Then why open your self up to criticism by saying Bijan-esque. Just say that the guy survives first contact well and and is surprisingly shifty in tight spaces.

The suffix -esque means “like” or “resembling.”

It's not a 1:1 comparison, man. I guess I should have said Bijan-lite or some shit like that. Many of his highlights are similar against similar competition. But he's obviously not the same caliber player.

I think it has more to do with being in Jerry World and seeing them live in their best effort of the year vs pure conference affiliation.  3 star Matt Campbell try hards have a hard ceiling, but they did beat some pretty good OU and UT squads over the years, and hung reasonably well against a Texas team of similar talent level to this one a year ago.  Texas (and OU for that matter) never whipped a Matt Campbell try hard team as soundly ASU just did.

I'm in no way predicting that ASU even makes this a game, really.  I just don't agree that they're the worst team in the playoff, and there are some concrete examples to back up that opinion - not just pure bias (and obviously I'm biased).  Clemson absolutely has more on-paper talent than ASU, but outside of truly elite talent (which Clemson doesn't have) you regularly see better coached teams win against more talented ones.  I can't see ASU dropping a home game to Louisville like Clemson did.  ASU has one bad loss, and it was a road game without their QB.

ASU is one or two plays away from having Ls to Mississippi State, Texas State, Kansas, Utah, UCF, and BYU.

That was also with a 1k WR in Tyson who is out for the playoffs. Without Tyson, I don't think there's a doubt that the worst team in the playoffs is either ASU or Boise State.

This would be a 4 to 5 loss team if Tyson didn't go off against several of those teams mentioned above.

ASU is possibly the worst team in the entire playoff. Texas will take them very seriously, but even Clemson had no shot. Texas looked on a completely different level speed wise on offense and the defense absolutely dominated the line of scrimmage.

get the W

stay healthy

move on to the next round

7/13 games have come against defenses ranked outside the top 75 in rush defense.

Reminds me a lot of Indiana boasting a top 5 run defense when the vast majority of their games were against teams in the bottom 50 in rushing offense.  ND then rushed for 193 yards on them.

ISU has 5 wins against Texas. 3 of those were against the worst teams for Texas in the last 26 years. The other 2 were against Tom Herman and the second loss for him sealed the deal on getting him fired. Hold the memories high in your heart all you want, but they’re more a reflection of the futility of Texas football in the Late Mack/Chuckles/Herman decade than anything else.

Regarding last season, did you ever really think ISU was going to win that game? I didn’t. Texas methodically took care of business on the road against an inferior opponent and got out of town quickly.

Campbell is a choker. A coelenterate of the college football landscape. The minute he has to deal with actual expectations, he shits himself and does his level best to drag his team down with him. That’s what you witnessed in Jerryworld. It wasn’t some herculean performance by ASU. It was mostly Iowa State not jihading a game as they would often do for Texas and Oklahoma.

As to the coaching premise of Arizona State or Iowa State versus Clemson, ummm, I’m taking the guy and program who have won 2 national titles and played for several others in the last decade.

No one thinks ASU is a shit team, but they’re one of the 3 worst in the playoff.  They wouldn’t have beaten Tennessee or Clemson. The talent gap is massive even with those teams.

I'm not talking about Gibson. I'm talking our current stable of healthy RBs.

Bijan-esque doesn't mean he's Bijan. It means some of his highlights resemble Bijan's. There are numerous games where he has multiple highlights of him breaking three or four tackles while cutting back across the field like Bijan did. He's a really good RB. This isn't Toby Gerhart.

Did you watch that highlight reel or just link it? I just watched it and I have no fucking idea where you are pulling your analysis from. He looks like a guy who running into with your face doesn't get the tackle made. He is regularly caught by people from behind and he is quick more than he is fast with enormous gaps because they are playing G5 nobodies and Mississippi state.

He would be nowhere near RB1 at Texas.

He's not bad, but he's by no means even on the level of Blue, or Wisner let alone Gibson.

Lmao. Just hilarious that you are even making this argument in a serious capacity. You said he's Bijan-esque and would be RB1 here. You are completely wrong, seriously be ashamed.

I'm not saying he's bad, I'm saying your comparison to anything Texas has been so far off its wild that you even are being taken seriously.

The ASU vs ISU result was as predictable as any outcome all season.

Iowa State has the #103 rush defense in the country so this was a perfect matchup for ASU. I think a lot of people watched the Big 12 championship game not realizing Iowa State has one of the worst rush defenses in the country.

You posted high school highlights of Blue?...

Skattebo can also pass block and has zero fumbles his entire college career. He's a legit player. He would absolutely take PT from our entire healthy RB roster.

Nonetheless, I won't post further to clog up the discussion.

Come on. Skattebo would certainly play for Texas. He would be the reliable power RB that Texas has missed this season. That said there are not a lot of other players that would be major contributors.

Appreciate it! Will be interesting to see.

The only archives I can find are 2023 and prior.  Using today's data, which is obviously (slightly) influenced by the playoff games that have already taken place:

Texas minus 9.5 (actually 14, not too bad)

Ohio State minus 8 (actually 25, huge miss)

Penn State minus 7.6 (actually 28, huge miss)

Notre Dame minus 7.6 (actually 10, pretty good)

So, eh.  He got all the winners, though.

Nice...I personally think we win this by 14-17 points, maybe even more.

ASU is a team of scrappy guys with a few above-average talents mixed in riding some good old-fashioned Ted Lasso BELIEVE.  6 game win streak, after some early losses and close calls against teams you wouldn't normally expect conference champion playoff teams to be having close calls against.  There's power to that, so I suggested that we get out early, get up by 2, or 3 possessions, and strangle that belief out of them.  Sark needs to take points that extend leads (especially if it tips things from 1 possession to 2, 2 possessions to 3) every time he has the opportunity.  They are not some team of dregs. They are mid to slightly above mid level talent with what appears to be an excellent coach who has them pretty motivated. The best way to handle is to put them down early.

Guys, the reminder is that Texas has never played a back lack Skattebo.  If he was aggy, he'd have a name like C-Scat and we'd be truly doomed.   Our front 7 has only beaten up on weak teams all year and really are just a bunch of pussies once hit in the mouth.  They better go after only his ankles or they will splat like a fattened mosquito on a windshield on I-35.   Even then, we'll need 2 on each ankle if there is any hope of slowing down the mighty Scattebo.   D-line, you got no chance.   Texas 18, Skat - 80 (10 tuddies and all the 2pt conversions).

against the big 12 slate no less.

Campbell loves to play the 3 star players/5 star culture card and "chip on the shoulder" card to the hilt.  He couldn't play the first card against ASU and ASU apparently had a much bigger 2nd card.

It is hard to play those cards for an entire season but he does have ISU winning about 8 a year and going to bowls.  he's a step or 2 below Gundy. Both schools are in the same position, interestingly.  They'd like to get to the next level but they can only see the downside of changing.

C-scat would be hilarious but knowing aggy it would be Cam-bo(long O).

FEI has them at 13. Clemson was 15.

You can argue that ASU is a better team than Clemson. I would say the sum is better than the parts for ASU. The parts are better than the sum for Clemson, especially on the defense. That said Clemson's A game is better than ASU's. Tough to see how ASU stays in this. I would assume they try to play keep away on offense. PK likes to play a bit of bend and not break defense, so possible that ASU can grind out some time consuming drives. On defense they dont get a lot of pressure. I can see them playing bend and dont break there. Praying that Texas struggles in the red zone. I think if Texas plays a C- game this still might be something like a 23-13 game that is annoying, but never in doubt.

Comparable opponent to ASU?

They remind me a lot of Kansas last year. Good offense that leans on a good RB (Neal for Kansas), bad special teams, and mediocre to bad defense. I would say the only difference is ASU's D is a tier above that Kansas defense.

People said the same thing about Clemson. The initial 10.5 line was free money and that was with RB1, center, and RT injured most of the game.

The ACC was a fraud like a lot of people realized in that game thread and the same thing will be obvious about the Big 12.
