Texas missed Bama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, South Carolina, LSU (most of the top of the SEC) and played a lot of ~.500 teams close. Quinn was averaging 5 air yards per pass attempt until our last game, is immobile, not clutch at all, and our running backs wouldn’t start on any Texas team since 2008-2009. Clemson should be suuuuuuuper worried coming into DKR with a gutted student section and the expectations of the world on Texas.

Edit

its bizarre how you people keep bringing up the week 1 UGA game as proof. The half time scores of each team’s first UGA games were 0-6 and 0-23. The gap between Texas and Clemson is smaller than 11-14 points.

all you guys saying we can't do anything on offense and we suck shit threw a straw because of the last few games are tiring. we've won all these games and if our kicker makes his field goals we would've won Saturday. its the playoff now, who gives a fuck what we can or can't do, everyone has warts. just win em all whether we run for 500 or pass for 500 or turn it over 5 times, JUST WIN. LFG and fuck Clemson smu Arizona st. all of them.

Also, for some reason people think Clemson's defense is good.

For perspective, all these teams on our schedule have a better D than Clemson per FEI: Oklahoma, Georgia X2, Texas A&M, and Michigan. I also think Kentucky's D is better but just had issues on offense that limited the effectiveness of their D.

Half our schedule was against better defenses.

I’m not even saying we need anything crazy. Putting this offense in positions like:

1st & 10 - 3 yard run

2nd & 7 - 3 yard run

3rd & 4 - (you have the entire playbook at your disposal) this is a down & distance where Helm and Golden should feast on crossing routes and drags

instead we’ll get

1st & 10 - oopty oop razzle dazzle double screen Jaydon Blue - 2 yards

2nd & 12 - Quinn arm punt deep ball to no one

3rd & 12 - wisner check down 4 yards

4th & 8 - Kern 32 yard punt

Of course this is all after fielding the kick 4 yards deep in the end zone and starting on our own 15, punting from our 17 and setting them up at midfield after only taking 58 seconds off the clock and fucking our defense over yet again.

That strategy worked against everyone not named Georgia so I say fuck it we ball

Last night I had a vision of the Longhorns working their way through the playoffs and this is what I saw.

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Sark, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the College Football Playoffs, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth."

Hell is coming for Clemson and everyone else that follows in their path.

Non-sack rushing for Texas

40-196
32-143
34-197
51-243
29-200
29-183
20-88
30-133
30-219
39-146
46-256
49-244
22-58

It looks like we can run against everyone except one game against one team. Our first game against Georgia was fine on straight runs, Sarkisian tried to run wide way too often in the second game.

that first post-Georgia result is what really concerns me. An otherwise season-low in non-sack rushing yardage (133, 4.4 ypc) with a (non-Georgia) season-high 4 sacks. A week after we’d been exposed. Fucking Vanderbilt.

Or the 3.74 ypc vs Arkansas? We beating top 10 teams with that? Clemson, clearly the 2nd best team we’ve played, can’t reproduce the results of Vandy and Arkansas, can they?!

The big problem with Clemson's D is they're #123 in explosive plays.

The way to stop our offense is to limit big plays and force us into long drives. Clemson has been incapable of doing that all year.

73rd at stopping the run, 60th at stopping the pass, 65th total. If we blow this at home…… holy fuck.

In Sarks last three losses, we rushed for 51 (Washington), 31 (Georgia), and 29 (Georgia).

I don't think this Texas team is losing to any team against whom they can run the ball.

Clemson gave up 154 rushing yards against SMU, 267 against SC, 210 against Pitt, and 169 against Georgia.

This is always the truth. When sark’s team can’t run the ball it’s trouble.  When they can, he looks like a genius.

The good news is Vandy is 44th against the run, Arkansas 32nd. No excuses OL.

Which is why I keep saying, YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO RUN THE BALL. Some here think we should just tee up 50-60 passes a game. Ask Leach (RIP) how many championships that’ll get you.

We do struggle in the red zone and with rushing but fortunately Clemson's red zone defense is #52 behind the likes of UTEP, JMU, FAU, FIU, Rutgers, Michigan and a lot of other clowns.

Their rushing defense is #73 and their total defense is #65 lulz.

Clemson isn't going to come close to stopping our offense.

Kentucky has a much better defense than Clemson and we manhandled them, Clemson isn't even going to be a speed bump.

Clemson's D is not good.

The only reason the advanced metrics kind of like their D is because they do force a lot of turnovers. That's the only redeeming part of their D. They suck at everything else.

From what I've seen, they take a lot of risks on defense trying to force turnovers because they know their D isn't good. It leads to turnovers but also a lot of big plays.

I admonished the vaginal caterwauling around here before the A&M game and your version is even dumber.

"But what if we play as badly as we've played all year and they play better than they have all year? What then?"

Scintillating analysis.

You’re already dismissing our 2 worst performances (that came against the team with the closest composite roster talent). Now we’ll just exclude the next 2 worst performances?

there are only a few teams on our schedule with remotely similar rosters. Aggy and OU: each abandoned/busted their 5-star QBs. Georgia dominated us once, then beat us in OT with their backup QB, crushing our running game both times.

Here we are, about to face another team with similar roster talent but with a 5-star QB they’ve actually invested the three years of development into… are you really expecting Texas to win this by 11+?

it’s a git damn shame we don’t have your old adjustedstats for discussion purposes SIR 🤣

We don’t have to win by 11+. 10 9 8 7 6 5 5 3 2 or 1 will do just fine. People will bitch (duh) but they’ll get over it

The point is that your analysis is fairly worthless. Yes, Texas will lose if they play poorly while Clemson plays their best game. Great. Now what happens if Texas plays their best while Clemson plays poorly? Something like 41-7 Texas. But who gives a shit about edge cases. We've covered them now so how about everyone stops crying about their nightmares?

Georgia might have 3 first-rounders on their D (Starks, Walker, and Williams) and Everette is going to be a borderline 1st but probably early to mid 2nd rounder dependent on how he tests.

Clemson has nobody that's going that early on D.

The fact you think Georgia is a good comparison point (especially on D) for talent is hilarious.

Clemson is now the 2nd best team on our schedule. If Klubnik is ass, then our QB is cold diarrhea because Klubnik is better by every measurable statistic. Do you seriously have confidence we're gonna have the better QB play in this game?

We're not blowing out anyone going forward. You actually have to be able to score touchdowns and make field goals to achieve such a thing. If Bobby and Gerry are worried, you should be too. Clemson gets to stroll in with zero pressure or expectations and the "nobody believes in us" chip on their shoulder.  Best case scenario we win this game like 20-13 riding our defense.

Clemson +11 = lol free money.

We'll have enough offense that it won't matter because our defense is #1 in the nation for a reason. Clemson doesn't have the D-line personnel to stop Wisner, and they have exactly 1 DB worth a shit. Is covering all of our WR's? If Bond is out, which isn't a bad thing considering his lack of giving a shit, would propel Wingo in his spot so he can finally do something other than sit on the sidelines while Sark square peg round holes what's not working. Even Blue in the flat can be effective.

This isn't 2018-2020 Clemson defense. They like, 6-7 decent players at best. I'm not saying they're Florida, but they damn sure aren't Georgia. Dabo has killed that program. Had he not went full retard and used the poral correctly, we would be having a vastly different discussion. You think Mukuba left because he was homesick? Lol, no. He jumped off a sinking ship to come to a program on the rise.

I’m concerned with Quinn's confidence moving forward. He looked deflated in the postgame interview with his head down and not saying much. But he gets that way after a loss. He has to feel confident that he can win these games moving forward and that he’s totally in charge to win at any cost. Whatever it takes. Or, man, they may be one and done.

Vegas has been pretty spot on for a reason. We have the better defense and could have beaten Georgia if sideshow Bert doesn't was a competent kicker. We at least faced someone with a pulse and took them to OT. Clemson faced....SMU, and needed a FG to win the game.

These 2 teams are on an opposite trajectory recruiting-wise. I don't care who the opponent is; when you have more INT's than who you're playing has TD's, that's telling. We're in rw-loading stage, while Dabo is in worship Jesus mode hoping we don't pick off Klubnik 3+ times. If you can't understand the difference between these two teams, I don't know what to tell you.

There's a reason the spread is where it is and why most places have it an 80/20 game for Texas, because that's what it is. I've got it in the 30-17 to 31-20 range on average. That means Texas has some wiggle room but not much. The more important things to discuss instead of worst case scenarios are things like Kelvin Banks's and Bond's recoveries, what the hell Jeff Banks does these days, and if Sarkisian is going to cut the crap with the 5 fakes in the backfield stuff.

I hope I didn’t directly compare them to Georgia. I’m expecting a vandy/Ark level defense but with perhaps better QB play. maybe I’m expecting too much from Cade and they’re really just a Vandy caliber team in the ACC? Do you have a better comp from our schedule?

I don't think there's a very good comp.

The best way I could break it down is Clemson is one of the best offenses we've played this season. It's a middle-of-the-pack defense compared to other teams we've played. It's one of the worst special teams we've played.

That's how you end up with a team that lost 3 games and probably should have lost 4 or 5 when you look at win expectancy. When you have just an OK defense and a terrible special teams your offense better be elite and Clemson's offense isn't elite.

We should win by 10-14 points. But I can’t dismiss Clemson. They’ve got talent and we will have the pressure on us, which will give them confidence. If we let them hang with us for too long in the first half, that pressure will build. Would love to see us finally be able to come out strong, step on the throat, and put a team away.

Feel like we’re due for a defensive TD, or special teams (lolz who am I kidding). Would love to cash one of those in.

No matter what I’m really looking forward to another game day at DKR.

And yet I can all but guarantee you the first 20 plays will be 16 pass 4 run.

And if the 4 run plays go for 11 total yards everyone will say “WHY DOES STUBBORN SARK KEEP RUNNING”

So Clemson opened with Georgia (loss), then played 10 straight games against unranked opponents with only 1 game being against a team that won more than 7 games (Louisville, who beat them), before closing with South Carolina (who also beat them) and SMU.

They've had to play a lot of hero ball with Klubnik against good defenses. 10 carries against South Carolina and 14 against SMU.
