Duke's Divinity School also remains heavily tied to the UMC.

However, Duke and USC renounced affiliation with the church long ago and I don't believe were ever actually "controlled" by the UMC, as has been SMU, especially not USC.

Correct but once again they also pump out a lot of Methodist ministers. One of my favorite theologians Will Willimon was a professor and dean at Duke University. The UMC unlike other religious organizations doesn't manhandle universities like institutions named Baylor.

What is your "gotcha" attempt here?

Yeah I'm sure that SMU hands out theological degrees. We actually have a fucking beautiful chapel and church and a great library that's awesome to study at. That's called being inclusive and having principles. It's an institution founded on principles and we uphold that.

Send your kid to SMU they're just as likely to come back Jewish as they are to adopt some lunatic Christian philosophy.

The undergrad curriculum and experience is not religious at all.

Expand

You got a little silly being defensive that SMU isn’t religious. It’s a private school with a theology component. It’s not BYU, Notre Dame or Liberty level, but it’s nothing to be ashamed of to say it has historically been backed by a church.

Uh, my point is secular universities don't hand out degrees about God.

No Gotcha but you are a well known dumb fuck so there is that.

You should probably just post on the SMU forums if one exists, you fucking coat-tail rider.

Geez, man, take a deep breath. I wasn’t shitting on your school. SMU has a school of theology and grants degrees in religion. That’s religious. I’m not shitting on that at all. It’s just what it is.

Hailing from North Dallas, I agree  that  SMU is not really a religious school, It's more a drunken rich frat boy school that used to have some really obnoxious fans especially during the Mustang Mania days, IMHO, they live in a bubble over in the Park Cities.  It was really unbearable during the Mustang Mania days when they were obviously cheating and the local press did not seem to care. With that said, I have to give the Mustangs their due tonight. They fought hard all night against a very bad start. Yes, they should be a playoff team.

do people not understand the difference between schools, colleges and universities?

pretty sure Harvard hands out degrees about God. as does Yale. nobody is going to think of them as not being secular universities

Honestly I'm glad sometimes that I don't have a degree from y'all's incredibly pretentious institution.

You talk aimless, baseless shit about another institution within the state. You call us shit that we aren't. You insult me. Then you get defensive.

Honestly go fuck yourself. It's an amazing state full of amazing people and not all of us need a degree from Texas.

Fucking SMU fans are the worst.

I choose the name F250 years ago because I had just bought an F250 to haul a loaded 5 horse trailer around the hill country.

When I was there, you were required to take one class on religion as part of the common core.  I took Intro to the New Testament and figured it would be easy as hell given all the church I had been forced to attend growing up.  I failed the first test and worked my ass off to pull a C IIRC.  It was basically a history class disguised as a religion class.

I took a world religions class in undergrad that required more reading and studying than any other classes I took not named calculus.
