Atrocious Coaching

The defensive series in overtime was a little odd. There was no way Kirby was going to let Stockton throw into the end zone. Every play was a run or a throw at or behind the LOS and we stayed in two deep the entire set.

Lastly, here is their scoring play. The circled guy is Trey Moore. Really odd to see him lined up at LB. He was late to react and was sealed off on this play.

The second image makes it look like he should have been tackled for a loss. How did the DE and LB both whiff here? I see there’s a pulling guard, but still.

This is what I don't understand.  You've got the QB Whisperer coach.  You've got a perfect 10, 5 star QB.  Receivers are great.  OL should have at least 4 make the NFL.  TE is amazing.  RB could be better, but it's not the worst.  The defense gives you the ball pretty quickly via turnovers or 3 and outs.  How is this team not wracking up points like, say, OU during the Riley years?  I'm not being facetious.  I'm truly curious.

our receivers aren't great, our oline is unbelievably over rated, TE is a nice story but no where near amazing and our QB has 4 or 5 WTF plays a game.

11 penalties for almost 100 yards.

Lost the turnover battle.... again with 3 turnovers (1 didn't matter).

We played uphill all first half because our great returner was either told or inexplicably brought it out of the EZ (only time) to open the game.  Cost us field position and we struggled to get out of the hole for awhile.

31 rushing yards on 28 rushes

Not ready for the fake punt.

Incredibly poor play calling sequences once we got inside the 30 yard line particularly the last drive of regulation and 1 and 10 from the 12 in OT.  The concept we ran were ludicrous and when we ran them make no sense.

2nd down play calling.

The false start which cost us 3 points.

The 6 yard sack Ewers took on 3rd down in his sight line on 3rd down which cost 3 more points

Two things really kind of put a bow on the season.  All of the pre-snap penalties.  Again, 1 of them took 3 points off the board.

And this.....

Whether you think he was celebrating or pointing to the EZ (did Barron not know where it was), if you don't practice these situations and everyone on the defense practice and know exactly what to do.  Get your head around, see who could catch him, get in front of them.  He gets a block and this is a pick 6.  We have a few plays like this every game, whereby situation and game awareness is really poor and when you play upper echelon teams, it tends to bit you in the ass.  Please understand, we didn't lose because of this play, but you put enough of these together with all of things above..... it how you lose lose with superior talent.  And make NO mistake, we have superior talent to Georgia.  Kirby Smart and his staff just spanked Sark and our staff.  I very much hope Sark really works on his blind spots during the offseason because I'm very pleased with where he has brought the program but there's a difference between the Kirby Smart's of the world and the Mack Brown's, and it's the details..... we don't do details well right now.

I don't know of a single team in America that wouldn't trade receiver rooms. Oline is overrated but they are still top 20 for sure.

Because our QB sucks.

This shit isn't fucking complicated.

The only posters here that don't see it are the ones that only watch Texas.

First half receivers couldn't catch the fucking ball. Second half Ewers made bad reads and throws. OT Sark made dumb play calls

The pulling guard took care of Hill, Moore was easily sealed off. He was late to react and was surprisingly not very physical when he came down hill. You could tell it wasn't his natural position.

Styles make fights. We don't match up well with them for some reason. Had our chances and lost it.

Sometimes that happens when you play good teams.

We don't match up with them well?  More like they've outcoached us twice.  That simple.  The first time, Ewers was a negative.  This time, he played well enough to win and we still lost because of coaching.  I still think we're capped with QE but he played well enough to win..... we lost because Kirby spanked Sark.

We did get on our own ways.  However, there were different interpretations of holding and hands-to-the-face as a function of the color of your jersey,

Pretty much.

Hopefully we get that elite QB for three years.

What’s your solution?  Should we fire Sark?  Stop being a bitch.  The reason we are even in this game is bc of Sark.  Dude is playing a game against a team, staff and program that has won 2 of the last 3 national championships with a QB that has to wear an ankle brace, his 1st round LT out, and a RB group that features our 3rd stringer on the road.  We lost in overtime.  Have some fucking perspective.  Oh yeah, his kicker that was bails last season can’t make shit this year and cost us 6 points.  Don’t forget that too.  Maybe he should have benched Bert in the offseason and foreseen he wasn’t going to make shit and got a transfer kicker…. What an idiot that Sark is.

Lulz. No one said anything about firing Sarkisian. He's a good coach.

If it offends face painters in pointing out the (coaching) reasons we lost tonight then so be it. They're the same idiots who are probably blaming the loss on the officials.

It would not have mattered if the receivers cached easy balls, side show Bob kicked 2 easy fields goals, ewers didnt panic in the second half and Sark didnt shit the bed in OT.

We would have won if any one of those things worked. Stop blaming the refs . WE lost this game. Sark lost this game

I mean he has another qb that’s not in a ankle brace we could give more plays than just the Tebow zone read 1-3 plays a game.

Made this post on the "Atrocious Coaching" thread, it's a fact on this thread too.

Bond has been hurt for weeks, and it's made a difference, he went from the leading receiver to almost an afterthought. It would have been better to have just set him down till he got healthy with the bad ankle. He just kept hurting it every week. Today he finally just had to hop off the field. He was certain first round draft choice till the injury. He will still get some consideration because when healthy he is a real weapon

Meh. Seek out the blame-it-on-the-refs thread. Threads.  Plural. To your liking.

Coaching lost the game tonight.

Pretty straightforward.

The issue was not the accuracy of your opinion.

You’re the dumb fuck that started this thread.  I personally do not think this was an atrocious coaching job.  I feel that Sark gave us a chance to win considering the circumstances and the opponent.  Not his fault the kicker can’t make FGs.

We played sideline to sideline with our runs and passes. Pure shit. Georgia is too fast for that. We needed to run right at them…like they did at us, including with their (backup) QB.

Yeah, those runs right up the middle were fucking awesome.

Oh, you mean like when we already tried that to see him fumble the ball and not be able to love the ball the first time we played them?

Kicker is a bigger problem than QB.  We simply can’t miss 50% of kicks and expect to win close games.

This.  Georgia played a worse game and won bc their special teams made plays and ours didn’t.  That was the difference.  I don’t blame sark for not getting another kicker considering Bert was solid last year.  Not getting a punter however was a terrible decision.

Auburn was 4-8 from beyond 40 yards this year.  0-1 beyond 50.  He missed a 42 yarder and 51 yarder.  Sort of on brand.

Last year?  11 out of 16 from over 40 yards or about 69%.  That's not great, so really he's an average college kicker.  He's pretty accurate but with limited range.  He just got to kick an inordinate amount of 20-39 yard FGs last year (19), which helped his conversion.  Auburn hasn't changed much since he got the job.  He's never been great because of his limited range.

And this was definitely about coaching.  Pre-snap penalties are about coaching.  Now maybe it wasn't all about Sark's fault.... as it was the special teams coach or the OL coach (false starts), but Sark wears two hats -- HC and OC so double the flowers and double the criticisms.

100% on sark. he is in love with himself.  hes a bad play caller he insists on those fucking long developing plays where quinn has to turn his back to the defense, or double fake reverse screen passes.  Someone needs to set him down and tell him to stop ttrying to be so cute all the fucking time. hes not fooling anyone

This is terrible analysis. Our oline had no push. Our run game up the middle was dead all night. We made all of our money on quick rpos and slow developing midrange passes. If we drop the latter this is a repeat of the first game. The reality is we adjusted properly Quinn is just limited, and we got fucked by the refs and our own special teams.

I’m 100% on the Sark train but his play calling has been suspect especially in the second half. There needs to be some accountability.

i do think Sark needs to look in mirror and hire an OC.  Perhaps I’m wrong but I don’t think a coach has won it all being the head coach and OC (or even DC).  I am pretty confident that both Saban and Kirby would have been ready for that fake punt and telling the players.  You have to wonder if Sark was thinking about the next offensive plays and not the play at hand.

With that said even with poor officiating, blaming the refs is the bitch move.  We got beat and I think we had the better team.

Sark frustrates me at times, but I think he's the right coach for Texas.
