Twas' The Night Before Christmas and All About Surly

Is this going to be the late night Santa assembly and slow bourbon descent into madness thread or should I start anew one in a few hours?

This year’s torture is fairly low key vs. the titanic battle w the doll house of years past. Only some bicycles and other random large items for the 4 year old and some te h stuff for the oldest.

I still remember 12/24/13, building that damn play kitchen. Started at 10, and finished a 3, with several drinks and “she better play with this shit until she’s 15” along the way.

That fucking Melissa and Doug kitchen thankfully has been an exceptional hand-me-down to the youngest…

Had a a bourbon or three too many on that build… still not as traumatic as that god damn doll house.

Gotta work tonight. Might as well go in early.

I feel ya.  I'm married to a very hands-on Hospitalist / Medical Director.  This is our 14th Christmas together, and only the 5th one where she hasn't worked.  And only the 2nd one where we've forsaken all others (and travel) and just stayed home for us.  Kinda geeking out over that.

So...whether you are tending bar, tracking missles, dumping trash, arresting perps, or saving lives for evil dogshit healthcare institutions...good fuckin' on ya!

Merry Christmas!

12/24/81 … putting together three bicycles and a Barbie’s Dream House, including the pink corvette.  12 year old bottle of Dewar’s saved my sanity

Fucking bicycle has a thing on it that shoots his damn bubbles…. That has to be disabled to put in 3 AAA batteries (would be included but are dead)….

Problem solved, bourbon #3 poured…. Time to see how “helpful” Mrs Clause is feeling before I start on this softball hitting stand thing

I still remember putting together a round trampoline in ‘03-04 on Christmas Eve. Very cold that week for SW Louisiana. Started before dusk with the wife occupying the 3 and 4 year olds.

It wasn’t so bad, but the wife insisted on those trampoline safety poles/net, that kept the kiddos from flying off. That shit was a PITA, as dusk changed to dark and got even colder. I went to my golf bag and grabbed some wet weather gloves (pair), in order to still be able to hold nuts/bolts. Finished around midnight!

When Hurricane Rita came through LC in 2005, it picked up my trampoline and crushed it into a ball about a 1/3 of the original size, as well as banging it on the house multiple times. It was anchored to the ground in four places, as well as the net opening tied off to some landscaping timbers.

The damndest thing was I had a 12 x 20 workshop/shed, with a loft section, full of stuff, and just resting on concrete corners and cinder blocks less than 30’ away. The shed didn’t budge an inch, nor were one of the three windows broken!

Hook’em!!!

Still kickin around the ol homestead.

Got a brisket going, just threw together some tamale dressing and two jello salads.

You spelled shots wrong.

Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad to each and every one.  We have a small lunch today with the In-laws other than that just me and the Mrs.  Peace and quiet, 2 of my favorite things.

Here is one of the UK's most popular Christmas songs from a very unlikely source.  Enjoy.

Yup, we got a solid 7 years out of it before gifting it to our friend. It was well built and I wouldn’t be surprised if some kid is still playing with it.
