Wut, lol? We lost because of any combination of missed FGs, not even looking to block on what shoulda been a pick 6, not recovering a fumble, not protecting the QB, not running the ball, dropped pass, bad offensive play calling, stupid penalties (one of which negated a FG btw), not reacting to a fake punt right after their punter gets hurt,  etc, etc.

You can't put it all on the FG team with all that other shit happening.

thats what I meant. if we hit the 2 miss field goals we win. if we are better at everything you said, we blow them out.

I guess I’m just biased. But I still leave that game thinking Texas is the better team. UGA didn’t win. We found new, creative ways to lose.

we aren't the better team but there is no reason to think any game with them is not a coin flip.  we've played them basically even the last 6 quarters and that was an away game for us.  PK made a mistake not loading up on the run IMO.  make the guy beat you in the air.  their WR's are kinda meh.  Sark needs to trust Manning in the red zone.

There is no reason for any Texas fan to believe we’re the better team than Georgia. Especially considering how they’ve worked our offense in both games.

Ewers is a disaster in the red zone but we move the ball on them.  I'm ready to line up with Georgia any time.  we just took them to OT.  Any game that doesn't have us giving them 40 yard fields to score is a coin flip.  Ou D absolutely crushed them in the 1st half and was fine against them the 2H of the first game.

I hope that doesn't cost Barron the Thorpe award.  That was going to be an easy pick 6.  It would have been the perfect exclamation point for his case, especially since it probably would have won the conference championship.

I wanted this one really badly and it hurts not to get it. Red zone last year and red zone again and we can’t get the TD needed to win the game in regulation.

I just feel like Sark does to much eye candy and long developed plays in the red-zone which doesn’t make a lot of sense with holes getting tighter and the defense not having to worry about anything deep.
Sark needs to keep it simple, Instead of out scheming himself

When the refs want a team to win,  it is pretty difficult to overcome that without perfect a performance.  This game was basically a WWF match. The outcome was predecided.   Once you realize that it is much easier to digest.

I don’t think the refs kept Arch on the sideline all game but for one play but your right they didn’t call obvious penalties on Georgia which fucked Texas.

Sark needs to let our Receivers eat. Screens are cool but we killed Georgia on the short game. Slants, Comebacks, Stops. We have WR they can run after catch so why not put them in position to do that?!???

once we get them biting on the short stuff that opens up the deep passes and double moves he loves so much. Sark is so hellbent on being deceptive and schematical he out schemes himself. Rod Barbers said this awhile back, keep doin it until they stop it. Georgia does it to us, so we can do it to them??  Jesus Sark keep it simple stupid (Kiss)

smh so frustrating  cause that game was winnable and we let it get away

So I guess by pointing, instead of doing his own job, #3 wanted to make sure that the guy who just intercepted the ball knew how to do his... that is to run toward the opponent's goal line. (I guess everyone knows by now the path to the end zone was clear except for one tackler, who was eminently blockable). Truly heartbreaaking.

It's a coachable moment, I suppose... about focus and reaction time. The moment something "unexpected" happens, every player on the field has to immediately reccognize that their job just changed from attacker to blocker, and they must immediately move to take care of it. The pick six woulda been a remarkable moment on our path to a championship.

I guess Sark has to pick up the pieces. Is he capable of making the tough decisions ahead? He had seven weeks of "in your face" data on our second half offensive production and still couldn't pull the trigger. An easy one to pull actually. He doesn't have to replace Quinn, he needs to get Arch into the offense immediately, and I don't mean one play ever couple of series. Give him his own series. The cream will rise.

Let Quinn rest and reflect on the sideline. Maybe Quinn will hone his killer instinct a bit. He's too, for lack of a better word, emotional. He sees an open receiver and too often something clicks in his brain and instead of firing the ball, he lofts it. Maybe it's a lack of confidence - he's afraid of making a mistake. He doesn't step into the throw. Mechanics.

Maybe we don’t DESERVE to be in the CFP.  At least the Texas Longhorns are IN the motherfucker.  And if you’re IN IT you can WIN IT. Now, say ten Hail Marys, my sons. Go forth and sin no more.  11:00 will be here soon.  The Bama weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth will be loud and long.  The sidewalk fan chorus to THOW OUT THAT YANKEE DA BOWAH will begin anew.  Well, as my Yankee childhood friends used to chant, “Damn, damn, damn-shit fadiddlehopper!”  Wait’ll next year.  I hope I’m wrong.😑

Quinn throws off his back foot 90+% of the time. His elite arm talent allowed him to thrive in spite of poor mechanics in high school and against poor college defenses. Sark and offensive staff probably should’ve worked on this the past 3 years to make him better for Texas and his draft stock. When he’s under pressure from a rush, dealing with an injury, and/or in a high pressure situation, it gets magnified and he floats balls.

This, we have playmakers at WR, the slow developing cute shit does not work against teams that can match us athletically.

So I’m finally sober enough to understand the answer if anyone has one…

How the fuck did Taaffe not recover that fumble and did we ever see that he didn’t?

He didn't, the way the ball came out with nothing but white jerseys in the vicinity I assumed he rolled over on it. NO red jerseys were anywhere in sight until that guy came flying in.

One of those slow developing red zone plays - fake flare pass I think - left a WR wide open for a TD but the pocket collapsed for a sack before Quinn could get the ball out.

There were SO many plays that if just one went our way. Reminds me of when sark was trying to get this program just to win the close ones.

This program is so close, all that is left is winning the championship games. It’ll happen. It was Alabama, then Georgia, Texas is next.

agreed. 2-3 fakeouts while the UGA defense stacked with future pros are already in the backfield never seems to work. Might work vs UTEP tho

You are right.  The refs didn’t make the stupid coaching decisions.  Like I said, refs can make it much much tougher to win (not impossible) and we have to play/coach flawlessly to pull it off when they put their thimb in the scale like they did in the first half.

It is real simple.  This is a multibillion dollar industry run by millionaires/billionaires where decisions are made to maximize profits, like every other industry. Even just a few percentage point advantage for a certain outcome makes a big difference (see Vegas).  SEC wanted maximum of their teams in the playoffs and they were going to help that happen. Have seen the same shit with other teams (GA-GA Tech and VT-Miami) in different conferences all year.  Until we get the ref crews to be independent, truly uninterested in the outcome and not run by conferences this will keep happening.  Maybe now that SEC got what it wanted, we don’t have to have this as a factor till next year.

Many years ago, we all had to endure bama and lsu play each other playing again as the “game of the century” because 9-6 is good smash mouth football. Th blueprint was always right there. This is what aggy meant when they said we weren’t ready for the sec. Our kicking game is not sec ready.

At least we’re not still missing PATs like in the strong era.

I’ve let the emotions ebb, slept off the alcohol and am able to think more rationally about last nights performance.

Annnnd it just makes me want to drink it all away again. The most maddening thing to me is the lack of execution, focus, discipline and poise in a championship game.  Up and down the roster and the staff.  Dropped balls, watching tipped balls be intercepted, being beat for loose balls, false starts to kill drives, lining up in the neutral zone or jumping offsides, the red zone play calling and execution, the passes that should have never been thrown, the missed free throw field goals, celebrating an int vs taking it to the house to seal the game.

And it’s made worse by the fact that we are so fucking talented that we can do all that and still almost win.  What a sad waste of opportunity.  Here’s to it being a wake-up call for the staff and players to fix that shit, but fuck, I wouldn’t bet on any sort of playoff run from this team.

IDK man never gonna get easier than it was this season.

True but going off trajectory with recruiting and portal use, we will get there personnel wise. Although I think Sark is stubborn and gets in his on way, he can still build a roster.

You described pretty much every head coach in history. They are all stubborn and all do things their way. That’s how they get to the point they do.

Not necessarily!! Saban was stubborn, but admitted when moves needed to be made and made them.
right?? Saban Moved to an open offense once he seen his run heavy style wasn’t winning games or recruits. Saban also made one of the most badass calls pulling his Season starting QB for a freshman in the National championship

Sark stil hasn’t shown the ability to do that. Thus my point.

Our redzone offense is good thIs year. Ewers just has trouble finishing, and there is only so much scheming you can do around that. We weren't getting push in the run game, and Sark's achilles heel seems to be ultra athletic linebackers. Their guys were able to shut down the perimeter game and tackle in space. Not much more complicated than that.

If thats the case why not go to the QB run game with Arch?? We did it one time and got 6 yards. Add the extra blocker and do what you can, and if they stack the box let’s not forget Arch is a manning so he can definitely throw the ball. All that trick handoff shit is doing nothing but giving Georgia’s already monster D-Line time to get in our backfield and either get a sack or hold call cause our offensive line has to hold on for dear life

With the strength of Ewers  arm and the fact that he never sets his feet when he throws anyway I'll always wonder if he could have thrown that ball but he fucking froze.

Absolutely stunning how mentally unprepared the offense was for a conference championship game

This absolutely reflects the the emotions of the head coach.  They were nervous because the coach was nervous.  Reflected in the terrible playcalling and red zone failures, the special teams fails. The team wasn’t mentally prepared for this stage. Kirby won this game with better coaching.

I didn't really care about a bye, because I think Texas needs to play every week to play with any sharpness.  I would hope the Horns can put some teams away, rather than continue their trend of shooting themselves in the foot with offsides calls, dropped passes and holding the ball too long.   It's too much to hope Auburn becomes a better kicker--I'm at the point where I wonder if Sark shouldn't just go for it on 4th when it's a fg try of any distance.  I still can't believe Texas didn't even faux rush the Georgia punter, but it is what it is--somebody got out coached on that particular play.  Also work with fat ass Cam on snap counts so he doesn't continue to jump offsides in every single game.
