The ref, David Smith, played in victory on this very field as qb for Alabama in 1986 in a breakout game for both Bobby Humphrey and Derrick Thomas. Thomas sacked the Penn State qb so hard he walked into the Bama defensive huddle on the following play and Joe Pa had to call time out from the sidline. Humphrey had a couple of long Td runs and big yards for the day.  Smith, who had feet of clay, tried to run in the red zone and went down “like a British heavyweight,” Brent Musberger said on the call that night.  Bama won by 20 or so.  Big upset for Bill Curry as PSU were defending champs.  Florida and Emmitt Smith brought us back down to Earth the following week in Birmingham.

This all sucks. Hate it for Jennings but pretty great ride of a season. Hoping the Horns will make this a much better evening.

Great fucking season. To follow a great season.

We need to learn from this and adjust and take it into next year.

We can obviously hang with these teams. Jennings gave this away but we wouldn't be here without him.

I don't see how that is obvious at all.
