Jesus, the balls of these drivers to take a crash like Doohan's (granted, a totally self-inflicted one) and be expected to go out the next day and take the first corner at 160 mph.

I have seen some of the worst crashes at half-mile dirt tracks. And it is horrible to see and be so close, physically and emotionally, with the drivers.  One of the worst I ever saw & heard was the night Sammy Swindell slammed right into the back of a push truck.  The sound was scary

Moar fire immediately before the red flag.

That's why it's a young man's sport mostly.  As the drivers age, they start to think about things like that.  I think it's a big part of Checo's downfall.

Uh. No.

Second car is their downfall.

Checo has point blank said in Spanish interviews that he’s doesn’t think about death or injuries. It’s just not in their DNA…and he said that a year or two ago, with a family.

Just finished watching from the DVR. Pretty interesting. Great lap by Max to pull that pole position. Pretty funny with Lawson and Yuki. Did make me laugh. I’m happy to see the Haas & Williams cars being in the mix.

Max is a wizard. Car's been unimpressive/tricky all week, and he pulls that out of his ass. Don't know if he has much chance of holding off the McLarens (cleanly), but will certainly make things more entertaining.

I just want anyone but Lando to win at this point.

I’m ready for the circus to get back to Europe. These middle-of-the -night races suck.

Preach.

DVR for sure. Stay out of forums and social media and watch at a normal time in the morning without having a clue as to what happened.

Max just reminding all of us he's an all time great even if he's in a bad car.  George and Kimi qualified 5th and 6th, but Kimi was about .8 seconds off George on most runs during quali. George flubbed his last Q3 run and Kimi put it together, but he's still .3 off George. I think George will be very flattered by having a rookie teammate this season. The Merc actually appears to be the second best car. It'll be interesting to see how much Kimi gets up to speed by the end of the year.

Ferrari still seem to be a bit of a inconsistent mess. Lewis is well off the pace again. Nice job by Charles to take advantage of George screwing up and grabbing 4th. That was the highest he could've got today.

Unless there's a lot of weather and maybe even then, I see McLaren having significantly better race pace than everyone else. It'll be interesting to see if Lando and Max fight early on. Could allow Oscar to get another win.

I think, and I agree with you, that by the halfway point of the season that the Mercedes will be solidly the second-best car. Where Max fits in the group remains to be seen. If they can get the front end figured out I think Max can make another run.

I think it will be a lot of fun.

I don't know how to find the account consistently, but the one that does the overlays of qualy laps was outstanding for today.  Almost identical placement for the 1st 60% of the race, then Lando has a car length lead at about 80-85%, and Max reels him in in the final bit and pips him at the line.

You can see Max late brakes on tight turns and is aggressive through the chicane, will Lando tries to carry speed.

I read/saw somewhere that Max braked a full 25m later on that last corner before the chicane and still made the apex, where he closed the entirety of that car length gap.

That translates to about 0.23 seconds, which seems like nothing to us mere mortals, but must feel like an eternity at 180mph.

How bad are the McLaren strategists? 2 of the best drivers in the undeniably fastest cars and then you don’t even try

Seriously. How tough of a sell would it have been to tell Lando to give Oscar a go, and if he can't pass Max, they'll swap back on the last lap. No harm, no foul. Lando is treated like the clear cut #1, and I don't understand why.
