A year ago, you probably could have walked into the football offices and been given a job on staff at ASU and they would have been happy with a body… now they are going to the playoff and will have to be worried about poaching of coaches and players

3 years ago to this day, I toured the stadium and football complex. I kinda tried, but I wasn't gonna be able to take the pay cut to get in.

Ewers looked pretty nervous on the walk they showed.

He always looks like he’s about to cry

I don’t think the nerves are his problem though. He seems to shake off mistakes easily.

Maybe he’s trying to over think things or just not make mistakes that gets him.

Need to play this game loose like we are up by 14 or down by 14 from the very beginning.

It was, QB turned into him. Rewatch it.

Ha what are you looking at? His face stayed straight forward lined up with his spine. He didn't lower his head but he certainly didn't turn his head to the side. And then he literally kept his helmet against Becht's facemask as he drove him into the ground.

And yet he is right back in the game, imagine that.

Does Dillingham stay long term at ASU or jump to a better job? The ASU alum is 34 and has coached for Norvell and Lanning.

Did you see the profile they did on him this morning on Gameday? He is an ASU super fan who dreamed of being their coach his entire life. ASU struck gold in him. He is not going anywhere.

When he initiates tackle (not contact, but the point where he knows he has QB zeroed) QB is looking left like he is going to turn and throw. QB drops ball shoulder and catches blitz from periphery. At that point there is no defender in the world who could have avoided that collision.

When I see it, I see a DB who thought he was going to have a sack fumble opp.

If QB finishes his read and attempt to throw left, he probably gets a dislocated shoulder.

Of course the actual result is a targeting, but that is not how it started.

certainly short term but at some point he has to make sure they will fund NIL so he can get players.

And then he did the "firing pistol shots into the dead body" gesture afterward.

if the QB doesn't turn his head the DB's helmet still hits him above the head/neck area and probably earholes him.  I think he launched too.  the facemask on Becht went down so he didn't get the "uppercut" effect and head snapping you normally see that knocks guys out or really loopy.

It was kind of a delayed launch but yeah. That actually makes it a little worse because he only launched after Becht had turned and it was now going to be contact through Becht's head. I agree with Slacks that the defender wasn't intending to hit him in the head as he was running in but it was 100% targeting. The defender's actions after Becht turned were all bad. He launched, then he drove him into the ground while making sure Becht's head slammed into the turf by keeping his helmet against Becht's facemask.

It looked like the defender lowered his head to me. That is dangerous to both players. I saw forceful contact above the shoulders. They did not incidentally brush face masks as on the no-call that so infuriated the Aggies. To me it was not a close call. Whether the QB moves his head a little does not justify, excuse, or mitigate a lowered-helmet approach high on a defenseless player.

to be honest I'm shocked the Big 12 called it, but then again it wasn't Sam Ehlinger in the pocket.

It was absolutely targeting. yes he was trying to plant his facemask in the QB's chest like we were all taught for decades.  unfortunately you can't do that anymore or you risk your helmet hitting the helmet of a defenseless player.  Thanks Will Smith!!
