I’ve been to that theater(Tyson’s) in DC. That’s one of the busiest movie theaters in the metro area and I dare say the mid Atlantic. Sometimes you have to book weeks in advance for a screening. This tells you how bad Snow White truly is when it’s prime time showing for families on a Saturday night and literally NOBODY bought a ticket.

Budget was $250 million to make. Only made $43 million in the box office. This is one of the worst Disney flops in history. Worse than the Black Cauldron in 1985 which almost cause the Disney animation studio to go bankrupt.

They should remake Black Cauldron.

Why the cauldron have to be black? Maybe make it a White Cauldron once in awhile?

I would welcome it. They could use everything they scrapped in the original production. If they had kept everything in, then the black cauldron would’ve been a rated R movie.

I admit I didn’t see it passing up Mama Mia, but here we are

And now it’s finally streaming, so the rentals are probably over (who the fuck pays $20 to rent something for three days when it’ll be on streaming a few months later).

Shit, Wicked Part 2 will do even better,

Those were good and also I liked the Jungle Book remake.

I didn't know they remade that.  I didn't like the original.  Something about Mogli creeped me out. Little Mermaid remake was awful.  Wife couldn't make it more than half an hour in and she watches everything.  I lasted much less than that.

Someone is watching, it made 40+ million in weekend box office.  I get that it's a flop because of the budget, but to say this super busy theatre is empty because of how bad Snow White sucks doesn't make any sense.  What are all the people who aren't watching Snow White seeing at this super busy theatre?  Because this movie still has 10x the numbers of any other movie.

Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast remakes were good.  Mulan wasnt.

Agreed.  As was Cinderella and Maleficent(even if a completely different take).

And as much shit as Little Mermaid got(casting deserved it) it actually turned out to be a not horrible movie itself.

I think he's saying that one room showing Snow White is empty, not all the other room with other movies.  When i go online to book a seat, I'm just booking for that particular movie I want to watch.  Unless I'm not understanding the question?

My point is Snow White led the weekend box office by a large margin.  Yes it's a flop, but people are still seeing it way more than any other movie out right now.  If the room showing Snow White is dead, then there is nobody at the theatre, and haven't been for weeks because a 40 million weekend probably hasn't happened since Captain America (another flop).  So the theatre in question isn't super busy or the tweet is bullshit.

Haven't been to a movie in a while, but what else is out right now that it's competing with?  Looking online from the 24th releases, and movies out the same number of days (3), I see The Alto Knights, Ash, Magazine Dreams, & Bob Trevino like it.  Never heard of any of them.

I also see Snow White was released in 4200 theatres - a significantly higher number than any other release.  Sure it made more than the others, but it's falling so short of where it needs to be to ever remotely break even, let along make any money.

That's my point.  There isn't anything out right now, 2nd place earned nothing.  If a movie theatre was crowded this weekend, it's because people saw Snow White, because it's the only movie with significant earnings.  Not enough for Disney to not take a major hit though.  I am disputing the fact that a crowded theatre had an empty Snow White viewing.

Seems like it was a dead weekend minus SW, and even that vastly underperformed

100% this.

My wife and I see the most lame, boring movies for the best seats and just to eat dinner sometimes and the movie is an afterthought, and even then there is consistently 4-5 people every single time.

Not sure what people are watching, but I am damn sure people aren't watching that steaming piece of crap staring the two DeNiro's.

Saw it at alamo last Friday and the place was packed.  Not sure the movie warrants a controversy.  It's a pretty generic retelling of a Disney classic, with some upgrades to the princess role which were postive.  People got nothing better to do than argue about a movie they haven't even seen.

Ok, but you better not CGI that cauldron, and take away good roles from the cauldron people.

A cauldron is another word for melting pot.  An appropriate remake would be the black lives matter salad bowl.

We really enjoyed Aladdin as well.

I know it’s controversial because of nostalgia, Robin Williams beatification, and Will Smith being a cuck and the slap heard ‘round the world, but an argument could be made his rendition of the genie is the best one.

I get these reworks of earlier films - it's a lot of money to bet on the unknown, but at the same time the audience has a body of work to compare against.  You are already up against the incumbent that was good enough to warrant a remake.  I honestly can't remember, but how many other than the beforementioned Aladdin were even as good if not better than the original?

The tradeoff is you actually have to make something original that people want to see - and the streaming services have that in spades.

We are watching the Wheel of Fortune and reruns of Midsomer Murders.

Edited to add: We have never streamed anything on our smartass TV, nor paid extra to watch a “+” program.

I don't think Alladin was close to as good as the original, but it was good.  I was on record saying the live action Little Mermaid wasn't bad either(not as good as the cartoon)

Beauty and the Beast was absolutely on par with the original IMO...and Maleficent(which wasn't really a direct remake of Sleeping Beauty, but a retelling)

I can't stand people throwing "free speech" around as if they won some argument.  They look like idiots.  As Zegler is an employee, that Exec had every right to tell her to shut the fuck up.  You can argue whether he should or not, but he certainly has the right to do it.  If he did it to Zegler, I hope he did the same to Gal Gadot.

I generally agree with her stances, but I may have done the same thing in order to save the movie I produced.  That said, I don't think her outspokenness had a ton to do with the movie's underperformance.  It probably hurt some and added to the chaotic narrative of the movie, but making a good movie should have been the producer's focus and not shutting down press after the fact.
