It was ok when we got it in 2023, but it wasn't worth the extra money, really. But this deal could end our access to F1TV if whomever wins the rights also negotiates the rights to all the added content that comes on F1TV. That's already the case in some countries.

Yeah, F1TV works well but I can't imagine whoever gets the new deal will let it continue.

I would be shocked if this doesn’t happen. It would be very dumb for a network to pony up for the US rights without getting full exclusivity.

ESPN has been great rebroadcasting sky with lack of commercials. Hopefully Netflix or someone other than nbc does the same. Please just don’t be nbc/ peacock with Lee diffey. Can’t even imagine how bad the will fuck it up now with trying to force everything on the peacock deal.

I hate being told to press the sky sports button on my remote to access team coms and blah blah blah. ESPN didn't do fuck all to promote the sport. I honestly wouldn't mind if it's Netflix because at least they seem like they care because they can make a buck off it.

If it's NBC, we'll be soooo fucked. So. Many. Commercials. They make everything damn near unwatchable. NBC ruins every sport they touch.

Monaco is Monaco but if you are having to make single track specific rules sound mandatory pit stops it shouldn't be on the calendar. That's not a solution, that's not better racing, that's not a winning option for teams, drivers, fans or television.

Seriously, that's the BEST IDEA they can come up with?

Just to be clear, I love the race and watch it live...but it needs updates if they want to keep it on the calendar, not one off rules around requiring multiple pit stops.

Smaller cars is about the only thing that can help the race.

That said, I don't really care.  It's Monaco.  The day that race drops off the calendar is probably the day I stop watching F1.

I don't hate Leigh Diffey, and I think he's done well for himself. But his voice is nails on a gd chalkboard to me.

And we have been beyond spoiled to have commercial free F1 for several years. The old Speedvision/SpeedTV days were a fucking dick punch of commercials every 5-7 laps.

This. Beat me to it. Or at least smaller cars that can follow one another closely.

Yeah my buddy is a friend of Leigh's and says he is as nice of a guy as you could ever hope to meet, but he doesn't like his commentary either. And yeah, going back to NBC's commercial breaks would be a beating. I'd just have to watch every race delayed so I could FF  through them. Whoever gets the next contract, they'd probably be wise to seek out sponsors who would allow for ad-free races, at a minimum.

This car needed more green, not less:

Cowards def should've gone full green.

The Ferrari is tragic, sure it's nice having sponsors, but damn.

Pretty sad when vcarb might have the best livery. But honestly, they all suck.

I'm liking that RB a whole lot. IMHO if one of RB and RBR were going to go white, it shoulda been RBR, leaving RB free to continue running last year's gorgeous livery. The AM will be a dog again this year, but at least it's still gorgeous.  The Merc & RBR are samey samey, but still look good. The rest are ass. McLaren's camo (or whatever they called it) livery would be better than what they're rolling out there nowadays. Haas & BWT wtf?

I like the Duracell Williams.

This. Sadly it seems like none of engine manufacturers want to invest in V-10s anymore.

I'm pretty sure this is an unpopular opinion and I'm probably the only one around here who feels this way, but I don't get excited or even interested in the various helmet designs.  Most of them are so busy, they just don't make a distinct, cohesive impression on me.

The obvious exception was this one:

F1 Australian Grand Prix - Texas forever! Daniel Ricciardo ...

I’m with you on that. Occasionally there will be one I notice that interests me but it’s pretty rare. That ric one was awesome

They all suck. The only time we get anything good is when they do retro liveries. Like when Ferrari does the total blood red (because they can't do Marlboro) or McLaren goes gulf.

It isn't rocket surgery. These guys can fuck up a wet dream.

Are testing parts/engines etc outside of each team’s season allocation?

Yes, so they burn through loads of engines on test beds to make their alloted race PUs reliable enough to last the season while getting the best performance possible. Very 'green', right? Disclaimer: I don't really care if racing is green or how many engines they build and destroy, because it's racing. Racing never was and never will be 'green'. What pisses me off is introducing idiotic parts limits that fuck up the sport, in a greenwashing attempt to appear sustainable, when the sport couldn't be farther from that.

And no limit on car parts is ever going to offset all of the cargo and private jets flying around the globe for the races.

Exactly. For example, 2022 had the following stretch of races:

* Melbourne

* Imola

* Miami

* Barcelona (You serious, Clark? Europe, US, then right back to Europe?)

* Monaco

* Baku

* Montreal

* Silverstone

That’s a hell of a lot of private jets & cargo planes going back and forth across the globe.

It's a couple years old now but this is a pretty good video that details the logistics.

Their predictions for the 2025 season........

#1

There is no doubt what the biggest story is of 2025: it’s Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, of course, as the GOAT joins the Prancing Horse.

Last year was among the most competitive at the top end of the grid but Hamilton frequently found himself at the trailing edge of that front-running group, save for a couple of standout results. How much was on him, how much on the car, and how much down to the weird circumstance of a protracted divorce from Mercedes?

Whatever the past, Hamilton has a fresh start, and Melbourne will be the season opener for the first time since 2019 (let’s ignore 2020, okay). Melbourne races can be chaotic, and laced with unpredictability, so we’ll go bold and tip Hamilton to take an unlikely victory in a wild opener that sets the tone for a mega 2025.
