Found this twat sitting in my porch early this morning in Houston. I relocated him to Terry Hershey Park. Dude was a lot more spry than I would have thought for a coral snake. He got really agitated.

So public service announcement for the snake curious. Three years ago I got tired of being afraid of snakes and never knowing the species. So I started following snake threads on Facebook and after a few years I can now tell with about a 90% accuracy the species of any given snake. It has not only made me more comfortable around snakes, it’s made me more useful with friends, neighbors and family whenever there is a snake situation. I highly recommend getting educated.

Some yada yada’s just mean more. Example: this type of non-venomous snake eats pests.

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

It's funny. I grew up in the woods of NE Texas where we had lots of copperheads and cottonmouths - but also a lot of king snakes. I got real good at discerning a cottonmouth from a king, but whenever I'd go to our ranch in Jack County, I just blindly assumed every watersnek that looked remotely like a cottonmouth was food for my shotgun. It took this thread over the years as an adult to teach me otherwise.

That being said I've never been afraid of snakes even as a kid. If I saw a venomous one I would just take a breath and back away. If it wasn't venomous I might pick it up and go scare my sisters with it. Now spiders.... fuck spiders. I will blowtorch the building.

I try not to wish death on anyone (well, except persons driving slow in the #1 lane, but I'm sure you join me in finding that kind of shit simply cannot be tolerated in civilized society) . . . but my attitude is that if this clown happens to die from his snake bite, he goddam well deserves it and there won't be any lamentation from me.  Assholes like this who not only put themselves but also their neighbors at risk by illegally harboring exceedingly poisonous sneks are selfish, unthinking bastards.  If I were a neighbor, I'd be burning the house to the ground in case the authorities happened to overlook any other taipans or cobras or fer-de-lances, etc. that this maniac happened to be harboring at the time he fucked around and found out.

Holy shit. Fuck that guy.

Doesn’t require a license to own in SC. Wow.

I read in another article that (1) this dumbass is a high school teacher (!); and (2) he free-handles his sneks (including the venomous ones like the inland taipan), i.e., he doesn't use gloves.  Kinda reminds me of the idiots who make "serpent handling" a religious event.

Annual Florida python roundup results in removal of 195 such sneks.  I'm sure that's barely a dent in the population.

Grand prize winner got $10K for capturing 20 of 'em.  In the words of the immortal Jeff Spicoli, righteous bucks.

Pretty sure we rented “Florida Python Roundup” one time at Pleasureland. The gals on the video cover looked pretty hot.

this is interesting:

It also served to raise awareness about the dangers of Burmese pythons, like how they have high mercury levels that are dangerous for human consumption.

Assuming the carcasses are properly disposed of, the snakes' removal can reduce mercury levels in the environment.

Yeah, I saw that as well -- it was something I did not know.  Those effing pythons can kill you in more ways than one.

https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/huge-python-grabs-thai-woman-kitchen-squeezes-hours-113835105

BANGKOK -- A 64-year-old woman was preparing to do her evening dishes at her home outside Bangkok when she felt a sharp pain in her thigh and looked down to see a huge python taking hold of her.

“I was about to scoop some water and when I sat down it bit me immediately,” Arom Arunroj told Thailand's Thairath newspaper. “When I looked I saw the snake wrapping around me.”

The four-to-five-meter-long (13-to-16-foot-long) python coiled itself around her torso, squeezing her down to the floor of her kitchen.

“I grabbed it by the head, but it wouldn't release me,” she said. “It only tightened.”

Pythons are non-venomous constrictors, which kill their prey by gradually squeezing the breath out of it.

Propped up against her kitchen door, she cried for help but it wasn't until a neighbor happened to be walking by about an hour and a half later and heard her screams that authorities were called.

Responding police officer Anusorn Wongmalee told The Associated Press on Thursday that when he arrived the woman was still leaning against her door, looking exhausted and pale, with the snake coiled around her.

Police and animal control officers used a crowbar to hit the snake on the head until it released its grip and slithered away before it could be captured.

In all, Arom spent about two hours on Tuesday night in the clutches of the python before being freed.

She was treated for several bites but appeared to be otherwise unharmed in videos of her talking to Thai media shortly after the incident.
