Phil Collins: Drummer First

Have you ever watched something and then wished that you hadn't.

Everybody gets old and everyone dies, but it's sad and depressing to see people that shaped my world get to the end of the road.   I caught a 10 minutes segment of this where they set up his old kit and he got behind it for the first time in years. He was so frail that he could only pick up one stick and lightly tap a few drums.  He'e only 73. On one hand he shouldn't look that old, on the other hand, that's what a lot of 73 year olds look like.

Same it’s kind of sad. I don’t know much about him as a person although apparently he’s got a reputation. But 80s Phil Collins was the soundtrack of my youth.

It turns out he's a huge collector of Alamo artifacts, and he's donated quite a bit of it to the state.

You guys have me curious.  What's with all the Phil Collins hate.  Did I miss something or is my sarcasm meter off?

Only thing I remember was he did that song about homelessness, and then a bunch of homeless people parked in the yard of his mansion and he had to evict them. Which was a bad look, but what ya gonna do?

And he made Genesis from an arty band into something more popular. But again, is that bad?

And then he had a great solo career with the kind of hit parade most artists could only dream of.

Smells like jealousy more than anything. Dunno any other reasons, I've never been THAT interested.

There was that one time where someone was drowning and he wouldn't lend a had. That's a pretty dick move.

What's the Tommy Shaw reference about?

From HF's.  Someone had a story about taking a chic to a show and she went home with Tommy Shaw.  (Or something like that)

I was wondering if Phil "Shaw'd," Gil's date or something.

He believed he fought in the Battle of the Alamo for the good guys and was reincarnated according to a Texas Monthly article years ago.

He also replaced Peter Gabriel as a lead singer and could play the drums like a beast simultaneously and pull all kinds of hot ass in his prime.

But he was no Gil Bang, mind you
