I’d say since 1988 when they beat WVU for the national title. In 1993 they beat #1 FSU and then the next week lost to BC and then beat A&M in their bowl game to finish #2, behind FSU. Still, don’t think they officially claim 1993.

They still haven't won the national title this year.

We’ll just agree to disagree.

No one's arguing that '93 FSU was a bigger win than '88 WVU.  And I must admit '88 is getting back to the days before I was even paying attention to college football.  We're saying that the win today isn't bigger than '93 FSU.

Well, yeah. I didn’t say they have. I just said that this win gives them a shot. The win against FSU amounted, in the end, to nothing. This win tonight gives them a chance to win a title. I don’t want them to win one but, they have a shot.

They are fucking legit.

Been trying to tell y'all for weeks.

Georgia won the SEC title game but we won the war by destroying their QB and punter. Stockton was ass.

We better whip their ass next year with a real QB if they're still trotting out that guy.

Yeah that’s why I was saying it early in the game. It took a while for ND to finally just accept it

Back then we expected Saint Lou Holtz to win a NYD bowl and be disappointed about one early loss keeping us out of the national title.  At the ND gamewatch, half the crowd did not remember winning a major bowl and the other half had not been born yet.

And again, we’ll agree to disagree because this win keeps them alive for a national title. The FSU win, ultimately, amounted to nothing more than a big win. That’s all. I just think because of that this win is bigger than 1993. That’s all.

I get what you guys are saying but, in terms of wins that resulted in a national championship the WVU win gave them one. And this win today gives them a shot.

I’m not an ND fan by any stretch and in 1988 we damn near beat them but, fucked it up, like we always do. I still think the game with WVU is a bigger victory than the win over FSU.

We’ll just agree to disagree.

I don't think you're understanding what I was saying. This is their biggest win since 1993. That is a true statement. That isn't saying that this is a bigger win than 1993, but that it's their biggest bowl win since then.

I still can’t believe we had a lead at halftime and lost to their backup QB, knocked their punter out and then never made them punt again.

We didn’t practice to defend their backup. He plays completely different style than Beck. Their odds to win went way up when Beck went out.

ND got to gameplan for this kid.

The campus atmosphere for FSU in 1993 has really only happened once since, SC in 2005.

At my gamewatch the fight song was interrupted by the Utes chanting Beat Penn State.  There was no chant for BC following the 93 swat down of Charlie Ward's last pass, but maybe there should have been.

Two years in a row that Georgia has missed out on the semifinals

Top teams seem to be closer together in strength than before.  I think 2022, UGA would have missed again had Ohio State gone for it on 4th down and ran out the clock.  We kinda sorta did that with the pseudo punt malarchy.

Purdue scored 7.  Shit, Hudson card threw a TD against UND.

That said, UND was up 49-0, so the circumstances were a bit different :)

I thought the Kirby hate on this board was just rivalrous banter, if not sour grapes.

Tonight he actually made me happy Notre Dame was crushing his dreams.

Shut the living fuck up towards the officials, and fucking coach, you soulless fuck.

Why, because they would've left the SEC champion out if they'd known about the injury?

Does this guy not know the playoff expanded?

Weird comment.

ND would have fucked on Beck just as well.

Georgia deserved their spot and they got beat by a better team.

So glad the playoffs are here as well as NIL. The SEC is no longer going to be able to manipulate themselves into championship games without earning it and just claiming they are the best conference ever. In years past, none of these teams in the semifinals even make it and we get the usual SEC bias lovefest. Expanding the field is the best thing to happen. Settle this on the field, not by old geezers in a conference ballroom.

Georgia just wasn't that great this year.  They needed a bunch of SEC ref help, two turnovers, two missed field goals, and overtime to beat us.

I'm inclined to agree that ND likely beats them anyway with Beck.

This is first time that Georgia has lost its final game of the season since the loss to Texas in the 2018 Sugar Bowl.

Georgia call in guy dropping knowledge and Texas gets more recognition.

Sometimes a team just matches up well with you.

Russillo kind of called it after our first game against Georgia when everyone thought we were the best team in the country.

Down to the Final Four and one of us is still playing and one of us isn't.

The final field in last year's format wouldve been:

1. Oregon

2. Georgia

3. Notre Dame

4. Texas

2 out of those 4 teams made it through to the semis. Interesting.
