2 out of those 4 teams made it through to the semis. Interesting.

Good point other than getting the teams/order completely wrong.  It would have been Oregon, Georgia, Texas, Penn State

Georgia just wasn't that great this year.  They needed a bunch of SEC ref help, two turnovers, two missed field goals, and overtime to beat us.

I'm inclined to agree that ND likely beats them anyway with Beck.

Forget Beck. It was the loss of their punter that did them in, that dude could punt from the shadows of his own goalposts and pin you back to the 20. He was incredible. Losing him was the backbreaker.

2 loss Penn State that just lost in their title game was never going to get in over a 1 loss notre dame. The debate wouldve been who to take between Texas and PSU.

Your rankings are retarded and give two immediate rematches of the conference championships lol.

Maybe.  The UGA oline wasn't doing him many favors, and we have lost more than half of our front 7 to injury.

And the Rose and Sugar Bowls had the exact same matchups that they always would have, if we allow there is still a PAC.  Texas would host the Cotton Bowl as SWC champion assuming you beat SMU.

This year's ND team would fuck up those other three.

The 2012-2013 Notre Dame team won

at #10 Michigan State

#18 Michigan

whipped Miami's ass

#17 Stanford (who finished 7th in AP)

at #8 Oklahoma

among others

They didn't have the awesome NIU loss on their resume though so maybe you are on to something

And got absolutely demolished by Alabama.  A game that was over before the first quarter ended.

They also barely got by Purdue, Pitt and BYU.

That was a good ND team, this team is a lot better.

This team looks EXACTLY like those fucking teams.  If they face an offense that puts it on them they have no way to respond.  Unless you think they are going to repeat the magical 17 points in 45ish seconds bit against a team with a guy in his first college start outcome every week (which hey maybe that happens...but I wouldn't count on it).

Their defense will keep them in any game.  They have way more athletic ability and team speed than that 2012 team.  It's not even close.

No. He has to be set before another player moves, otherwise it is a shift and then all players have to stopped for a full second before the snap.

The first player was never in motion.  He broke the huddle and moved to his position.

Incorrect.  The TE moved from a wing position to the LOS.  An instant later, the WR started his motion.

Of all the egregious shit the officials miss in a game, I thought the call was fucking brutally petty, especially with regard to the outcome of the play.  I was left saying, " That's the violation you motherfuckers are getting down to brass tacks on, as if it was some CFL motion or some shit?"

SEC Final is fucking bizarre.

- Back and forth game.

- Stockton played a great game.

- Georgia didn’t do the little things.

- Georgia has found their QB for next year.

They're SEC homers through and through.  They sugar-coated Texas' performance in their show after our game.

Well you cannot be 'in motion' and moving towards the line of scrimmage, that's always an illegal motion flag.  It would be called on tight end Evans.  But the flag was called on the wide receiver.

I need to see a clip, I cannot find one.  Nonetheless I repeat that the refs were combing through the rulebook to find small violations, mostly against Notre Dame.

There are a few things going on in the play. First, the TE went in motion  from the backfield to the line of scrimmage pretty quickly after the initial shift of players. There needed to be a second stop before he went into motion, otherwise it is considered part of the shift. Second, right as the TE was finishing moving forward, the wide receiver went in motion. Third, the wide receiver never comes to a complete stop and may have been moving slightly forward at the snap (very slightly).

If the line wasn't set for a full second before the TE went into motion, the motion is considered part of the shift and then there needs to be a full second before the WR goes into motion otherwise that is also part of the shift and again the WR would need to be set a full second before the ball is snaped.  Illegal shift.

Even if the line was set for a full second (it wasn't), the WR and the TE are very close to moving at the same time, which would constitute a  second shift and again require the wide receiver to stop for a full second before the ball is snapped. Illegal shift.

And, if the WR were moving forward at the snap, everything else could be fine and it would still be an illegal shift.

The call was pretty ticky tacky because everything was right on the line of potentially being legal.

Rule 2, SECTION 22, Article 1: SHIFT
a. A shift is a simultaneous change of position or stance by two or more offensive players after the ball is ready for play before the snap for a scrimmage down (A.R. 7-1-3-I-II and A.R. 7-1-2-I-IV).
b.    The shift ends when all players have been motionless for one full second.
c.    The shift continues if one or more players are in motion before the end of the one second interval.

Rule 7, Section 1, Article 2: Shift and False Start
a. Shift. After a huddle (Rule 2-14) or shift (Rule 2-22-1) and before the snap, all Team A players must come to an absolute stop and remain stationary in their positions without movement of the feet, body, head or arms for at least one full second before the ball is snapped. (A.R. 7-1-2-I).

Rule 7, Section 1, Article 4: Offensive Team Requirements—At the Snap
b.    Man in Motion.
1.    One back may be in motion, but that back may not be moving toward their opponent’s goal line.
2.    The player who goes in motion may not start from the line of scrimmage unless they first become a back and come to a complete stop.
3.    A player in motion at the snap must have satisfied the one-second rule—i.e., that player may not start their motion before any shift has ended (Rule 2-22-1-c).

Here is a rule summary with video from the NFL addressing the same situation: https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/illegal-shift/

Quote

Rule Summary View Official Rule

SHIFTS

The offensive team is permitted to shift and have two or more players in motion multiple times before the snap. However, after the last shift, all players must come to a complete stop and be in a set position simultaneously for at least one full second.

If any eligible backfield player goes in motion (one at a time) after the last shift and comes to a complete stop, there is no requirement for a full second pause before a second player can legally go in motion.

However, if the first player has not come to a complete stop when the second player goes in motion, it is another shift and requires another simultaneous stop for at least one full second by all players.

It is also an illegal shift if a player under or behind center goes in motion and fails to come to a complete stop for at least one full second before a second player goes in motion.

Note: The offensive team must present a legal formation both before and after a shift.

Penalty: For an illegal shift: Loss of five yards.

Notre dame has 6 wins against ranked teams?!

Wow that is a lot! I can’t imagine anyone else has done that this year.

oh wait. We have.

We have beaten 6 ranked teams, but they became unranked because we beat them, so according to the hate-Texas-from-any-angles-media, we haven't beaten any ranked teams. See how that arbitrary hatred works?

Their definition of "beating ranked teams" doesn't include their rank while you played them.

They use the revisionist-history that if you beat 10 Top-10 teams in a row, and then whatever polls arbitrarily drop all those formerly Top-10 teams to being unranked, so that they can then use that as a statistical point to try to keep you out of the CFP, just like the hate-Texas-media banged the drums loudly about this year.

I still say that if we win the CFP this year, the Texas-media-hatred will descend to new lows, claiming that Texas' MNC is "meh" and it was because everybody we beat "sucked." FFS

Not true. You can't be in forward motion at the snap. You can move forward during motion and it happens all the time when changing formations.

Idk that it will descend to new lows but claiming it’s “meh" and it was because everybody we beat "sucked” won’t exactly be wrong. “Sucked” is too strong of a word but there just aren’t any truly dominant teams this year.

that said, you do enough in the regular season to unquestionably belong  in a 12 team playoff and then beat 4 top 13 ranked teams (per AP) in the span of one month, ain’t nobody going to be able to discount a championship by a team pulling that off.

I mean there will be mouth breathers that will try but anyone paying attention to that, is a mouth breather themself.

There are several national championships I find questionable. There are a few I find highly questionable. BYU's national championship being towards the top of the list.

They still count.

The President, Congress, the Supreme Court, the United Nations, the alien race from the nearest settled star could all come together to poo poo Texas winning a national championship this year as not being all that impressive and I will give no fucks whatsoever. There's no asterisk for this shit. Why anyone would waste a second thinking about it is beyond me.

Now, retrospective national championships granted by obscure publications reading through box scores can fuck right off. Those are the ridiculous ones.

Just like aggy beating Mizzou early in the year. They had a lot of hype coming into this season and they touted that as a big win. Except Mizzou ended up being dogshit this year.

On the contrary, we beat Michigan very handily early in the year. People wrote it off as a low quality win because they were in a transitional year across the board. True, but they weren't as close to dogshit as Mizzou. They dominated Ohio State and beat Bama to end their season.

Vanderbilt beat Bama. We beat em. Florida beat Ole Miss. We beat them. Arkansas beat Tennessee. We beat them. Michigan beat Ohio State. We beat them. Oklahoma dominated Bama, beat em.

We always heard the SEC was the biggest grind in football. Every week is tough. But we rolled through it all except Georgia and now all of a sudden it's weak?

Yes, don't you see them working?

Now they say the SEC is "weak" only because TEXAS is the last team standing from the SEC. It's more of their confirmation-bias Horseshit.

I don't think the TE was ever in motion, he was still going to his position from breaking the huddle.  This man seems to think if they meant that the TE wasn't set before the WR started his motion then it is a different call.

From the broadcast it was implied that they thought the TE went in motion and needed to stop before any motion.
