Cadillac officially granted place on Formula 1 grid for 2026

Cadillac will join the Formula 1 grid as a competitor for the first time next year, the championship has confirmed.

The F1 grid will grow to 22 cars for the first time since the 2016 season in order to accommodate the arrival of the General Motors brand.

The confirmation of Cadillac’s arrival comes over two years after the FIA invited applicants to join the world championship. In October 2023 it selected the entry from Andretti Global to join the grid.

Cadillac announced in November 2023 it would join the Andretti as a power unit supplier in 2028. But despite the backing of the American carmaking giant, Formula One Management blocked Andretti’s entry in January last year.

Following months of further lobbying by Cadillac and the FIA, FOM relented. In November last year it announced the team, now rebranded as Cadillac and operated by TWG Motorsports, had an agreement in principle to join the grid.

I watched most of DTS today and Red Bull’s new driver, Liam Lawson, comes across as very cunty. He’ll fit right in.

Haven't seen any new DTS yet, but yeah, he's come across that way to me from day 1. I bet he really hits it off with guys like George and Ocon.

ONE WEEK PEOPLE!!

Binge watched it yesterday...then it rolled over to season 1 episode 1.  I don't want to admit how much time we wasted watching season 1 too.   Lol...can't wait for real racing next week!

Has DTS always been this scripted?  Using the wives to prompt talking points over breakfast and having all the principals film the Carlos decision seems egregious.

Season 1 was great. Did not feel super scripted. It’s gotten worse as time has gone on. I wish they would just do it NFL Film style where they would mostly stick to the races and some basic behind the scenes stuff.

Agree.  But I still enjoy it, because F1. :)

Yes. It's basically fiction being passed off as reality. Like most/all of 'reality' tv.

Can't find FP3 in my yttv listings either, but it's listed on ESPN3/ESPN+. 825PM Friday. ETA: FP3 is also listed on ESPN Deportes for some reason.

Saw they launched the F1 TV Premium app and it has a multiview setting that looks cool. Though it would appear that only works on AppleTV/Chrome browsers and since I use Shields for all my TV's I am SOL there. $17/month isn't terrible though.

You absolutely need multiviewer

This has to do with 24 season since I just started Netflix, but why in the hell was Zak brown not in Azerbaijan?  They certainly glossed over the fact that a team principal was just telecommuting to work in the middle of a constructors cup race.

He’s the McLaren Racing CEO, not the F1 team principal. So his job includes things like IndyCar and other racing series so he was probably at a different race.

Rain plus more than a few rookies plus Lance…

Shouldn’t be boring.

On one hand, rain and mixed conditions generally make races more exciting, but I’d prefer no rain in the first few races to actually get to see teams’ performance levels. Either way, we finally get F1 back!

This year is our year (even though it probably isn’t)! Forza Ferrari!

Huge get for them to have F2 and F3 this year. I follow F2 fairly closely throughout the year (it's basically European Indycar IMO), and I would kill to have F3 and F2 at COTA.

Yep, and of course there's 4 V8SC races, which is worth the price of admission all by itself.

Holy shit I just checked the prices. 4 day GA, including access to all GSs on Thursday  ---  $194 US.

Their 2 most expensive grandstands? $471. That's about the same as GA here, after Ticketmaster fees. IIRC the price for GA here this year will be $390.

Nice. Me & my 21 yo were there in Daytona when they were shooting. Hell, we might be in the movie. Still can't believe they named it "F1" though.

Using 'The Chain' as the background song there is smart, tho. Used to be the intro song for the Brits' F1 broadcasts.

I watched the replay of FP1 and FP2. Lewis seems like he’s going to take some time to get up to speed with the car, and I’m also not sure what his ceiling is anymore at this age. It’s possible he gets to 95% of 2021 Lewis or maybe those days are gone. He was so inconsistent at Merc the last three years, but that might’ve just been the car. I’ll be interested to see how he’s performing 10 races in.

Merc still seem to have an inconsistent car they don’t understand.

McLaren looks good out of the box and both drivers are performing well. Hard to say what kind of lead they have over the field. The Ferrari in Leclerc’s hands looked great in one lap and race pace. He looks like the most likely challenger to McLaren this race so far. Ferrari ran the Australia rear wing in Bahrain testing, so they had way lower downforce than usual and apparently they ran very high fuel all the time, so some of the issues with the car at testing might have been overblown.

All this could be dead wrong in about 12 hours, but I can’t wait to find out.

Whoever had Bearman and Haas as the first driver or team to chuck the car into the wall…. You win.

I liked George crashing with under a minute left in FP1.  Bro - just bring the car home in 1 piece.

Are we sure that's not a newly unearthed photo from Lewis's totally not drunk night of Monaco collisions a few years ago? : )
