I'm not talking about Gibson. I'm talking our current stable of healthy RBs.

Bijan-esque doesn't mean he's Bijan - he's not Bijan. It means some of his highlights resemble Bijan's. There are numerous games where he has multiple highlights of him breaking three or four tackles while cutting back across the field like Bijan did. The bulk of Bijan's same highlights came against the same level of Big12 talent Skattebo's have. He's a really good RB. This isn't Toby Gerhart.

someone else if they have time can catalog each play but he is not some kind of untackleable cyborg

half of those highlights are him catching a ball in space, walking in to the endzone untouched and/or being brought down by GASP! arm tackles! of the jersey or the ankles!

yes he is a bowling ball

hill and gbenda can take him

IMO Clemson would beat Arizona St

I just think the funniest part is people arguing this just proves that we will roll ASU.

We beat Clemson by 14 with our RB1, center, and RT injured. Klubnik also played a lot better than he had in some other games. SP+ postgame win expectancy showed we should have won this game by 16 points.

If you run back Texas vs Clemson, I bet we win by more than 14 points. If Clemson and ASU are comparable this is not going to be a close game.

against the big 12 slate no less.

Campbell loves to play the 3 star players/5 star culture card and "chip on the shoulder" card to the hilt.  He couldn't play the first card against ASU and ASU apparently had a much bigger 2nd card.

It is hard to play those cards for an entire season but he does have ISU winning about 8 a year and going to bowls.  he's a step or 2 below Gundy. Both schools are in the same position, interestingly.  They'd like to get to the next level but they can only see the downside of changing.

Every single pre-season LB starter ended up missing the vast majority of the season, which is why our run defense was shit.  The backups started putting it together and really limited KSU in Farmageddon, which made me optimistic about stopping Skattebo.  Obviously that was misplaced.

Campbell plays those cards because that's who he is.  It's also the reason a school like ISU is the perfect home for him.  He wouldn't relate to 5 star talent kids for shit, and wouldn't fit into blue blood culture in any way, shape or form.  He'd be a disaster at the level, and I think he knows that.

We are going to sell out on Skattebo.

With no Tyson, their next best WR on the year has 320 yards receiving. We should have 2 or 3 guys spying Skattebo until anybody else shows they can beat us.

We'll play them with a shell to avoid big play. Force Skattebo to go east/west.

FEI has them at 13. Clemson was 15.

You can argue that ASU is a better team than Clemson. I would say the sum is better than the parts for ASU. The parts are better than the sum for Clemson, especially on the defense. That said Clemson's A game is better than ASU's. Tough to see how ASU stays in this. I would assume they try to play keep away on offense. PK likes to play a bit of bend and not break defense, so possible that ASU can grind out some time consuming drives. On defense they dont get a lot of pressure. I can see them playing bend and dont break there. Praying that Texas struggles in the red zone. I think if Texas plays a C- game this still might be something like a 23-13 game that is annoying, but never in doubt.

Agreed. Clemson has more talent, particularly at defensive line, quarterback, and wide receiver—players who will likely be playing or holding a clipboard on Sunday in a season or two. With depth and a coaching staff experienced in high-pressure games, even Clemson has a clear edge over Arizona State.

That defensive front would likely dominate, disrupting ASU's ability to run or protect its quarterback. ASU has also struggled against equally talented teams where Skattaboo gets fewer than 20 carries because they're throwing more, which doesn't bode well against either Clemson or Texas. While ASU might try to throw, the Tigers’  pass rush would make this a difficult task, and if they do bottle up Skattaboo - say "goodnight." Cade Klubnik (did you know he went to "Westlake"? — drink!) would exploit mismatches in ASU’s secondary and linebacking corps. A dominant defense and a polished offense would control the game from start to finish. Clemson 38, Arizona State 17.

That said, we're doomed.

Here is the thing on Clemson. They have NFL talent on that defense. They still somehow managed to be the worse team in the ACC giving up explosive runs. That happens when talented guys are continually getting out of their gap responsibilities. They give up big plays, because they are not disciplined on defense. Not that I think it is going to make a difference, but take a guess who has the higher rated QB by QBR. Its actually Leavitt (10th in the country by QBR). I think he is a less talented version of Klubnick, but a good college QB (but not one that can carry his team). While I would certainly bet Clemson to beat ASU, based on talent. The actual play on the field says it would be closer, than how the match-up looks like on paper. I thought Texas would win comfortably vs Clemson and I think they win comfortably vs ASU. It would take playing one of the worse games of the season for Texas to lose this game.

IMO make the QB beat you.

100 yard rushers Texas has given up:

Justin Marshall - Colorado St: 25 carries 106 yards(4.2 YPC) 0 TD
Ja'Kobi Jackson - Florida: 19 carries for 116 yards(6.1 YPC) 1 TD - Came in second half when Texas was up 42-0
Trevor Etienne - Georgia(2 games): 35 carries for 181 yards(5.2 YPC) 5 TDs

Trevor Etienne was the best RB we've faced this season and he chopped us up but Arizona St isn't Georgia. So I just included both his games as one.

Skattebo is the best playmaker we will have seen so far. I watched that game, a night game on ESPN. The Bobcats had opened up a respectable lead, and it looked like ASU was going to roll over, but they fought back. It was a slugfest in the 2nd half, but Skattebo made some clutch plays to keep ASU's drives alive, eat up the clock, and keep the San Marcans from rushing the field in a game they felt like they were going to win. The Sun Devils are much better today than they were on that night, and although I wasn't impressed with the team back then, I was very impressed by Skattebo as a playmaker.

How many Texas guys portaled over to ASU by the way?

We should win this game however I will tell you right now it will be a long day if we try and tackle Skattebo above the knees, especially the first guy.

You have repeated this ad nauseum, but whatever coach was doing the halftime show of the Big 12 championship game (don’t remember who it was) was adamant that Skibidi has to be tackled high to get him off balance and to the ground, that attempting to tackle him low would allow him to keep on running.

We have seen good running backs before, whoopee. ASU has a locker room full of guys we processed. They are in the playoffs because they ended the season on top of the very-evenly-matched Big 12. They have not "been there before." They have already exceeded their season goals. They will fold up like a cheap tent. We are going to mudhole them.  Preseason rankings don't tell everything, but they offer some insight into the talent pool at each school-- talent that needs to be deep in order to compete in the post-season. The lesson so far in this year's playoffs is that those teams that started out the season as playoff afterthoughts turned out to be, wait for it, playoff afterthoughts. Not all those teams have had the chance yet to be eliminated. We will oblige ASU on NYD. Mud. Hole. Hook'em!

I'll be driving down to the game from Nashville with 5-6 fellow Longhorns. Can anyone who attended the SECC game recommend where to park/tailgate/etc. before the game?

Stats (sports bar close to the stadium) was rec I got from an Atlanta client and thought it was really solid.  Good bar food etc.   First come first serve tables and there was a small (think like $5) cover.  Obviously not as much time to pregame with a 1PM start but would be a good place to circle back and watch games afterwards as well.

ASU is a team of scrappy guys with a few above-average talents mixed in riding some good old-fashioned Ted Lasso BELIEVE.  6 game win streak, after some early losses and close calls against teams you wouldn't normally expect conference champion playoff teams to be having close calls against.  There's power to that, so I suggested that we get out early, get up by 2, or 3 possessions, and strangle that belief out of them.  Sark needs to take points that extend leads (especially if it tips things from 1 possession to 2, 2 possessions to 3) every time he has the opportunity.  They are not some team of dregs. They are mid to slightly above mid level talent with what appears to be an excellent coach who has them pretty motivated. The best way to handle is to put them down early.

The best way to handle them is for the DL & LB's to play disciplined football. The edges need to contain while the front needs to play sound gap assignments -- press and collapse the pocket. The QB is a good scrambler and of course Skattaboo. Those are the two impact players that could cause issues if the defense comes to play stupid. PK has shown he can scheme for these kinds of threats before, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Cliff notes?

this guy's entire rationale for beating us:

everyone nationwide that does not support Texas are going to collectively wishcast an asu win in to reality

&

they are more pissed off than any other playoff team and therefore they are going to hit us harder than we have been hit in years

zero mention of any X's & O's - no player names - no matchups - no gameplan - no discussion of how they are going to compete - no discussion of what they are going to do to win

they just are
