They need to fix the seeding and the game locations. Georgia should be playing in Atlanta. We should playing in Arlington. Rose Bowl got it right.

But yes, Georgia and Oregon admins are probably deeply pissed they didn’t get a home playoff game. That’ll probably be the first fix.

It's all based on the bowl tie-in. Sugar still gets the SEC champ. If we had beaten Georgia, we would've open in New Orleans, not Arlington. The Rose is always going to opt for the Big 10 champ. Fiesta has been the at-large for a while. Same with the Peach. The only reason Arizona State isn't playing in Arlington is that's the next round. If we're going to keep doing bowl tie ins then either someone needs to forego their tie for the quarters and semis if they host the championship or do the rotator of a non-bowl site. There's zero chance they take the bowl games away.

The only issue I can see is most students have gone home and not coming back. You will lose a lot of the atmosphere of a home game.

Rotate them.

Joel Klatt's idea was to move Army/Navy to week zero and use their old weekend to start the playoff. You'd have more chance of students being on campus if the games started a week earlier.

Can someone please confirm whether the following info about the Big 12 is accurate?

  • There a school in Lubbock or Amarillo
  • There is a school in Houston, and possibly Galveston, too
  • They play by the same rules as Canadian football, with giant end zones, plus they have that rule where you can punt the ball back to the team that just punted
  • Deion Sanders is either a head coach, or maybe he is the commissioner
  • They also go by the nickname of the Mountain West Boys, or something like that, and while it is preferred that their fields are painted blue, it is a guideline, rather than a rule
  • They have several schools in the Brazos River District, and they all share a stadium in Waco
  • Texas A&M University is currently petitioning to join the conference
  • The Arizona State Miners won the Big 12 by beating either San Jose Sate or Fresno State in the Championship Derby held in Winnipeg, Canada

Yeah they won’t take the bowl sites away bc they agreed to it knowing they’d host quarters and semis

Only quarters is historical conference tie-ins. Semis is based on #1’s preference. Oregon picked Dallas over Miami, likely to minimize travel for their fans

I think in a few years we will be to the point where it goes away until semis

The locations are set in stone ahead of time without knowing who the teams are. This year, Arlington is a SF site. You can’t switch the sites based on who the teams are and if they win.

Also, using your example, why would we be playing in Arlington as the 5 seed when the 4 seed would get the advantage? The Rose Bowl didn’t get it right—they just got lucky because of the seeding.

EDIT to add: I thought one of the podcasts were talking about how the Rose Bowl might not be part of the CFP rotation after next year because they really want to keep their January 1st date. They don’t want to give that up. So if they do stay in the rotation, they will only host QF games.

That is weird because VY didnt beat SC on the 1st.

In 2002, the game was on the 3rd and the 1st wasnt a Sunday. In 2010, they had a Rose Bowl game on the 1st and then the national championship with us. Interesting.

Under the BCS when the Rose Bowl(or any other of Sugar, Orange, Fiesta) was also the NC game the game was moved to after Jan 1st.  The Rose Bowl did do all their festivities(parade, etc) on the first those years.

our game in 2006 was the last time the Bowl Game and the NC Game were the same game.  After that the NC Game was completely separate from the Bowls. the 2007 Fiesta Bowl was on Jan 1st (Boise beat dirt burglar) and the BCS champ game was Jan 8(Florida blew out tOSU).

Any thoughts on the Arizona St Qb? Very mobile and decent passer.  Recency bias but I still have ptsd from our pass coverage last season when playing against a decent passing teams.

Leavitt is a good player, especially for a true freshman. He's gotten better every game, so his early season struggles aren't particularly relevant. But with his security blanket gone in Tyson, we'll see how he does against a much better team than Iowa State.

He’s a RS/FR. Transferred from Michigan State to Arizona State.

How mobile is he?

This is an Operation Desert Storrm type match up with ASU being the Iraqis. This will be shock and awe shit for ASU.

Their defense can't contain the Texas offense. Their offense is Scatteboo who will get mauled by our defensive front seven. Leavitt and their receivers will not do shit against the Texas secondary.

Texas controls this game from beginning to end.

With that said, our offense will definitely leave points on the field.

I like the bowl tie ins, the nostalgia is nice. Grew up watching the Jan 1 bowls in awe of the history and tradition of all of them. I want more of that not less, while modernizing into a play off system.

The problem is that bowl atmosphere is quite different from a playoff game that has to be won to advance.  In bowls, there is no real pressure to win or lose, unless it has to do with final rankings.  But all of that goes away with the playoffs, rankings don't mean as much.

The bowls were used to throwing these week-long parties for both teams.   But that is much harder to do when so much is on the line, and coaches don't want distractions.   I at first was a big proponent of rolling in the bowls into the playoffs, but didn't figure this angle.

I'm now behind the highest seeded team be home host.

I wanted Texas to win every bowl we played in, especially the NY6 ones, personally.

probably one of the better Qbs Texas played this season. Finished 10th in QBR overall this season. He is missing his best WR. I dont think those numbers will translate vs Texas, but he is definitely a solid QB.

And a mobile qb who can make things happen when the play breaks down…. Which we haven’t really faced this year until last weekend?

CK last weekend is probably the most dual threat qb we have faced all year to this point, no?

So glad we have players like Ant Hill who can spy on him and slam him into next week if he tries to take off or run the draw.

The defense should bounce back. Leavitt is mobile, but not in Jalen Milroe way. ASU runs the ball around 60% of the time. This is run first team. If the defense holds the ASU run game below 4 yards a carry. This should be a relaxing watch.

We also have a player like Manny M who seemingly suffered some kind of serious head injury last week.

Don’t worry. The optimism you think you’re reading is just a cover for knowing that Skatebrah is an atomic powered super man that will run over and through us

Texas is a 14 pt favorite. Tune into the next game and you will see proper worry and angst.

Arizona is really small up front. They are going to slant and try to mess up the run. Texas gets a body on a body,  the run game should work very well.

ASU is 87th in the country in sacks. They dont get pressure.

Back in isnt bad. Xavian Alford is very good (name should be familiar). Shamari Simmons is out for the first half due to targeting. He is solid NB.

ASU is 101st in the nation at opponent 3rd down conversions. Big reason for that is they dont trust their CBs. They tend to play off and allow throws in front of them, which plays to Quinn's strengths.Maybe they change things up, we will see

Is there consensus yet on the board as to the correct way to tackle Skattebo?  We still have six days to figure it out, if not.

Nuke from orbit.  It's the only way to be sure.
