Mascots are cute. Mascots are cool. Mascots make no fucking difference in who wins or loses.

Plus those georgia peach nuts are still pissed after the Bevo vs. mouthbreathing dog incident.

On a positive note. Here we are in the playoffs about to curb stomp ASU. And this boards concern is our mascot.

Indiana is thinking about re-introducing a mascot. The front runner is to bring back the american bison which they last had as a mascot in the 1960s.

Good for them. That is a cool animal. How did they do in the Playoffs?

My best friend in graduate school went there and my dad did his residency there, so I have nothing but goodwill. Anyway, I think the point is that if Indiana had a mascot, they would have won it all.

Quote

The string of temporary mascots started with an owl in 1908 (Hoo, Hoo, Hoo, Hoosiers!) and was shortly followed by a raccoon in 1909. Then-athletic trainer “Bernie” Bernstein’s toddler son represented Indiana in 1912, and a golden eagle nicknamed Jim Watson served a stint in 1916. Lack of support from students and fans alike put an end to their brief mascot careers.

Two dogs stole the hearts of Hoosiers, with a collie serving as IU’s mascot in 1935 and a fraternity bulldog named Ox almost earning the job in 1959. Ox belonged to the Theta Chi house, but didn’t quite make the cut to represent the university.

After over 40 years of failed attempts, IU adopted a promising figure: the bison. An animal once native to Bloomington and showcased on the Indiana state seal, the bison was voted by the student senate to serve as the official mascot in 1965.

I don't disagree. It's a bit strange that some people here are bewildered that Texas fans would have an issue with Bevo not being able to attend but then also have an issue with a suggestion that there just be a blanket rule that live mascots only attend home games. Do they matter or not?

If I were just trying to be spiteful then I'd suggest that Texas institute a rule specific to dogs and men dressed like milk men.

I agree and I said as much about the SEC championship. They should ban all live mascots. And we should ban all live mascots at our stadium other than Bevo. I do believe this stems from the Bevo-Uga incident at the Sugar Bowl. Fuck ‘em.

Look, if it makes you guys feel better to buy in to this stadium configuration bullshit, then be my guest. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

But open your eyes!  It’s a big fat fucking lie. Maybe, just maybe, we can look beyond the surface to see what’s really going on here: Chick-fil-A is the sponsor and they’re running the Peach Bowl with their hard core anti-beef agenda. The Deep Poultry State will go to any length to protect its own interests. Starting, obviously, with banning Bevo from the sidelines.

You know it and I know it: Big Chicken hates everything that Bevo represents. Namely, hamburgers. And steaks. And brisket. And a bunch of other delicious shit that isn’t shitty ass chicken. They live in fear of what having Bevo on the sideline would do to them. Maybe we could appease them if we hung one of those denigrating “Eat Mor Chikin” signs around his neck? Maybe then they would be more inclined to put on their big girl panties and take out a seat or two so we can fit our beloved cow into the stadium? You think that ad campaign was an accident? Fuck. All. That.

If they outlaw mascots only outlaws will have mascots.

Better than aggy.

Sad but true: teams from the BDF (Big Dumpster Fire, in aigy parlance) who are in teh Playoffs.

And Indiana.  And SMU.  That same SMU who pushed a Corps Turd while he was brandishing a sword at a SMU boy cheerleader. It ain't fair.

(EDIT: THIS JUST IN FROM TEXAGS):

Mercedes-Benz Stadium opened in 2017. Nobody knew shit about Texas joining the SEC until 2021. Their policy is their policy. No Bevo sucks, but there’s no malice behind it.

That said, aggy is already writing fan fiction about how the sips are demanding the SEC Championship Game be moved to Jerryworld. “Open your eyes lame street media! The sips already got SEC Media Days moved!”

CSB alert/ We set up Skittlebrau as a blind taste test at a grad school happy hour once.

Results confirmed our expected hypotheses. Citrus ones with light beers were the "best". Anything with grape is horrible.

It should rotate between Atlanta, New Orleans, and Dallas.

I could live with that, and I think most of the SEC could too.

Despite all the clatter, I don’t think the conference championship games are going anywhere.. Almost 17 million people watched Georgia-Texas.

Jerryworld should be the site for the National Championship game, with it being more of a central location to the rest of the 48 states.
I wonder why that isn't already a thing.

I asked the AI about it.

------------

Jerryworld, or as it's officially known, AT&T Stadium, is a spectacular venue, but it's not used for the College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship game for a few key reasons:

*   **Bidding Process and Rotation:** The CFP National Championship game location is determined through a competitive bidding process, much like the Super Bowl. Cities and stadiums across the country put together proposals to host the game. The CFP then selects a site based on a variety of factors, including stadium quality, infrastructure, hotel availability, transportation, and the overall experience offered to fans and teams. The goal is to rotate the game among different regions and high-quality venues.
*   **Desire for Neutrality and Variety:** The CFP aims to provide a neutral site for the championship game, similar to the Super Bowl. This ensures that neither team has a home-field advantage. Rotating the game among different cities and regions also allows more fans across the country to potentially experience the event. AT&T Stadium would give the Dallas-Fort Worth area more championship games than the CFP would like in its rotation, as the stadium frequently hosts the Cotton Bowl.
*   **Other Major Events at AT&T Stadium:** Jerryworld already hosts numerous major events throughout the year, including Dallas Cowboys games, the Cotton Bowl Classic, major concerts, and other sporting events. Adding the CFP National Championship to its schedule could pose logistical challenges.
*   **Financial Considerations:** The financial arrangements and revenue-sharing agreements between the CFP and the host city/stadium are crucial factors in the selection process. The CFP likely seeks the most favorable financial terms that benefit the organization and its member conferences.
*   **Indoor vs. Outdoor Preference:** While not a hard and fast rule, the CFP has shown a slight preference toward playing the game outdoors if weather conditions permit. This is a nod to the traditional aspects of football, although the practical benefits of indoor stadiums are undeniable.
*   **Date Availability:** AT&T Stadium would have to have the date of the championship game available. Due to the large amount of events held there each year, scheduling is quite complex.

**In summary,** while AT&T Stadium is certainly capable of hosting the CFP National Championship, the game's rotation policy, desire for geographic diversity, bidding process, and logistical considerations mean that it's just one of many potential venues considered each year. It did, however, host the first CFP National Championship in 2015.

Yep it's not a big deal. But because mascots are not a big deal Texas should just enact a policy disallowing any visiting team mascots at conference home games. That would obviously also be no big deal.

this

our best connected shall ensure CDC enacts this policy forthwith

so let it be written

@closetojumping

make it so

It’s interesting the bowl folks and SEC folks made the statement about lack of space for Bevo and not the actual stadium people themselves.

if we get to the final this topic is going to become a PR problem for everyone involved

it would be best to get to the truth now inre: who is actually the bitchass

our cow can sit in one of the tunnels, if beLLmont wants him to

if beLLmont will come out and say "we are okay with our mascot being excluded from any stadium we don't control" then the topic is closed

if beLLmont does not counter this "announcement" re: the mercedes-benz bevo embargo, then prima-facie we are not dtf with this decision, or we are rolling over for ______ who?

it's difficult to "move on" from an open question

i want to know who is making this decision

it needs to be documented in writing while the topic is current - we learned this with aggy and their "standing offer" in 2007

you forgot anyone impersonating a member of the military not actually enrolled in an rotc program

they add logistical complexity we are just not equipped to deal with on gameday

I don't need to tighten the tin foil too much to consider the possibility that UGA/SEC lingering furor over Bevo kicking Uga's ass a few years back might have something to do with this.

the incident in question happened at the superdome, in a different bowl game, we're not playing uga this week and the peach bowl's historical acc-sec tie-ins ended 10 years ago.....

i want to see the written Georgia World Congress policy, the State of Georgia law, or the already released statement on AMB Group LLC stationary above the signature of someone willing to cop to the decision

is this too much to ask?

this hiding behind social media posts with no name, no signature, nothing other than "bevo can't come because reasons" is total bullshit

You should file a FOIA and get to the bottom of this!!!

I thought it was the SEC screwing with us when announced for the conference championship game. Then I went to the game and saw how tight the area was surrounding the field and thought that it made sense to not bring Bevo. Frankly, I think it would be disturbing to the animal to have it there under those circumstances.

Don't stop. Too bad this site does not have any legal eagle members. I am sure one of them can have a flunky knock out a FOIA request as was suggested.

Be the next Randolph Duke please. Fatwa on this bowl vs aggy.
