Bill Belichick's record without Brady is 83-101 (45%) ...he ain't winning shit at UNC.

Most overrated coach in NFL history.

Belichick is a great X & O coach who also happens to be a horse's ass. He needed Brady, cause aside from being an excellent QB that understood the first rule of winning is "don't lose the game with stupid ass hero ball (Bret Favre)," he kept the team together and soothed ruffled feathers. Belichick ran off competent players cause he's a jerk.

NFL is a whole different beast. What is his recruiting going to look like? Is UNC ponying up big NIL to give him weapons?

Belichick loses more knowledge about coaching football every time he shits than Deion has ever had in his life. So if Deion can scrape together enough to be competitive in the shit Big 12 I don't see how this would be much different.

Deion surprised me because great players hardly ever become great coaches. Most of the guys who become great coaches were average to above average players, and they had to know the game intimately to make up for their physical shortcomings. Great players often depend upon their athletic ability, so if Deion got out of position, he had the speed to cover his mistake. I'm not saying he's a great coach, but he's outperformed what I thought he would.

What I have trouble seeing is Belichick being able to deal with a college environment, where players can walk. If he can convince enough 4 & 5 star players that he can get them ready for the NFL, he's got a chance, but we're living in a world where a lot of these guys will make more money in college than they ever will in the NFL.

Belichick can now do whatever he wants without the NFLPA, NFL Commissioner, and a team owner breathing down his neck. Nobody gives a fuck about the NCAAs rules.

what is their nil situation?  public ivy like us has to have cigars

are they organized? is 4m to 12m the actual situation/probability

and what are they up against in the acc - what are clemson's and miami's numbers

The 4 to 12 thing Mack is talking about is a smoke screen.  He's talking about revenue sharing.  Everyone competing for an ACC title will rev share at comparable levels, so it will just raise the floor.  NIL will still be required to set the ceiling.

Some people are just wired differently than us mortals. 72? GFL.

If Brady hadn't won another title he'd be off fishing somewhere.

I'd like to see the girlfriend start banging NC State tennis players, just to add some spice to this.

With video, of course.

Are you trying to tell me William Mack Brown was being a disingenuous fuck in an act of pouty self-victimization? Shocking.

This is now probably the most interesting story in sports for the next year or so. It will dominate sports media if they start strong next year.

Yeah, we’re gonna need something else to talk about because it’s gonna get boring talking about how good Arch is.

I hadnt really thought about it, but Belichick strolling in right as hoops is crapping its pants has caused a surprising power tussle in Chapel Hill. On one hand, it seems ridiculous that basketball at UNC wouldn't be the clear front runner for funds/resources, but on the other hand the AD just hired Bill f'n Belichick. Hubert aint the guy, and UNC has to move there as well. Strange dynamic.

Make no mistake, this power struggle is a numbers game. How much money is available to spend on player procurement, and how much is spent on football and basketball.

Roster limits are another part of the House settlement that is awaiting final approval in April. Football will be limited to 105 players. The men's basketball limit is 15.

That’s 120 players that could be paid within the structure of one of the nation’s top athletic programs. And North Carolina isn’t going to simply ignore successful non-revenue sports that have won 46 national championships for the sake of the 33rd team.

Or will it?

We already saw the power play by the North Carolina Board of Trustees, forcing athletic director Bubba Cunningham to hire Belichick and throwing ridiculous amounts of money at a sport that prior to this offseason was treated as a functional distraction – by those same board members – until basketball tipped.

A guaranteed $30 million deal (over three years) for Belichick in addition to - as stated in his term sheet - $10 million annually for an assistant coach salary pool and $5.3 million annually for support staff.

That’s a $25.3 million annual investment in football — before player procurement, revenue sharing and NIL agreements. The total investment could surpass $40 million.

Forty million.

I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn here, but there’s no chance that the investment in the shining beacon of a basketball program along bucolic Skipper Bowles Drive – even per capita – reaches those ridiculous levels.

See the fight now? The 33rd team did, and planted its flag early.

There’s only so much cash to go around.

Yeah I'm not buying it. Their BMDs aren't into average basketball teams. I'm sure Belichick will get plenty of checks sent his way but Carolina isn't going to eschew basketball to go all-in for a guy that's never coached at any level in college football coaching a meh program.

It's like if Texas was bad at football and just made a splash basketball hire. Sure basketball would scrape some more funds together but the big money is always going to football at the end of the day.

Even if Beard was still at Texas he would be operating with a completely different checkbook than Sark.

He hired Michael Lombardi as GM lmao it's gonna go terribly.

In the NIL world and basically getting rid of “walk ons,” I think Bill bringing in Lombardi was a smart choice. He’s been his GM in the past and the future of CFB is headed to be more like the NFL than ever before.

I watch the Pat McAfee Show during lunch throughout the year, yes I know some don’t like his schtick, but Lombardi was a consistent guest on a weekly basis, as well as BB this past season. I actually think they will do well at NC over the next 3-4 years, then they’ll all retire for good.

Many Dad’s with NFL experience are already pushing their teenage sons to look at NC than ever before.

Interesting.  A little more flavor.

OC - Kitchens - retained from Brown's staff - 1 year NFL HC - > 25 years coaching in NFL and college
OL - Friend - OC at WKU last year; many years as OL coach in SEC
QB - Lombardi - analyst at Oregon last year, ~10 years as low level assistant in NFL
WR - Garrick McGee - WR at Louisville for 23-24, Purdue '22 (Brohm's guy).  HC at UAB for 2 seasons around 10 years ago (5-19)
RB - Means - analyst on Brown's staff 22-24; coaching at lower levels since 2005; played at UNC
OA - Pickrell -  GA and analyst on Brown's staff 22-24

DC - Steve Belichick - except for 2024 (Washington DC), reported to dad entire career - nepotism hire?
DB/S - Brian Belichick - all experience at Patriots, reporting to dad except in 2024.  Not retained for Vrabel's 2025 Pats - nepotism hire?
ILB - Collins - first time coach - 10+ years in NFL - final 2 w/ Patriots
DL - Diaco - 25+ years of coaching - 23-24 at LSU as ST/OLB
CB - Hawkins - low level coach from 2020-present.  analyst at Washington under SteveB
OLB - 2 years at Arizona (GA) and after 3 at Texas Tech
ST - Priefer - did not coach in 23-24; 25+ years experience
ST Asst - Miller - formerly IMG academy Head Coach

I think this site would be melting down if this was the staff of a newly hired HC.  Just my opinion.

Belichick and UNC back out of the Hard Knocks deal. Sounds like it was a control issue.

Radio this morning made it sound like the NFL had an issue with it

Yes.

Pushback from NFL owners.  Some owners did not like the idea of a league-owned platform following a college program.

Yeah - it's always good when there is a legitimate reason to deny something.

Here: He's a real fucking asshole -> as a league, we should not be choosing one college over another.

In hiring: He's a real fucking asshole -> he's not a culture fit.
