Small sample size, but for Colapinto to land on this list in only 9 races seems pretty good.  Curious how they calculated his DNFs though, but still.

If Q2 is your ceiling and even getting there is a struggle most weeks, a wreck may not cost you many spots.  That's probably why only 2 good drivers are on the list.

I don't think making this list is impressive. The most overtakes award is just code for being bad at qualifying. Lance Stroll usually leads this list most years, and if you look at this year's list, it's no different.   Leclerc only made the list because he gained 16 positions in Abu Dabhi after a grid penalty.   Other than that, this looks like a list of the worst qualifiers on the grid this year.  Lewis has been especially dreadful qualifying all year. It'll be interesting to see what his qualifying form is in 2025 to see how much this was a Lewis issue versus an MB/leaving the team and not having the best info problem.

Wonder why they didn’t go after Sainz, a proven driver with race pace, wins, and poles. Or maybe they did, and Carlos told them to “fuck right off.”

I imagine the contract he signed with Williams in July wouldn't have allowed it. Gotta think being the clear cut #2 at Red Bull still beats driving a Williams' car.

Allegedly they did but Max blocked it, according to Eddie Jordan.

Liam Lawson in one of the three best cars on the grid is a joke, but I’m sure he’ll be better than 2024 Perez.

It would make sense that Max is blocking better candidates like Sainz, because otherwise it’s truly inexplicable how terrible RB has managed their second driver compared to how well they manage every other aspect of their team.

Thought I read somewhere that Jos and Carlos Sr. hate each other and that was part of the reason it didn't happen.

Really would've loved to see Carlos in the RBR instead of the damn Williams.

Counterpoint: he flipped off someone who is ostensibly his teammate mid-race in like his 3rd ever F1 race. He should be given the fastest car exclusively because of that.

George is such a little bitch. The Brit version of Richie Rich.

Fairly true, but at the same time, I don't mind when the drivers let their real emotions show.  I get so tired of cleaned and whitewashed sports where fierce competitors are expected to act like they all love each other.

In for another season. Thanks to all of you in advance for your insights and discussion - although I've been following for decades, so many of you know a lot more than I do about the intricacies of the sport. Should be a great year of racing. Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals!

Ferrari gave Sainz the car he drove in his first Grand Prix win.

Carlos Sainz bid an emotional farewell to Ferrari after four years with the team and to honor his contributions and commemorate his time with the Scuderia, Ferrari presented him with the SF-75 F1 car, which powered him to his very first Formula 1 victory at the 2022 British Grand Prix.

Pretty awesome of Ferrari for doing that. But they should’ve signed him for another 2 years instead of bringing in Hamilton.

Very cool of them to do

Out of the blue my daughter has gotten into F1. She’s been watching drive to survive a lot and top gear/GT

I assume it has something to do with her about to get her drivers license. Or maybe the Apple doesn’t fall.

Lol. The only part you might have gotten right is the apple falling part but only if you’re into hot men with accents.

LOL my boy & I have so few fucks left to give that we're just getting around to watching Abu  Dhabi. Watching GP Sunday just now they had Ted interviewing Brad Pitt, then Danica says "it's not like Brad is the only actor that loves racing. There's Jason Priestley, Frankie Munoz, and Patrick Dempsey".  (Surely she meant Muniz, but those immigrant names probably all sound alike to Danica)

LOL, those are the most prominent actors in racing that she could think of? I guess she forgot about those chumps McQueen, Newman, and Garner, among other notables. More recently there's also Fassbender (who's actually pretty good, and others.

Trivial tidbit: Our own Walter Cronkite was a racer, and raced in fields that included Phil Hill, Bruce McLaren, his friend Stirling Moss, and Dan Gurney. He even raced in and finished the 1959 12H of Sebring, and apparently was Jeremy Clarkson before Jeremy Clarkson was Jeremy Clarkson ... https://www.thedrive.com/article/474/walter-cronkite-was-the-original-jeremy-clarkson

[cronkitevoice] What starts here ... 🤘 [/cronkitevoice]

Lolwut.

I have a man crush on Carlos. NTTAWWT

Also, he’s been a good team mate and a professional the past year. That goes a long way.

Finally got around to watching Senna on Netflix.  Pretty good, a little cheesy, but still good.  Was Proust that much of a little bitch?
