LOL. People are FAFO'ing. It'll be interesting the next time it's not an idle threat. I almost feel bad for her. Her pic says, "I can't even comprehend the ways that I fucked up!"

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — A Lakeland woman was charged Tuesday after police said she ended a call to an insurance company with the words, “Delay, Deny, Depose.”

In an arrest affidavit, the Lakeland Police Department said officers were contacted by the FBI on Tuesday, Dec. 10 regarding an alleged threat made over the phone.

Briana Boston, 42, had reportedly placed a call to BlueCross BlueShield regarding recent medical insurance claims she was denied. The entire phone call was recorded, according to the affidavit.

Near the end of the call, investigators said Boston could be heard stating, “Delay, Deny, Depose. You people are next.” The first three words are similar to those written on the ammunition that a gunman used in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last week.

Police made contact with Boston at her home in Lakeland, where she reportedly admitted to using those words during the call, telling detectives that “healthcare companies played games and deserved karma from the world because they are evil.”

Boston reportedly told detectives she used the phrase “because it’s what is in the news right now,” and that she had learned of the phrase due to the UnitedHealthcare homicide.

However, Boston added that she does not own any firearms and “was not a danger to anyone,” police said.

When the punishment for a crime is a fine, it's legalizing crime for rich people/entities.

Remember when TD Bank (and some others too I think) laundered drug money for the cartels?  They literally changed the cashier's windows to be able to fit the duffel bags full of cash the cartels were bringing them.  That's how much money they were washing for these murderous psychos.  Fined $3 Billion.  Which was like one day of revenue for them or some shit.

The people at these corporations have completely subverted the social contract for profits.  If the government/law isn't willing to bring them to heel, it's no surprise that the citizenry will be ok with regular people doing it themselves.

Yea my company was fined 48 million by the FTC and everyone was freaking out. All I heard in the board meetings was we are fine we accounted for this we just wanted the lawsuit out of the news.

how on earth is that a crime?  mere threats can't be a crime under the 1st amendment, right?  doesn't it have to be paired with some sort of reasonably immediate ability to carry it out or something?

This. And while the charges might eventually get dropped, she was arrested, had to pay for a lawyer, and had her shit put on blast in the news to try and deter any other filthy poor from speaking ill of their corporate overlords.

It's pretty much always up to their discretion which is hilarious in itself. The only time I've ever been arrested, in my early 20s, I got hauled in and kept overnight for the words "I have started carrying". I sent it [e: in a text message] to my very recently ex-stepmother after she threatened to break into my apartment to recoup some debt she thought she was owed. I didn't threaten to harm her, nor did I even explicitly use the word gun. Nonetheless, because she was wealthy and well-connected in town, I had cops banging on my door at 3AM and putting me in cuffs for "terroristic threats".

You should have gone with "BTW, I'm packing."

It allows for a defense of non-threatening sexual overtones.

It was Merck that got sued over a faulty drug, but in the discovery this exact statement was made.  I want to say it was Vioxx?  Where they knew early on it was going to mess people up, but the profits from the drug would outweigh the penalties.  They ran with it, tens of thousands of people died, they got sued, but yes, the profits did in fact outweigh the lawsuit amounts.

Vioxx was a great drug for the appropriate patient. It was equivalent or superior to morphine for acute pain and great for inflammation

It wasn’t appropriate for people with certain risk factors wrt cardiovascular disease. Merck had trials that indicated it might be dangerous for such patients but nothing definitive so they tried to hide it. Once it was used widely these risks became clear. They killed tens of thousands but also deprived millions of a safe and effective pain relief option.

When I did my stretch (24 hrs) in the pen (Scottsdale Via Linda Jail), my cellmate was in for telling the girl from the bank, who called to inform him he was being foreclosed on, that he was going to drive down there and kill her.  He got 48 hrs.  He’s not on the Christmas card list.

Pretty sure I'd take acute pain and inflammation over death.  I kid, but what was so damning was they they knew pretty quickly how dangerous it was, but they offset this obvious moral hazard with how insanely profitable it was as well, and then were stupid enough to put that down on paper.

The greater problem here is that capitalism has run amok. It has created a massive wealth divide in this country that is only getting worse and creates countless problems that disrupt and destabilize society. We can’t even have fair elections because Elon will threaten to primary anyone who threatens his fragile ego.

The specific problem here is that capitalism has invaded healthcare. It’s impossible to ethically provide healthcare to the masses when you have a few multi-billion dollar companies who get to decide what degree of care is provided, and those companies are driven by profits and a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders, as well as the greed of their own executives.

Brian Thompson and Luigi Mangione are just symptoms of the system America has developed over decades. It’s less surprising that it happened and more surprising that it doesn’t happen more often. I don’t know what the fix is. There probably isn’t one. Maybe these are the problems that eventually reach a tipping point and result in a social uprising.

I’m not happy about any murders but I’ll save my tears for school shooting victims and let other people worry about CEOs.

We've gone from "Too big to fail" to "Too big to care about any sort of monetary punishment the government can levy"

Corporations have been putting the boot to the little man for decades now. People are starting to get pissed and fight back.

This. She's not making a threat, she is reiterating the fucking playbook of the industry, which is the title of a book. This is just another way of how the corporations use our government entities to keep the man down.

I know your comment is in jest, but the only (AFAIK) publicly traded ski resort, Vail Resorts, reports net income in the low hundred millions by providing entirely optional recreational activities.  UNH reports net income of around 20 billion on providing (or not) healthcare insurance.

I wish we could all be honest about how health care is just a hard fucking problem to tackle rather than saying that a particular system is completely broken while another system has got its shit in one sock.

Despite general displeasure with the US healthcare system, 71% of Americans are happy with the quality of their personal care.

Despite general support of the UK's NHS, only 24% of UK public are satisfied with the care provided by NHS, with 71% saying the number one dissatisfier is wait times for care.

The US healthcare system is expensive and by some measures less effective* than other country's systems, but no other country's system comes close to producing the level of consistent investment and advancement in medical innovation/technology seen in the US system.

All systems have trade-offs, and anyone telling you otherwise is only trying to win an election.

*Poor health outcomes in the US are more attributable to lifestyle choices (diet, transportation, gun culture) than the quality of care provided by the system
