Texas 2025 Roster

Excited to see what Butler can do.  RS this past season due to a crowded WR room.  #12 player in the State of CA.  Good size.  I think he flashes next year

Me too. I think we should just take our lumps and let our young WRs gain valuable experience next season unless there’s a “can’t miss” portal prospect.

My wife's family has had vacation property next door to Will Stone's family for years now.  Saw the Stone family over the break and asked Will when he was going to get a fair shake at taking FGs.  He just shook his head and said he didn't want to talk about it.

At least he got to try PATs vs. Ohio State.

The SEC said they were keeping the scholarship limit at 85 for this upcoming season right? It makes very little sense for us next year to carry 2 scholarship kickers, 2 scholarship punters, and a scholarship deep snapper. I get they want Kern to redshirt and develop behind Bouwmeester, but if they are going to do that, then we probably need to carry only 1 scholarship kicker. I wouldn't be opposed to just completely starting over at the kicker position and taking someone in the spring portal window.

One Kicker on scholarship seems risky in new format where you can play so many extra games.  One tweak here and there and you would be relying on walkon

Of all the positions you need insurance on in case of injury, kicker feels like it is dead last. Yeah it would suck if your guy tweaks his hammy but how often does that actually happen? I would be more indifferent on carrying 2 scholarship kickers if weren't also giving full rides to two punters and long snapper.

At a place like Texas, we should have a walk-on kicker or two who can trot out to make an extra point of 35-yarder in the middle of the field if we need them to. We took the kicker from Westlake last year as a walk-on who had G5 offers.

- I believe we have two that can be the power back role. Gibson and Clark. Dont let last night fool you, Gibson was a plus in short yardage gains

Hopefully Clark bucks the odds, but wouldn't count on either him or Baxter until they show they can do it following recovery.

James Simon coming in may prove worthy in short yardage situations and between the tackles.

Vogel and Gerry below talking about the incoming class. I've linked it to start with their comments about James Simon.

Pick up a RB in portal ?

Definitely something to consider at this point. We all hope Baxter comes back and is good to go coming off the injury.  Which version do we get though?  We forget that before the last few games Baxter could break at tackle to save his life, his YAC was astronomically bad.  The last few he had started to run hard though.

Before his injury, Clark was the RB I had high hopes for. Only a 3-star, but plenty big and with a versatile skill set. It's just hard to realistically maintain those hopes unless he comes back virtually as good as new. Wish he'd torn up a knee instead of tearing an Achilles.

He literally hurt his ankle on his first carry last year, hoping he's healthy may be a pipe dream.

Simon may surprise. His dad was in the NFL and prepped him. He may come a little more prepared, than most freshmen

You gotta add at least 1 of all the following, right?? OL, DB, WR, and RB.

DB maybe OL and DL are the only positions I feel you have to add .

WR you only take if it’s a huge upgrade imo

RB all depends on injuries I could see one with Blue leaving though

You've got backups everywhere else.  We paid dearly during the Mackovic era when he wouldn't even put one punter on scholarship.  He relied on people walking on and earning a slot.

Choice has stated he has no intention of pursuing a RB from the portal when asked recently.

We can agree to disagree. He’s a player with potential to be a star in the league. His issues can be fixed. Speed cannot be taught.

Westbrook fumbled once every 152 NFL touches and had multiple years

Blue fumbled every 88 this year.

Fumble issues have derailed a ton of better players than Blue. His path to playing is non existent if he doesn't solve that problem.
