Marantz, Denon, Yamaha. All good. Marantz tends to have a little warmer sound than the denon though similar. Don’t have experience with the Yamaha but they make good shit.

Marantz Cinema 50
Denon X-3800 both in that price range when on sale
Yeah, I have the Denon 3800.. would buy again.

My Yamaha receiver keeps flipping out. I need to replace it. I have an OLED LG TV, a DVD player, and a three speaker configuration with a subwoofer. I may add the surround sound speakers in the future. I’d like to stay under $1k if possible. Good voice sound is critical because we are hearing impaired. Any thoughts on the best receiver?

If you want to go the Sonos route they are having a sale on refurbished stuff. I recently made the switch and like it

FWIW- I have a Yamaha receiver paired with a Samsung TV.  The HDMI control On-Off (when I turn the TV/ DVR on using DirecTV remote) is flaky at best.  Sometimes the receiver fires up, and turns off when I tell it to, many times it doesn't.  Seems to be a common problem w/ Yamaha-Samsung.  Doesn't impact sound, just a pita to mess w/ using multiple remotes when it doesn't work.

Also have a Denon receiver paired with a Sony TV.  Work great together.  On/ Off/ Volume control all in sync.  Don't know how different brands play with the LG, but, I'd probably do some research, as different manufacturers seem to implement HDMI control in their own way.

Sonos is great, but, if you already have a decent avr/ speaker setup, you're probably not going to see a lot of improvement.  Though the surrounds are cool, and you don't have to worry about speaker wires, just power cords.

The problem I have is that when I change the hdmi port to the tv via tha Yamaha, sometimes it changes properly and sometimes it doesn’t. Drives me insane.

Marantz + Sony works great. I am able to use the Sony TV remote for all devices. Input switching, volume, pause/play/jump etc. Apple TV, PS5. One simple remote not designed for toddler hands.

I went ahead and took the plunge with a 4K blu-ray player. Got a Panasonic 420 since I don't have Dolby Vision on the projector. I debated a Sony model but heard they have a tendency to freeze up. Got a great deal with an open box unit from Best Buy. Bought some discs off Amazon since they had a 3 for $30 deal. Popped in 2001. It looks stunning. The HDR make it all pop. Watched the Dawn of Man and first space scene. I have Blade Runner coming in a few days.

I'm going to be more judicious on purchases or rebuys. The site rage gave me earlier does a great job with reviews. Wife and I watch a lot of Criterion movies and they're doing most of their releases in 4K now. I still have a spot about 15 minutes from me that rents 4K movies so I'll probably do that and not just buy everything unless it's a favorite or a rewatchable.

As good as the picture looks on the 4k DVD the real winner is the sound track. ALL streamed movies compress the audio tracks (streaming service or purchase/apple/amazon).

You get the extra 20% of sound from the discs. (And closer to 40% for the below 30Hz content)

Agreed. The whole reason I dipped back into physical media was watching Batman Begins with my older daughter on Max. It sounded so terrible. We could barely hear the dialogue. Then I remembered we had the blu-ray and it was night and day. I'm a huge nerd for The Rewatchables podcast and my oldest is really interested in movies I like. It got me back into thinking about movies I loved watching that she might like. We started out with some 70s classics like The Godfather 1 & 2. I told her my absolute favorite time frame for movies is the 90s. So we built a list of 90s essentials and started watching every Friday. Since blu-rays are so cheap, I would just collect them at Half Price Books. I'm saving Heat as our last rewatch.

I need assistance getting my Blue Ray working with the big screen.

1. I don't have the hand dexterity due to the wreck.

2. My kids nor wife know what to do.

3.  The HDMI Seems to be connected however it is obvious. not properly plugged in.

Start with the basics that hopefully the kids or wife can manage:

Make sure the HDMI cable is plugged completely in on both devices (it's a lousy design & they do come loose).

Make sure your TV is set to the correct input.

Probably better than a 99% chance it's one or the other.

HDMI cables can go bad.

IF the input and wires correct but no picture, make sure the picture output isn't on something like 480p etc.
This too. Did the Blu Ray player work before & has just recently stopped working? Are you getting any image or signal message on your TV when you try to use it?
