Didn’t Derek Williams enroll in the summer? He was playing quality snaps by the end of the year.

Just a data point. I don’t expect Jonah to have an impact this year. The safety room is in a much better spot than when Derek came in, obviously.

Every player/position is different. Safety is position that is more reliant on instincts and football IQ, than raw athleticism. There are players like Caleb Downs that come in and have 0 learning curve. It is possible that Jonah Wiliams comes and is a star, I just do not think it is probable.

yep.  Even Earl Thomas redshirted.  Don't recall what Stearns or Jones did, but as I recall Brandon Jones did not start until SO year.

Sterns was pretty good straight away. Kinda felt like his first six games here were the best of his career, but part of that feeling was probably the general malaise of the Herman years

Not doubting, just curious - why is the belief here that Lance Jackson won't have much impact this year? DE seems to be a position where freshman can shine quickly and his measurables seem college ready.

Obviously I understand he's behind at least 3 vets but seems like he could find his way into the rotation especially if Vasek isn't healthy.

I would like to know which players/prospects do not jazz you up due to them not being special or a freak.

It’s so “amazing” to an older guy how these young EEs can get a head start into Spring FB. It’s so much more beneficial than just showing up in August for Fall Camp.

The Strength/Conditioning, Food/Meal program, but the best part is participating in Spring Ball. When the season starts, it’s almost like they’re not Freshmen.

DE can shine early if you don't care about them playing the run. We play sound defense, so we care.

He plays the Jack. That requires more ability to anchor vs the run and set the edge. It may take him a bit to gain the lower body strength to hold up vs College tackles. The biggest hurdle for him is the Edge position appears to be one of the deepest on the roster. Burke and Vasek look like a solid 1-2 at the Jack. Vasek has shown some ability to get pressure albeit in limited snaps. Zina is there, hard to know where he is at this point. Simmons and Moore are at the Buck. Simmons had a nice path to the field last year. Start him out in pass rushing situations in the Nascar package. (Simmon, Broughton, Sorrell, and Burke/Moore). He slowly moved to playing standard downs. Simmons had that elite pass rushing skill. He set the Duncanville record for sacks with 22.5 in a season. Jackson had 9 sacks. Lance will need to be a better all around player to get heavy snaps. It is possible, just a much harder road. I think that is a good development. It is great not to need a true freshman to have to contribute. I think one of the true freshman DTs may surprise. I could definitely see Justus Terry coming in for pass rushing situations (13 sacks) early in the year and growing into a larger role. I think it is more about opportunity, than talent.

Dude is really raw and will have to wait a year or two to play some real snaps at safety but I'm pumped to see a Galveston Ball Tor out there in burnt orange.

This pic is so sick

Hard to improve when your focus is on the color of your piss and eating burnt toast because you lost some retarded drill that doesn't have to do with playing the position in-game.

Yeah he would have to learn A LOT to see the field. I don't know if it's possible.

I don't really watch a ton of HS ball so it's hard to tell, but I'm sure many of these guys look raw out there because they are just so much faster and more talented they rely on that rather than much technique. He's one of those guys, a man amongst boys, just kind of overwhelming guys with his athleticism. Big sign of that is they just throw him in for 8 snaps at WR and toss it up towards him.

Hope he stays healthy and learns a lot. He could be useful in as a joker or nickel or whatever they call it. I donno if he would get picked apart playing safety and having deep responsibilities so early.

Forgive me for not scouring all 10 pages . . . what's our kicking situation going forward?

As someone who has scoured all 10 pages, I think the consensus is that we will not be punting or kicking next season.

We have Arch there is no need for kickers anymore.

I was referring to him getting benched.

Yeah, he's returning.  He just doesn't have an inside track.  I was hoping we'd land some portal kicker who isn't prone to shitting the bed from the right hash mark.

I wouldn't be surprised if they get a good one in the spring portal period.

Remember when we were kids playing street football and you would yell out "P for K!" and heave the ball down the street in place of punting?

Arch is gonna be allowed to do that.

For field goals, too.

So who is going to be out nascar package this year? Simmons, Moore, Terry, and Burke?

We will see. Sometimes they put Moore at off-ball LB with Hill. They have a lot of flexibility. Best guess is Simmons (Edge), Terry (DT, replacing Broughton), Vasek/Burke (DT, replacing Sorrell), Moore (Edge). Terry having the lowest odds to make it.
