If you told me a couple of weeks back that we'd knock UGa's QB outta the game by halftime, and hold them to 16 points when the clock hit 00:00,  I'da been pretty broke and homeless now... 'cause I would have bet the ranch on that W.

If we want to win this game, either we find a way to get someone not named Ewers some holes to run through, or we quit turning the ball over and quit settling for FGs. Or both, preferably. Clemson isn't even in the conversation with UGa, but they also aren't in the other conversation with aggy. We can't stumble-fuck our way through this game.

No mistakes here, we're gonna have to fight for the win.

I think we do it.

This first 12-team shit is set up for storybook chapters. I want to see us knocking off the Fightin' Nikes and (finally) the Whiny Visordawgs and hoisting that trophy award hardware.

But before we do that, we need to take care of Clemson... and, of course, the Big XII Champs.

Saddle up, boys.

Clemson was getting pushed around by SMU's OL at times in their game. If you don't think we have a better OL than SMU's merry band of guys who couldn't cut it at their previous spots, I dunno what to tell you. Wisner and SMU's Smith are similarly built guys.

Yes... Clemson has some legit NFL players. They are not deep though. Based on what I have cobbled together on Clemson, the match-up sets up kind of well for the typical Texas offense.

Secondary is young. They like to run a lot of man. They have had issues busting coverages, so it is big risk if they try to get multiple. See the Florida game (probably not that bad though).. 13th in opponent passes of 20+ yards in the ACC and dead last in opponent plays over 20+ yards.

If you give Sark and Quinn predictable coverages. The opening script and 1st Half Quinn generally put up points.

Given some of the depth concerns on the DL. That all sets up for Sark being able to run the ball in second half and put this away. That is at least how it looks on paper. We will see if it plays out like that

One of my best friends has a (grad) engineering degree from Texas and a veterinary degree from UGA.  His dad was a prof at Clemson, so he watches a lot of their games.  He swears Clemson's front 7 is better than UGA's.  Not deeper, but better in the starting 7.

Don't shoot the messenger.

They don't have a Warren Brinson or Nazir Stackhouse on their team. Mykel Williams and TJ Parker are a wash if not trending Parker.

Clemson also doesn't have the linebacker play behind their front like Georgia's. Clemson's are more of the plodding, physical plugger type that gets it trouble when they have to move side to side. Georgia has athletic, rangy, and relatively aware guys behind their line. We all know what Jalon Walker can do as well.

I saw former Texas 3rd string OL Logan Parr handle his own often enough against the 6'2, 315 lb Peter Woods for me to have minimal concerns there for Conner.

That is questionable, but the difference is Georgia can come at you in waves. Clemson can not. Georgia has better Lbs, that is not debatable.  Clemson has their own Anthony Hill. Sammy Brown is a really talented freshmen, but has the same issues Hill had in year 1. Lot of boom and bust from him. It is one reason they give up so many long running plays. Dead last in runs over 20 yards with 26 allowed on the season. FSU is the only other team in the ACC above 20 (22)

Here is Clemson pts allowed by Quarter:

1st: 6th in the nation 2.3 pts

2Q; 47th 6.8 pts

3rd: 14th 3.7 pts

4th: 119th 10.3 pts

According to the Sagarin data, Texas played the 20th toughest schedule in the nation (harder than five other SEC programs). Texas was 4-2 against top 30 teams.

Clemson played the 51st toughest schedule and finished 1-3 against top 30 teams.

I only mention any of this because the two of you used the same argument against Texas, that they haven't played anyone. The data analysis has been done and that narrative is a total myth. Besides, that they didn't play somebody isn't evidence that they are not a great team.

Let's give Clemson a fighting chance because Texas does have flaws and Clemson is a talented team. No need to carry forward an untrue narrative.

Not sure what Sagarin is looking at but Texas got 6 of the bottom 8 sec teams this year. Two of which (Kentucky and Mississippi state) are just horrible football teams.

@dallasmustang11  Texas played two losing SEC teams, two winning SEC teams and three teams at .500...... Georgia played three losing SEC teams and no teams at .500 ..... It's a curve, Georgia and others have higher ceilings and lower floors. Texas has less variance. The opponents Texas faced are typically between 6 and 8 win teams.

Besides, there are other metrics you'd want to look at, performance against common opponents for example. Texas and Georgia played three of the same teams, Texas outperformed Georgia in all three cases. None of these are definitive by themselves, but together they can serve as useful indicators.

Instead repeating that Texas isn't a good team because of who they haven't played you should look at these performance models. Again, there isn't all that much you attack Texas for, so this narrative was born.

@ nobody is saying Texas is bad because of their weak schedule. But it is a weak sec schedule. To somehow twist getting to play 6 of the bottom 8 sec teams as some incredibly difficult test is just not based in fact.

You're not entirely wrong, they did face a slightly below average SEC schedule. The gap isn't nearly as wide as some believe, but there is a gap.

The issue really isn't the schedule, it's whether Texas is a good or bad team. People are using the schedule to diminish the great season Texas had, this is what I'm addressing now.

There are many accepted metrics you can use to determine if Texas performed well enough against average opponents to warrant calling them a top level team. Texas played consistent ball all season, outscoring their SEC opponents by around 14 points, while also posting nation leading defensive numbers. There are multiple respected data models that gauge performance against competition and they all agree that Texas is performing like a top team should perform. To that end, I believe that the schedule narrative is just something people who want to go after Texas have seized upon, but it isn't reality. The data is pretty clear that Texas is performing very well this season and their schedule isn't nearly as bad as some want to believe.

I think it's perfectly ok to just dislike Texas, that's everyone's right. But if you're trying (not you personally) to say they aren't a good team because they didn't play Bama or Ole Miss then A, you're likely holding those schools in too high of regard, and B, you're basing this opinion on something Texas hasn't done instead of looking at what they have done.

This is just my view, nothing personal. Whatever we say today doesn't mean nearly as much as the game itself. If Texas is as good as I believe they are, then they'll win. Otherwise, they won't.

the key takeaway from those comments is at the very end

"you're basing this opinion on something Texas hasn't done instead of looking at what they have done"

so.... we lost all the games we didn't play

where have we heard that before?

in other words, the aggy false-equivalency excuse engine has generated a postulate that like a virus easily jumps across fan populations, migrates upward in their $9.95 ecosystems, and then gets echochambered by the national media....  and here we are

it's almost a given that if we win it all the rest of college football will try to asterisk the hardware and if we lose at any point along the way it will be "see told you so"

so, i guess..... advantage: aggy

I just want Sark to shelve the play where QE fakes a hand off then spins around and does a screen pass to his blind side.

Takes way too long to develop and teams with athletes on D blow it up as IOL for Texas is not great at holding blocks that long vs good D lines.

It worked the very first time Texas ran it two years ago. It was neat. Everyone beat off over sarks genius play design. It’s nearly gotten the qb and pass catcher killed after that.

See if you can do a shot of tequila every time we throw the ball behind the line of scrimmage. The goal is not to throw up before the end of the game. I don't think most of you could make it.

You’d need a fucking gallon just to keep from running out.

Sarkisian had a week to implement an easy wrinkle against Georgia - some Manning snaps, mobility and a possible read-option, after seeing Georgia get torched in the previous week with that look. Didn't happen.
Hope you're right.

He’s not. Sark is a stubborn fuck.

no need to play a limited Bond when Wingo is healthy. Give him 10 more days to heal up.

I’d like to see the main injured guys get as much rest as possible. If Texas can win without Bond and Banks this week, without getting Ewers or someone else injured, that would be great going forward.

I was assuming and still hoping something like this would / will be the first thing Arch does in the Red Zone. I don't care whether he jumps or pushes it, or flips it or tosses it, I want to see him headed for the line, drawing all thirteen defenders and hit Gunnar or Wingo behind errybody. 1st and goal, worst case. Now run the exact same thing. I see DC's shitting their shorts.

If he does something like that, it will be when Texas is up by a lot. Seems like Sark likes to really dick around and get cute then.

I expect the Longhorn defense to get a safety on Klubfoot.

I know Mukuba is ready to lay the boom on Mofo and Taffe is ready to torture his old QB.

Sorrel, Ant, Muhammad, Barron, Broughton; time to eat!

Don't forget Collins, Simmons, Burke, Trey Moore, Lole. That defense is going to feast. They really have no clue what's about to happen to them.

There's a lot of stupidity here but UGA's path is not a cakewalk (at least in comparison to Texas).

We do get a potentially more difficult semis match-up in Oregon but they get the much more difficult quarters match-up in ND.

And who knows, Oregon could get bounced by fOSU or Tennessee. I would love a UT on UT match-up.
