CFP-RSVP Prices 2024

For anyone unfamiliar, these things give the holder the right to buy a CFP championship game ticket at face value ($800 for lower level, $450 for upper). You buy them for a specific team, they can be bought and sold on the secondary market, and if your team does not make the championship game, you're SOL.

They initially went on sale in August, before the season started. I started tracking the top 11 teams at that time. Obviously some of them became worthless (FSU, Michigan, Ole Miss) once it became clear those teams had no chance of making the playoff, while new teams emerged as the season went on.

Trading has halted as of late Saturday evening. It resumes Sunday afternoon after the playoff field is announced. Same charts with different Y scales.

You can see from the first chart that us, tOSU, and Georgia have been far and away the most valuable teams throughout the year. Oddly, I recorded today's data after our SECCG loss, and our value was unaffected. I don't get that. Oregon has been a great value all year, IMO. Bama and Tennessee both had their day in the sun in the middle of the season.

We’re Texas

but seriously, today’s outcome did little to influence us not making the championship.

yes, having to play an extra game theoretically makes it a longer shot we make it back to Atlanta but we still have a pretty manageable road all things considered.

I grabbed my 6 (max) when they first went on sale with plans to use 4 and sell the other 2 options to recoup the option price I paid for all 6.

Debating if I want to do that or just roll the dice and hold all 6, hope we make it, and bank more selling two actual tickets to help offset the cost of the face value of the 4 I plan to use.

Wait, what?

How much did you pay for those options?

$225 each for lower level the day the market opened.

I need $1,350 to break even on the 6 options I bought.

With the 20% “commission” they charge, I need to list two at $810 each to break even. Current list is $690.

(it’s too late for maths)

I paid $150 each for three Texas upper level options, at season’s beginning

You've done quite well then. I'm holding a few speculative plays, but never could bring myself to pull the trigger on any Texas.

Thanks, but only if we make it. I’d never sell them. Ride or die😄

It’s a hedge against ridiculous Nc game prices should Texas make it there. Similarly, I bought a couple of CB tix. I’ll sell at a Minimal loss if Texas  doesn’t make that semifinal, or goes to the Orange Bowl.

My guess is that the option should be worth ((Secondary Market Price of CG Ticket) - (Face Value of CG Ticket)) * (Expected Chance of Selected Team Making CG).

The upper deck option for Texas in the CG was around $325 before the SEC CG. After losing, and getting seeded #5, that option was worth about $420 this morning. I thought that was interesting

I played long game last yr with the Houston factor and got burned. Bought after ou loss for less than a 100 and saw it go up in smoke I think maxing around 400.

I’m ready to do the same this year. My feeling is- if Texas goes all the way, going won’t be cost-prohibitive for my family. If Texas loses to, say, Oregon in the Cotton Bowl, and I lose the “investment”, we’ll, I paid that MC bill months ago.

I'm holding a couple Oregon options that are in the black right now. Trying to decide the smartest time to sell, since if those options end up cashing, I don't have any interest in actually going to the game.

All my other modest holdings are on the opposite side of the bracket.

So people gamble with this shit?

Jesus Christ, I'm glad I stopped enjoying going to games a few years ago. This is just stupid money at this point. I could buy a USA made Gibson or Fender with what a couple of tickets to a single game cost.
